Re the roof on the heater enclosure. if there isn't a reason not too, it might be better to have it sloped away from the house, taking the water away from the building.

Great advice
@mkats51027 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same…however they don’t get much rain so it might not matter so much.
@LittleSpanishFarmstead7 ай бұрын
The reason was that then the front of the cabinet would have to be even bigger to accommodate the door, and then the whole thing becomes even bigger
@MauroGestoso7 ай бұрын
And we don't get much rain and we'll eventually have a roof over that whole area. It's fine, the wall can take some water.

An automatic heating cable can be used to stop water pipes from freezing. The cable is wrapped around the pipes and only uses power when the temperature dips to critical levels. It shuts off automatically, not very expensive, does not use a lot of power and will save having to buy water heaters. Should be available in your hardware stores.
@LittleSpanishFarmstead7 ай бұрын
Hmm interesting option!
@geertlapiere84657 ай бұрын
A very good option...... we've got a heater like yours inside the garage, and it froze anyway. Even when you let the water out, there is some membrane inside where the water can not be taken away. And as you know, a new heater is an expensive joke....😢😢😢

If Moses figures out how to open the tap even with the box, don’t be surprised. Maybe you could remove the lever and just put it on when you need it. That is not an uncommon thing to have to do around horses and donkeys. One day you might be able to install a solar powered water bubbler with an automatic shut off valve.
@LittleSpanishFarmstead7 ай бұрын

You've found a solution for the donkey tap now, but there are taps with removable handles, or others that require a screwdriver to open close. It's lovely that you don't have a boring corporate outro to your vids - keep it natural 👍😊

If you can find the time, I should try to turn the roof so that it slopes out as it could cause a damp patch and potentially cause mould .
@LittleSpanishFarmstead7 ай бұрын
As I said in the video, that whole area will have a roof so it won't be an issue. It looks better sloping backwards (in my opinion) and gives more space for the door without having to make the whole unit bigger.

If the donkey bothers your little box enclosure, you could try installing a post behind the fence to attach the tap, outside the fence where the donkey can't get at it. The water will project through the fence.

Temporary fix to keep water from freezing, use a scrap of the material you used on the IBC facing the sun. Just that bit of dark material should absorb warmth. Second choice is a couple of bricks with dark colour, either wrapped or painted placed beside the cabinet facing the sun, essentially a thermal mass. You've used far more tools than I have even with my greater number of years alive. Well done indeed! Mauro will enjoy warm showers and returning to work. Lovely jobs done on the cabinet and donkey barrier for the tap. Looking back, your skills have grown immensely. 👍🇨🇦
