TINNITUS: I have to comment here. I am an audiologist. It is super normal to get a few seconds of ringing in your ears occasionally. Don’t freak out! It can be a sign of hearing loss but it can also mean nothing. As long as you don’t get other symptoms with it such as; ears clogged, ear pressure, hearing changes suddenly, then there is nothing to worry about it. Exposure to loud sudden sounds, loud sounds for extended periods of time, change in medication, diet, stress, certain health conditions etc can be a reason for tinnitus. It is not of concern if it is not constant and/ or suddenly frequently reoccurring. But yes! Ear protection is a fact! It will save you from having hearing loss caused by loud noise. It’s the only and easiest way to preserve your good hearing but it will not stop age related hearing loss. Oh!!! OMG do not put anything in your ears! You do not need to clean them out and no q tips ever! ❤ love you guys and this podcast!

As a hearing aid wearer I would say I have to go to the ENT once every 6 months or so to have them clean out the wax in my ears, but that’s common if you wear hearing aids. Same with my boys and my husband (also who wear hearing aids).

I’ve had tinnitus for at least the last 13-14 years now. If I remember correctly it came right after I came back down from Mont Blanc, when my ears started to get used to the normal pressure again, I started having it. Went to the doctor to investigate and after and MRI they found that I have a conflict between to 2 neurons that produces the constant ringing. By now I don’t even hear it much anymore, it’s just there. It’s sometimes very loud when it is very silent. And it indeed intensifies after being in loud environments. But for me it is not tied to hearing loss luckily.

The baking sheet situation... Erik.. I feel ya.. if there are a few crumbs, no big deal.. grease, on the other hand does need to be washed off but the way around this is to first put down foil that overhangs the sides and completely covers the cookie sheet, followed by a piece of parchment paper and generally, this will keep all offending grease off of the pan and you just wad the whole mess up and throw it away and put the cookie sheet up. Viola!

I wish there was a cure or a solution. Don’t worry, Erik. Anyway, I also wear jeans and bras a few times before washing them unless they get dirty/sweaty (obviously). I love Wetzel’s! Oh my gosh! Speaking of super powers, I think that Colleen would like teleportation or telekinesis. Teleportation because when she’s doing her tours, she can just pop from city to city without needing a tour bus and then no airport hassle. As well as if she forgets something at home. No problem, just teleport back. Telekinesis because if she sits down but forgets to grab her phone or food, etc., she simply brings it over with her mind. I personally would want teleportation. No more expensive planes tickets or waking up for early morning flights :)

I'm always anxious when I'm trying to fall asleep because I'm scared I won't be able to fall asleep and if I don't fall asleep I'll get more anxious and then I won't be able to breathe and I'll die. About the ringing in your ears that goes away: I have it, not often but I had it more than 5 times and I know exactly what you mean. Starts loud, high frequency, fades out, gone. My colleague told me once that this means that this exact frequency you are hearing is “dying” so you hear it for the last time. Could be completely wrong 😂 but every time I have it I go aaaawwww another one gone. And Tinnitus - a very different topic. I’ve had it stress related for around 1,5 months and it was horrible. Started with a deep drone sound, kind of like a vibration sound and even feeling, and after a month it switched to a high pitch sound which bothered me a lot less. Now it’s gone. I thought I was going insane.

@@shanzeyburki I think for me it was somehow stress related and it just slowly “faded” away. In the beginning I also had super sensitive hearing, like if a filter was missing. Everything was soooo loud so I wore earplugs a lot and I think grey noise helped. There are videos on KZbin for tinnitus relief with some tricks that might help - didn’t help for me though! But give it a try! Good luck, I’m sure it will go away 🫶🏻

First of all, I am obsessed with Erik’s dad and could listen to him talk forever! But also, I’m 31 years old and have had tinnitus first many many years. Probably since a teenager. I went to lots of small venue band shows as a teen and one in particular was EXTREMELY loud and I happened to be right next to the speaker. I’m guessing that’s where the tinnitus started. But I will say I only notice it when it’s dead silent. It rarely affects my quality of life. As long as I have a sound machine while I sleep I’m good. The only times it reeeeallly bothers me is if I’m in nature and trying to soak in something magnificent and the ringing ruins it. Maybe it’s worse for lots of other people but I wouldn’t be too afraid of it. Also I know exactly what you’re talking about with the random ringing because that happens to me too. I would love to know why that happens too.

The baking tray goes back unwashed if it’s just crumbs, but Colleen is right that even if you put something that leaks juices on foil, the juices still get onto the baking tray and bake on, then you need to wash, not put back dirty 🤢. I’m also a rarely wash the bra type girly. Not sure what my rationale is but for some reason my brain doesn’t think it gets dirty, kind of like not washing a belt (yep I know it’s touching skin). I work for Veterans Benefits Administration as a rater, tinnitus is one of the most commonly claimed issues with Veterans. Tinnitus can be caused by excessive noise exposure, however it can be intermittent due to things like infections in the ear. If you experience random ringing without any known cause, but it doesn’t last more than a few minutes you’re probably ok, likely due to virus or some sort of inflammation in your ear. If it is consistent, meaning continuous without a break for relief, over a long period of time, let’s say a weeks or longer, and you otherwise have no symptoms of illness, that’s when I would consider that persistant tinnitus, likely due to excessive exposure to loud noises, based on my experience as a rater that reviews dr notes daily. I hope that helps. I am not a dr but I work with drs daily that review Veterans with tinnitus.

I didn’t have ear infections as a child, never a head or neck injury, no loud noises that I can remember. No clue. I really only notice the noise at night when it's quiet. Only a few times after an illness it's gotten louder but thank goodness it was only temporary.

Hey guys ! The ear ringing thing doesn't necessarily mean that you have a serious condition like some types of tinnitus. I experience it from time to time and it is perfectly normal. It is called sudden brief unilateral/bilateral transient tinnitus. (one ear or two ears at the same time). It's more common to be only one ear at a time. It is pretty common and can be "worsen" by stress, caffeine, lack of sleep or other very common experiences. It should be cause for concern if it lasts for more than one minute and happens multiple times a day. Basically it's the human equivalent of "going off line" like for a moment your ear canal is randomly twitching and "recalibrating" itself ! Hope this helps! PS: I'm French so sorry for the language errors ^^

Ok I would absolutely freak out if you put this in an episode. I think it is a really good question. Ok, so I’ve always used the bottom drawer of the oven for pans, like you said. But I have seen people say it is used for keeping food warm after you make it 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ idk but I want to see what you and Erik think.

I'm in Texas and I, also, never stepped foot in our gym for any PE class. I chose band, and like choir and theater, it substituted for our PE credits.

The ringing in the ears is also common with seasonal allergies. It's caused by the fluid moving inside your ears and can also cause you to feel lightheaded. It's called a eustachian tube dysfunction and can be treated with nasal steroids and allergy meds like Zyrtec and Allegra.

Basically everyone gets ringing in their ears. We always say that someone was talking about you but not in a bad way. My family always tease each other about it. You are perfectly fine I promise. ❤

Where the heck did you get that swords from on the wall? Is it real? Would you use them as a weapon if a robber came in? Ps love your background. I always love to see all the interesting things.
