This video is old, but it's nice to see a parent doing Abeka who doesn't have the fancy set up, as all of us are not able to do that. So, it's good to see that Abeka can be done in a regular house with regular amenities.

@myersfamilydiaries2 жыл бұрын
We used it for two years and then I did my own thing for two years - but next year I'm going back to it for my youngers. I have found I prefer it for grades 4 and under.

I keep all my Abeka books in several binders. Helps for when we are on the go by just grabbing what we need instead of one giant book or crate. All work just stays in the binders when they finish.

I am new to homeschooling, today is our first day. I was so scared to do this because I work full-time and learned others are doing this while working. I tried to find youtubers who work full-time outside of youtube. Anyways, how is it going with your homeschooling?

I used the same crate idea (with wheels) when I had aging parents. Many times we had to load the crates and go to grandparents house for the day to take care of them.

How does the steaming work? Is it live? We are considering homeschooling for the 2020/2021 school yr
@myersfamilydiaries4 жыл бұрын
You have two options: A. You can use their DVD set. B. You can watch online, but it's not live streaming. You can watch whenever you like!
@tatyanatsygankova96824 жыл бұрын
streaming is pretty much the same. it is not live, it is the same recording except you watch the video lessons at Abeka.com The main difference with streaming is you don't borrow those DVDs, so you don't need to return them back to Abeka.

Omg I love you! You are so cute! Thanks for the informative video. Can you do a video showing everything you get with the academy program? Is it a ton of stuff? Do you get flash cards, maps, and other fun tools?

I wanted to know what tips you can share on how to keep a hyper 5 year old engaged with the Abeka K5 Curriculum, I just started and I am very worried that my daughter will not stay engaged....
@myersfamilydiaries4 жыл бұрын
It can be hard to keep younger kids engaged - just make sure to give lots of breaks and show lots of grace to both of you. It might be that this isn't the right fit but you won't know until you try!

Great video! My husband and I adopted our grand daughter. She is currently 3years old. We have decided to home school. We are going with Abeka and would like to stick with it throughout her entire school career. I am terrified about grading subjective work in the future like book reports. ( Anything that does not have concrete answers). I have been hearing about this strange new math ( common core) where the answers aren’t really accurate. My state requires standardized testing and the state gets involved if your child tests below a certain level. I’m glad Abeka uses standard math, but I a afraid my child won’t know how to pass the standardized tests. Does anyone have input for me?
@myersfamilydiaries3 жыл бұрын
Ask your state which testing system they use. When you find out, you can grab a few workbooks online that are practice tests - that's what we did and everything went great!

Did you compare BJU Online/DVD vs. Abeka and if so what was the deciding factor? Trying to decide between the two it seems like the BJU videos are shorter since the teacher is teaching directly to the student instead of a classroom but I couldn't find any official info on Abeka time lengths for the separate subjects unless I missed it.
@myersfamilydiaries4 жыл бұрын
I didn't look much into BJU because I had some friends who know me WELL tell me I would like Abeka better. There IS a chart in the front of the teacher manual that tells the average times for each class. First grade: Bible - 30 minutes Seatwork - 5 minutes Reading Circle - 10 minutes Phonics/Language - 20 minutes Writing - 15 minutes Arithmetic - 40 minutes Spelling - 8 minutes Combination Practice - 8 minutes Activity Time - 20 minutes

I'm currently researching my options for homeschooling. Why do you prefer the streaming vs the DVDs?
@myersfamilydiaries4 жыл бұрын
I like being able to do school anywhere with wifi and not having to worry about DVDs.

Thanks for your video. Question, what would be the difference between the teacher manual and video manual? And I'm thinking you get both with the academy?

Can you children work independently? Do you have to complement the dvd lessons ?

The kids work independently sometimes, but know to ask for help. I'm also checking in with them quite often to make sure they're on track.

This was so helpful. Thank you. Do you have to keep all the papers that you grade? Or, do you go back and have to work on things with the papers? The paper and crates kind of confused me. Thank you!
