We've had a tough week this week with Anna working nights and Andy still not in school and starting to have problems with the care agency he's been working with. Thankfully we managed to find a few things to keep him amused, but we can't have too many more weeks like this one - and thankfully we won't have to!

ABOUT KEVIN CHAPMAN
I'm a 38 year old KZbinr from the UK. I've got a cracking beard and I'm currently going through the autism diagnosis process. I started this channel back in 2017 and by the time I left my full-time job as a Computer Science teacher in July of that year, my partner Anna was trapped in our house by our son Andy, who is autistic and had refused to go to school for 18 months. Our daughters Lucy and Amy and our dog Dave hardly saw me because I was always working to try and solve all our problems! Today I'm a full-time content creator and always at home when the kids get home from school (all our kids!) and Anna has been able to return to university. This channel is the story of my ongoing journey! Previously known as lollujo Vlogs and The Chapman Family.

Our carers left one by one too. When the last one left, they said they had no one available at the time and would have to hire someone. I basically said don't bother, I'll do it myself. So now, I am his paid caregiver. Afterall, I am more reliable and always on time....lol. Can't wait to hear of the new changes.

Look into Direct payments, you can then employ your own carers directly and ensure they are people that are going to be reliable.

The stuff you had to explain to the new carer I recommend you write down. A great tool for getting to know people with SEND is a "Passport" that explains the key things someone caring for them needs to know. Whilst care agencies should have a care plan for each client that anyone working with them should read, it's often better coming from the person who knows them best and by you giving it to them it gives them the option to ask questions. If you google SEN or Autism Passport some templates may come up.

sounds like the care company we had, my son bonded with two carers and everything was going well until last week we got a call to say that his carers have left, and the care agency are now sending workers that are not trained in challenging behaviour and they havent even turned up a few times

I hope that things go back to the way it was when the Care Agency First Started to come and that Andy can get back to His Happy Place with those Three Carers and the Routine they Started to Establish. Indeed, it is Important for People with Autism to have the Same Carers so they can get used to them. I am Glad that Andy got on Well with the brand New Carer they sent. Yes, there are a lot of Instructions that Need to be Given when it comes to Caring for someone with Severe Autism. I hope Andy likes His New School :) Yes, Andy is going to be Tired after School. I am Pleased that all the Carers that Andy has had so far have been Great! It is a Shame that People are getting paid such small Wages for doing such an Incredible, Important, and Challenging Job!
