I'm on my 12th Subie-got my first in 1973. I just love them for their reliability and ability to take me anywhere I want to go. With the advent of the Subaru Global Platform my only real complaints (noise and bumpy ride) have been completely addressed and I find myself preferring to drive my 2023 Outback Onyx XT (so a turbo model) over my other AWD vehicle, a 2015 BMW 4 series convertible-even in the summer.

Had a 2016 for 7 years and just got a 2024. It’s the perfect car for my wife and 2 dogs for the snow in Michigan and for biking, hiking, and swimming. These cars have got me thru some wild blizzards and tornadoes. Can’t recommend anything more for a safe and reliable car. (Wish I got the XT…)

As far as tires go, my wife never takes her Outback off road, so I had Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires installed on her Outback. They’re awesome in All driving conditions. We get 5-7 feet of snow up here in the mountains of north central Washington state. I just put on a set of Falken Wildpeak AT4Ws on my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road. A few hours after I had them installed, we got a snowstorm. I was super impressed with them.

@@Doc1855 Falkens have treated us very well. As of today we have them on all of our vehicles!
@Doc185511 күн бұрын
@ Yes, I heard that when you were talking about them. I took a hit with my mileage after going with the Falken only because it’s an inch taller and a lot heavier tire. But because of what I use my Tacoma for I need heavier duty tires.

Great video as always. Your tree hunting reminded me of myself and my young wife and 2 black labs out seeking a tree in the Washington woods - probably about 50 years ago. I have a 2020 Outback in Autumn Green that looks just like yours. Great car in limited traction situations and I can pretty much go wherever I want to go. If the power is an issue you might think about the turbo on your next Subie. Space wise - yeah - it's pretty small. I'm looking at the Tuhli Tepui Foothills Rooftop tent as my new stay in the woods lodging. It only takes 1/2 the width of the roof rack so I can still put my Kayak up there with it. In your situation, moving up to the Ascent probably makes a lot of sense. Happy trails Mate.

Falcon Wildpeak tires are 55 k warranty AND Most importantly 3 peaks mountain snowflake rated. People have to realize that tires like these are the key to stopping and turning safely and make a greater difference than awd or 4wd! Excellent Choice! I love my cross climate 2’s and our x ice on our vehicles.

I just purchased a used 2016 outback 2.5i partially based on your videos. It had only 1 owner who did a lot of highway miles and I guess the only thing he has had to replace was the windshield and seats (getting the leather re-done). I am now at almost 250K miles on it and it is serving me well! The only thing that really annoys me is the infotainment screen - but will be replacing it this week. I completely agree with you about the engine and it not being sporty - as well with the space. Great review guys! You guys are so cool!

I recommend getting a second used 6 cylinder Outback when you have a lot of gear; with two lightweight vehicles you have someone to tow you out and a second vehicle if you break down. I take my 2004 and my wife drives her 2016 when we go on adventures. I also have an F250 but like you said it's so much nicer driving a car.

Great video and enjoy the holidays! The K&N air filter has helped mine with throttle response and a Yakima Exo system has helped with storage. Also have a rack on top for bulky things which helps sometimes 😆

I bought a Certified Preowned '21 OB Limited with the XT Turbo. Get the turbo!, then you can have the people AND the gear. (just not too much gear!) I hear the next gen OB will be bigger too. Or get a Forester Winderness if they ever offer the turbo in it. Ascent is a good choice too.

We had to go to Seattle early this week. It’s quicker for us to go over Blewitt Pass (highway 97) into Cle Elum where we pick up I-90. Anyhow I was driving and we hit black ice. Our Outback momentarily started to slip. Before I could even respond, the computer took over and removed the power to the wheels with no grip and put it to the wheels with grip. It was so quick that my wife didn’t notice it. Coming home on I-90 going over Snowqualmie Pass my wife hit black ice. Our Outback began to slide and once again the computer took over and pulled us out of danger. I bought my wife her Outback for her 50th birthday in 21. I couldn’t find the color combo she wanted but I did find a 19 lease return with only 5,600 miles in Tacoma (3 hours away). I booked her 19 out and it was worth $38,802. I bought hers for $33K. It currently has only 40K miles and when it wears out she wants to replace it with another Outback.

@@Doc1855 wow! Glad the car helped prevent a wreck, that’s scary. Sometimes traction control is annoying in deep snow but when it comes to ice it’s hard to beat!
@Doc185511 күн бұрын
@ You can disengage your traction control in your Subie when going through deep snow. We’ve had to do this a few times in my wife’s Outback. Thankfully I’ve only had to put my Tacoma in CRAWL mode once to get out of a sticky spot

Cant go wrong with Subaru, i drive a 2019 outback touring. In the summer i load it with camping gear. Thinking about getting another one, either a forester or crosstrek. Forester has alot of room, crosstrek is more of an up and go type smaller vehicle.

I have 2 kids and my Outback has been awesome, I cross shopped the RAV4 and it was great but was less fun to drive, If i had to go bigger maybe a Highlander AWD? I love my Subaru though , It just drives solid. I got the base 2019 2.5 too and not the H6. Still a joy to drive and a great tourer for road trips. Im waiting to see how the new Outback pans out, Its supposed to be bigger..hmmm and a hybrid..which would be awesome

We have a 2018 Forester Premium that has just driven me bonkers with things going bad that shouldn't, at least so early. Front lower control arms, cracked exhaust manifold sent exhaust into the cabin, and of all things, a TPMS system that refuses to be reset, and, like you, have replaced the windscreen three times. I drove a 2025, and am considering it. But my desire to avoid repairs later has a Honda CR-V Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 hybrid being considered ahead of it.

@agpawpaw591210 күн бұрын
Outback is better for off road, but rav4 hybrid mpg almost twice better. It’s all depend where you driving and what you like. I love outdoors, but here in eastern PA, all forest roads good enough for Prius driving, it’s like mini wagon. I even been car camping, seats folding flat too, like in Outback. For one person it’s good enough. Rav4 seats not folding flat, but cargo is big
@minnybiker45057 күн бұрын
I've always been a Toyota person, but couldn't find that perfect size in the Toyota lineup. Outback fit me perfectly with a little more leg room. I just hope it stays reliable. 32k miles in just under 2 years, just some noise from the roof. Toyotas aren't rattle-proof, neither, so... Not a huge deal.

Why not keep and get a small trailer for toys when you need it?
@ChaseChristopher111 күн бұрын
@@aBluegrassPicker that’s a good option too. We currently have a little harbor freight trailer that works quite well for small things. The challenge with a trailer is that it is annoying to go down bumpy roads and also to quickly turn around on narrow back roads. It probably is the more efficient solution to the relatively infrequent problem though!
@agpawpaw59129 күн бұрын
Trailer is very good to bring some bigger stuff, but for traveling, or camping it’s better use Tacoma, it’s bigger, don’t have to deal with trailer and with trailer Outback will use same gas as Tacoma
