I appreciate that you let him back in even after he aged out and don't get paid to take care of him. You care about him as a person and not just a job. That means a lot to a person to have a stable family to rely on or stable friends to depend on. When you have lifelong relationships, you have someone there for you when you need them too.

Sometimes I think older teens and young adults are more in need of parental care and love than younger kids. At that age, they are physically and legally able to navigate the world as adults. But, as those of us who are parents know very well, mentally and emotionally most of them are not ready to be fully on their own. They are more at risk of making bad decisions and suffering the consequences. Bravo to Peter for recognizing this.

Its so common for kids to turn 18 and leave home, either by choice or by being told to leave, most aren't ready and they struggle, and fail....and there are a lot of parents out there who don't care, they're just happy to get the kid out of the house, and don't want them to come back, so the kid struggles, fails, ends up on the streets, and doesn't have any sort of support from anybody. Once the kid no longer is a means of a tax break for the parent, the parents don't want them anymore....just because they turn 18 and graduate high school doesn't mean they're ready for the world....and that is the parent's fault for not guiding them and helping them along the way to be more prepared. I've helped a lot of kids over the years, a few of them still come by occasionally, some of them come "home" when things go wrong, and they know they're always welcome at my house, and they know I'll always help them....they ain't even my kids, its just their parents don't care enough about them to be there to support them when things aren't going well....the kids know they've got a place to go, and someone who cares about them, that's the biggest thing....sure you encourage them to go out on their own and start their own lives, but you always make sure they know they can come home if things aren't working out.

This is such an important time in a young person's life.. it's the lift off stage to adulthood and a decent life. Glad you're there for this young man. He'll remember this his entire life. Just the way you do Peter when you were so young and the help you received. I hope one day we can meet your life changing Angel you speak of often. I hope he's doing well.. 🙏

I grew up, and aged out of foster care. My last foster home, I aged out when I turned 19 because as long as I was legally 18. The minute I was 19, I was homeless. Fortunately, I had friends who let me stay until I had enough money to rent an apartment. Thank you for understanding, & helping foster kids get on their feet.💙

You are the real example of a father. One who gives an identity, a safe place with no condemnation, just a launch pad from which to go into the world. Zay knows he can come back and is accepted and loved because he belongs. The family is together once again and in many ways because you chose to be a father.

You definitely want to help them learn those basic life skills. In this case Zay needs to save some money as well, so maybe have him pay for his phone and once he has a job have him chip in a bit for groceries and utilities. Then when he's ready to get his own place he'll have a little credit history and can show that he can be responsible.

@@angelasobmer7026 Angela are you crying cause Zay is coming back. It is exciting! People always turn back to their roots, and where they know they are loved! I hope him, and Maddie see each other asp, and she moves there too. Then they live happily ever after. They make a great couple.

Sir,you are so understanding of the idea that just because kids turn 18 doesn’t necessarily mean they are ready to just be cut loose. Family is so important and to let them know you are still there to guide them and love them. Forever family, right!? You want them to know you will be there for them when they get married and or have children.

Thank you for still consider him as a son and let him come back. The state really short changes these kids. And I think the legal age for these kids in foster care should be 21.

Peter, you are such a dear man for making the sacrifices necessary to foster /adopt these children! Is Zay biologically related to Luke & Bella? They look like they might be. God’s blessings upon you all!!

It shows you who is really in it for love! Kids are not adult at 18! (Even with parents) Although they think they are! They need family to negotiate the transition into adulthood!

🌍✌️You're my favorite Dad, fatherhood is just as hard as motherhood. You're doing great. I call teens that are becoming adults pre-adults because they're still learning about the real world and how much responsibility they will have when they're on their own. So I love you for having a good mind and heart to love more than just yourself 💖 We need more men like you in this world.
