Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🤩 Yes 🙌 It's an amazing experience to read about history, especially first hand accounts after using the original uniforms, equipment and weapons, living as they did, eating the same type of rations and having a build like this under the belt. One can relate so much more to the soldiers practical situation (except the war part of course)!
@jastrapper1902 ай бұрын
@@ww2historyandreenacting I was a Marine Infantryman. I did 22 months (almost two years of my life in combat). The “war” part of war… the part everyone imagines in their mind… is a tiny percentage of the total time and what you actually do “day to day”. The bulk is doing exactly the type of tasks you undertook. Digging, hauling, cleaning, waiting, dealing with severe weather, cooking, etc.
@ww2historyandreenacting2 ай бұрын
@@jastrapper190 Thank you for your service!👍 Yes, exactly - thank you for this comment! The majority of "war" is generally as you say waiting - but of course we all get to go home at the end of the day, and we don't have to worry about bombings back home etc. But as you say, we get to experience the "soldiering" first hand (to a degree) with the issued equipment of the time period 😊I'm still in the army, never served overseas or combat, but to most of boys/men soldering is "fun", although it sure sucks at times, but that is also fun in a way. Most people probably think we are stupid for playing at "war". Playing war games is good fun, and great for the body and mind, while at the same time we get to learn about and experience military history first hand. Nothing is better than doing something one is passionate about (Military history) together with good friends, experiencing the good military bond and comradery and likeminded history lovers, but we also get to go home to our families at the end of the day. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching my videos! 😊 Best regards from Norway! 😊

Congratulations, exploring the field fortification and bunker construction is always very interesting. As example, I live in the region where from 1944.-45. was so called Kurland pocket and there are many areas with bunkers that apart from the colllapsed roofs are intact thanks to the clay and high water level- thus preserving the wooden logs. Anyway- what I noticed was the difference in construction methods- where there was stationed Wehrmacht engineer (Pioniere) battalion- the bunkers where all constructed in the same manner and in such method to use as minimal amount of the wooden logs as possible, when compared with other areas.

@@ww2historyandreenacting Hi, greetings from Baltic! I can confirm- Norway is beautiful country, had been there on a trip, maybe even too much of splendid landscapes concentrated in borders of one state :D Thank You for the kind response- there is one video- with me actually filming the inside of a bunker- that still had a roof intact. Didn't find much in that particular bunker though- couple of F1 handgrenades, a bunker lamp made from artillery shell casing and glass vials- that were similar to those used by soviets with water purification pills. I have filmed a lot of videos and upload them as raw footage- but haven't had time and will to edit them- like blurring out the face, since my comrade is still serving in active duty. And there are still many left in my personnal archive- but the idea of editing them- makes me appreciate Your channel and Your dedication and work behind them. Respect!

Is this not just a wood cabin? What about this makes it a fighting position worthy of a machine gun emplacement? Beautiful job though man looks amazing.
@ww2historyandreenacting2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! 😊😊 Valid question! 👍 This particular construction is not supposed to be under ground, but was a special type used in marsh lands or areas with shallow bedrock - typical for Finland etc. It is supposed to have a double layered thick log wall with a ca. 80 cm gap in between filled with rocks and sand - making the walls about 1 - 1.5 meters thick. As you can probably tell we only have this double wall in the front (machine gun port wall) with "fake" side walls - this was done in order to cut the material amount in half, so instead we have simulated These walls with adding fake end logs. This type of bunker also had at least 3 layers of logs on the roof + various other layers of rocks, sand, turf/moss. The bunker served both as quarters and fighting position for a Squad, with additional fighting positions and trenches systems surrounding it. A bunker of this caliber could withstand mortar and light artillery fire, as well as small arms fire. Hope this answers your question 😊 Best regards from Norway 🇧🇻😊
@ss_grenadier_yager17122 ай бұрын
We built a slightly smaller machine gun bunker and trench system, our bunker had a trapdoor and space to put a Lafette it also had a stove and 2 bunk beds. Unfortunately due to the land owner being uncooperative and making things awkward we decided to abandon the project altogether, perhaps one day we may revisit the project with a better site
@ww2historyandreenacting2 ай бұрын
That sounds really cool! 😎 Was the bunker under or above ground? Was it built based on original drawings - if so what type? To bad with the landowner 😵
@ss_grenadier_yager17122 ай бұрын
@ the bunker was set into the ground, where the trap door opened up the barrel of the MG would of been maybe a foot of the ground. As for original drawings I can’t remember if we used any most of what I remember was from original photographs from the eastern front
@ww2historyandreenacting2 ай бұрын
@@ss_grenadier_yager1712 Wow, sounds very cool! 😊 An MG low to the ground like that, especially positioned on the flank is deadly! Hopefully you can do something similar again on a different plot of land!

You did such a fine job here, at the end. How was this strong point staffed?? How was it supported in combat??
@ww2historyandreenacting2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! 😊😊😊 The SS-Schijäger-Bataillon "Norge", consisted of one Battalion with 3 companies - the Norwegian ski Battalion had no heavy weapon companies, bu they had one 81 mm mortar team and one sharpshooter in each company. Squad strengt was 8-12 men. This bunker would house one squad, and the squad would use the bunker as the main fighting position with additional shallow trenches and log reenforced fighting positions in close vicinity. In the case of the unit in this time frame the battalion was divided and tasked to occupy/secure to "hills" (heights) in close proximity to each other. The front line in Finland/Karelia was not your regular continues front line, but rather a line of outposts and strong points - so units we're in many cases "alone" in a sense. Hope this answered your question 😊😊
