But if it was important or a priority I’m sure she would make Time For it . I think for Eric having a broken phone would be a priory same with my husband but I’d Cary around two phones for months also lol cuz I don’t care enough

Colleen, as a nanny I've dealt with a few working women who struggle with guilt for working and having a life outside of their children. It's totally normal and understandable, but I think it's important for you to also prioritize yourself, your desires and your goals while still having children, especially since you have found a nanny you love! I know the phone issue doesn't seem like a big deal, but you don't want small things to turn into more small things, which turn into bigger issues. Keep taking care of you so you can be the best mom for those adorable children. "You time" matters as well!

Agreed! As someone with a helicopter mom who was always around at home and never did anything for her because she was always in my space I definitely am working through a horrible attachment issue that I hate. Not to mention now that my sister and I are adults and I don’t live at home she’s said she doesn’t even know who she is now
@hahna77

@Taylor my daughter is engaged to a man with a mom just like that & he now has nothing to do with his mom because she was so controlling & intrusive in their relationship and every aspect of his life. And sadly he now has no relationship with his almost 20 year old sister, because they turned her against him & talked her into dropping out of college & moving back home & getting a job at the dad's office. They still control who she dates & where she's allowed to go. It's so sad. Children need their independence and a mother, not a martyr.

Even though my kids are grown, I understand not wanting to leave the kids and take that time to get your phone figured out. However, the stress and time devoted to being annoyed with the phone IS taking time away from the kids. Kids can also pick up on the stress you’re feeling. You will feel so much better after it’s taken care of. Alternatively, make an appointment at the phone place, find 2 small places to take the kids that are near the phone place. Have your parents or nanny with you. Your parents/nanny take the kids to place number one while you go to the phone place. When you are done, you’ll be in the same area as them and take them to a short activity, or to lunch, ice cream, etc…I’m thinking that they will be able to quickly solve your issue and then it will be over with. I love you, Colleen & Erik! Such a great podcast ❤️

Martyr. Your not fixing the phone because you need to do a craft, and be with your kids..you can’t stand the process and wouldn’t do it even if you had no kids. I. Can’t. Stand. When people gaslight and make excuses. Own it. It’s flat out something you detest doing and you are avoiding. I’m pretty sure you have even mentioned that you detest the Apple Store/fixing dealing with phones.. it’s not that you don’t have time because you are such a saint and would rather craft with your kids than handle your adult responsibilities.

The intrusive thoughts discussion in this reminds me soooo much of my harm OCD. My personal OCD thoughts include both the knife things and visualizing really awful things. I have ADHD and OCD, and I also have trichotillomania and other BFRB behaviors. These things are commonly comorbid and it can be really awful and disabling. I also hate silence, it makes my brain feel unbearably loud. Anyway, I really appreciate both of you sharing your experiences, it helps me to not feel so alone

@@sarahmccloy5536 That’s good! It took me a while to find my rhythm and not sacrifice myself in the journey of motherhood. I’m a mom of 7 and my children see my daily example (whether good or bad) of taking care of myself and making sure I’m healthy mentally and physically. There is time to take care of yourself and your children. Wake up before them, “close out” your kitchen before bed, put the phone down. Too much of our time can be spent on social media apps.

With meditation there are many many many methods. The most common is to have one point of focus. A tree. Your breathing. A sound. At some point in the meditation something called dhyana happens. This is when your efforts of concentrating on that thing drop entirely. Meditation becomes effortless and you are one with universal consciousness. It’s a beautiful feeling.

I have a problem with silence as well and I am also a massage therapist who also regularly gets massages, I usually try, if my client is regular to pick music or sounds they prefer! Partially because if they can’t relax with water sounds then why am I playing water sounds and also to find something loud enough to cover up involuntarily sounds. Because try as you might, if you’re massaging someone you’re likely to get winded or accidentally sighing or groaning from exertion! I also have air moving because if I’m hot and sweAting and a client is under a blanket with the heating pad on they probably will get warm too. I can definitely attest to as well as the actual massage can be, if you can’t clear your mind or at least be completely distracted in a good way by the atmosphere of the room then that lowers the quality of the experience!

c'mon Colleen - you dont have to bring child birth or pregnancy in everything, we women do rock for sure but i feel we as woman conquer the world while men does too - its us (hubby & wifey together to win the world, not by competing against each other).. Eric actually does a LOT MORE than any other man trust me!!! - plus it was suppose to be an entertaining conversation till you started a 'pissing competition' as eric said hehe.. Its never about winning who does more tasks. We hear all the time how much you do, how less you sleep etc but sometimes its good to hear Eric's side too, let him shine too hun without shooting it down always to compare your tasks :) -- I LOVE YOU BOTH, you guys are amazing parents and humanbeings

The more I learn about you, Colleen, the more I see we have in common. I get SO angry and frustrated at the littlest things…usually technology!

Take Eric and the kinds to the store and just do it this way. You can have some ice cream or something whiles they are fixing the issue with your phone.

Colleen, the tech thing is an ADHD thing. Just too much to figure out, too many steps. My mind goes blank at the instructions and even the quick rage. We like the older stuff because we know it. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn new stuff, just helps to understand why.

Colleen I feel like the best 'time' is when you're away from the kids inbetween of your work schedule and hotel destination. It sounds to me even when you're touring you don't have time to see the city but you have time to barely sleep I guess that's the time to use it for tech support for your devices... Maybe that would help with your glitching or technical issues when on air...

Colleen you are not alone on the tech thing, a knob is 100 times better!!! I never want a giant screen in the center of my car, while I’m driving turning a knob is way safer and easier.

I feel like me and Colleen are twins when it comes to intrusive thoughts and how we shudder at the visions! I quickly let those intrusive thoughts know they have no place in my brain to fester that negativity and I quickly go into my happy place !

Colleen, Your brain sees and hears your thoughts the way mine does. I also have ADD. A lot of people with ADD say this is how their brain works. I'm also shocked that there are people who don't see and hear everything they think about in their heads. That there are people who don't hear every word they read in their inner head voice and eventually the voices of the characters they create ads they read. People who can't make themselves picture images purposefully in their head even if they really try to. I see, hear, and feel everything. Sometimes, I can even smell or physically feel things I just imagine. The brain is so powerful.

Colleen those intrusive thoughts are postpartum anxiety. The excuses for not fixing her phone are ridiculous because the kids take naps which would not be taking time away from them but also she literally could just send Kory to do it while she hung out with the kids or did work.
