Sunday Gravy, our ultimate comfort food! Our Grandma’s Italian Sunday gravy recipe was passed down to our mother, and now us, since we love to cook so much. Our Sunday sauce is made with beef Braciole, Mild Italian Sausage, Pork Ribs, and our homemade Meatballs inside. Braciole is a tenderized eye-round beef roll, seasoned with Italian spices, such as fresh garlic, parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper, and then tied up to keep in place. The braised meats add that traditional flavor to the Sunday sauce, that will melt in your mouth.
This delicious Italian feast is fit for a king! The process of putting together this Italian stable is well worth the time. You can use any type of pasta with this gravy, and it goes great with a nice salad and Italian bread.
Be sure to keep the family at bay while the sauce is cooking. The aroma will drive them crazy while waiting to eat!

I'm a black guy from Brooklyn who grew up with an Italian neighbor. She was like a mother to me. She's been gone now over 30' years and I still visit her grave at least six/seven times a year. (Her son, who is buried with her, became the adopted little brother that I never had, died on 911, while serving the NYC Fire Department). She made everything fresh. In fact she had family out in Stony Brook, Long Island who made their own pasta, which they called macaroni and noodles. Her Sunday gravy was the same method as your'e presenting. I assume they're very close recipes. She made the best food I've ever had and I've traveled the world. Gravy is all about the subtle seasons and the process. I have family in the south and I refuse to eat their "Italian" food because it has such little connection to the authenticity that you present.

I'm an Irish guy who grew up on a Steet that had 20 houses on it. 18 of them Italians. And as a kidI ate in each and everyone of them. but learned a lot from Old John Ippoliti, he made the Sunday Gravy. and it was the same ingredients as you made here. and he made his own pasta's. I used to help him make them. and Gnocchi's, and helped him crush grapes to make his wine. each year. he was like my own Grandfather. God I miss him gone since 76. but still missed. God Speed John!

I went to Syracuse University back in the day and for a WASP kid from Colorado, all the local Italian families (mostly of Sicilian descent) and their Sunday dinners were a revelation. Spaghetti sauce was ‘gravy.’ Pasta was ‘macaroni.’ And the manicotti was the stuff of legend. Oh, and I still remember the clams casino. Great video. Thanks for letting us visit your kitchen!

This is pretty much how my nonna taught me to make gravy (Salsa alla Domenica) except we scoop the excess fat off the top while it simmers. Also, we'd use a pork butt or shoulder roast and cut slits in the meat and stuff slivers of garlic into the pork roast. Magnifico!

Buddy the Little…we put the egg in too. My aunt used put in some diced up salami and provolone too. She’d ask the deli to cut a couple of slices really thick and then dice them up. I loved it, but then I love salami and provolone ….God help me, that salami is so bad for you….lol! 🤣😂😅 Thanks for the great video! I’ve been making my gravy since I got married when I was 16. We won’t say how long we are married, okay? 🤫 Let’s just say a very long time. 🥰 But I love seeing how other people do it, especially when it’s a recipe handed down. I have 14 grandchildren,, only my oldest granddaughter wants to learn. She just gotta remember…ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGES!! By the way, we are from Brooklyn too…Greenpoint/Williamsburg area. I lived in the same apartment my whole life growing up. When I got married, we moved into the apartment right underneath my mother and father. My husband begged me to move to California, he was stationed there in the Navy. I right away Told him Don’t ever ask me to leave Brooklyn! And look at me now I’m in Florida and hate it. But honestly glad to be out of NY right now with all the crime. My husband said we will never move back again! It’s just my heart is still there! ❤️ You two brothers were great! Love watching you cook, plus you make me laugh! I’m very proud of you both too for making Nona’s Sunday gravy. I hope I get to carry the legacy of my Italian cooking. Everyone I know says it’s the best and now can’t eat other people who make it!! Lol…didn’t mean for that to happen!! 😱😕🤫🤭 Sorry this is so long. …I have a terrible habit of talking too much to people I like! Can’t seem to help it! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Ciao for now 🙋🏻‍♀️Theresa Candeloro

I made Sunday gravy this past weekend. I left out the onions and I used beef ribs instead of pork ribs, and I made some sweet Italian turkey sausage meatballs. I pounded out some beef round steaks and I swapped cranberries for raisins in the braciole, and I threw in sweet Italian pork sausage links for more flavor. I cooked it for four hours came out great. Everything fork tender. I got so much left over that I broke it down to containers and put it in the freezer. It was only three of us. But man, it was so good

I’m from Utica, NY. The braciole looked good, but nobody except people from jersey and Rochester call it gravy. It’s sauce and it will always be sauce.

Great show. New to your channel and grew up with Simonetti's across the bridge in NJ. We were like family most of our lives until many passed away. Gonna have to subscribe to your channel as it brings back fond memories of those wonderful Sunday smells throughout the house after spending a day at the track and Italian bakery (maybe a coupla pit stops in the garment industry).

Nice video. Just like my mom made gravy. Back in the day the entire neighborhood in South Philly smelled of gravy on Sunday mornings. My wife doesn't fry the meat. She gets the char on the meat in a 400F oven then puts it in the gravy to finish braising for hours. I can't detect any loss of flavor. Easier cleanup and no oil in gravy. She's been cooking it that way for 49 years so I'm not gonna upset the apple cart you know.

This looks great. My grandmother cooked a big pot of gravy just like this every sunday, rigatoni and all. She cooked for 15 people every weekend for us and our cousins. Only thing different is she used pork chops instead of ribs, but now that I see it I'm gonna have to try ribs sometimes, I bet all that extra fat makes the gravy real tasty.

Thanks Tim! We remember them days. On occasion, we use chops as well, but you have to try the ribs. They are real moist.
