Thanks for the tip Macky! I know tell everyone "Hey when you see a spot...I'm racing single speed...keep it up!" I did that at the checkout of my local supermarket the other day...and then in the parking lot...and then when I merged onto the highway. Can't thank you enough!

Great job at the race! Looking forward to seeing Macky defend his single speed title. Thanks for wearing the cameras and all the editing, so we can come along for the ride with you guys.

Macky's conditioning plus his pacing in the race (limited/assisted by his gear) made it so smooth to watch him zoom past the track and the competitors. And Syd did really well despite having minor technical difficulties/mistakes. I think once she gets back her prime condition and controls her breathing (nose) she will definitely place higher in the ranks. Awesome racing guys! Have fun and keep it up

Great video as always. Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm curious why, when you ask for a good place to pass someone, you added "I'm racing single speed." Does that give you more of a priority to pass for some reason? Why would the passee need to know whether you are on single or multi gears? Don't they just get over as soon as they can regardless?
@sydandmacky2 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily more priority, but in this case Macky started behind the pros, so when he was catching them, he had already made up a bit of time, and sometimes (not always) people will be slower with the pass if they know the person is in their category, because they think they will get back away on the next climb/descent/whatever. But if they know you have already caught up 2-5 min... Also, with SS it is harder to go slower up steep hills and most MTB racers understand that and are happy to get out of the way quickly to prevent the SSer from having to walk. Hope that makes sense!
@tmhudg2 жыл бұрын
@@sydandmacky yep, makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation!

Curious if either of you two have used the Superfuel since the filming of this? I picked some up to give it a go, since I normally enjoy Skratch products. It sounds like it should behave similar to Vitargo (which I have used), but wondering if you two have any experience now?

I (Macky) actually did use it for this race as I've used it in the past so I knew it would be okay for me. I like the stuff. Tastes good and gets lots of calories efficiently!

The difference in bike handling and descending for both of you compared to the field is kind of shocking. Is it just not worth it to train skills vs fitness for XC racing? I would say it's on my bucket list to get passed by Macky and hear the "thanks, keep it up" and say he's my cheerleader but who am I kidding I'd never ever be in front of you! As for Syd I'd like to think I'd have more self awareness than the guy in black who didn't think he was holding you up and barely able to stay on trail.
@sydandmacky2 жыл бұрын
We spent a lot of time working on our skills when we raced enduro and most XC racers don't prioritize skills work because fitness training is super time consuming and generally the more important, if you have to choose only one.
