If you see a white sign with a black diagonal stripe it means National Speed Limit. Single lane is 60mph and dual carriageways and motorways is 70mph.

One thing I love about the UK & Europe really is the amount of history every wear and what's even better is that it is not screened off or anything but still performs a function and is used everyday. Hotels, pubs, even courts & prisons and so much more besides are often hundreds of years old. I would not say we take it for granted but seeing it every day does mean we don't give it much thought until we see it through someone else's eyes, which is why I love to watch videos like this. Thankyou for coming to our little island hope we took care of you properly. Blessings from Kent, England.

Thanks Jodi, nice tour (even in portrait - LOL!). By the way, it's York MINSTER (not Min 'i' ster) and comes from old English "mynster" - which means "monastery" - derived from the Latin "monasterium" and the Ancient Greek "μοναστήριον", meaning a group of clergy where the Brothers would 'cloister' themselves to meditate... 😀

Hey guys. Pleased you enjoyed my home city York. Jodi, not likely to be kidnapped in York at any hour! Interesting fact my nan was raised in a flat (apartment) above the shops in the shambles. There's a lot to do in York with the national railway museum (back of your hotel), jorvik centre, stonegate (original roman road), York minister, castle museum, yorkshire museum and of course the famous Betty's for afternoon tea. Oh and yes Jodi is supposedly known for ghosts being such an old place.

Glad I could have gone at 4 in the morning and would have been safe! Yes, lots of museums I didn’t get to! Next time for sure. So, the hotel is haunted?! I had a feeling. It is rather old. At least our room felt safe. Though, a cold ghostly draft would have been welcomed! 😂

Speed repeater signs.. If there are no streetlights and you are on a 2 way road then the max is 60mph unless you're towing. That is a blanket limit and if it changes then there ARE repeater signs to inform you of this (usually 40 mph). Where there ARE streetlights then its a blanket 30mph so no repeater signs needed. Quite often the limit raises to 40 mph and the WILL be repeater signs to inform you of this. If you see a round blue sign with a red border and red cross through it that means no parking ANYWHERE until you see the "Clearway ends" sign. No double yellow lines needed to spoil the areas.

Hey guys. So glad to see you enjoyed your time on our little island across the pond. Sorry to see Nick wasn't too well at 5he start of the trip but was hopeful able to enjoy some of his time here? When it comes to roundabouts, the important thing to remember is to signal correctly, so many who were born here still don't do it. Many if the beaches here can be of the stone variety but that's to preserve them. If those stones weren't there then they would very quickly be eroded away by the sea. There are some places, one of which close to where I live, that get eroded away more and more every year. Sadly though, there isn't much that can be done to stop it. It's wonderful to see people enjoying the many things I think we Brits take for granted. I guess when you live here and you see it every day, you kinda get used to it. As an artist, I still find many things beautiful and inspirational. I just wish to add, I didn't realise just how tiny Jodie is ( May have spelt that wrong, apologies if I did ), lol! 😂 Not a bad thing though as its kinda cute, lol! 😂 Still, you have a wonderful, bubbly personality which is always good. A wonderful video as always. Have a fantastic day, take care guys.

@jodip.6084 Bless. There's nothing wrong with being short, I know many females that are, lol! 😂 It's something I often joke with an American friend of mine as she's little, lol! 😂 The things I find though is that little females tend to have fire inside them, have a short fuse or just more aggressive ( Verbally), lol! 😂 I find I'm often rather protective of female friends that are short although I find many of them are quite capable of taking care of themselves, lol! 😂 I'm just careful of my ankles when around any as I don't want them biting them off ( Joking ), lol! 😂

Glad you made a feathered friend. We are so used to different levels of history everywhere we walk everyday, that us brits tend to just walk past it and ignore it. I’m glad you’re travelling by train, I think it’s the best and quickest way to travel in England, I commute most day’s to London. I have to admit I’ve never visited York, even though I’ve lived in England all my life. So much history. I just remembered I have visited when I was young at school. Your video of the river just brought back the memory. 😊 I should visit more places in my own country as an adult. I’m happy you’re enjoying yourself in the UK, I don’t know how far south you’re going on your tour but if you have the time visit Sussex, so much history and beautiful architecture. I was bought up there and miss living there. Just heard you was in Lincoln I live in Lincolnshire. Unfortunately you couldn’t go watch the cricket that’s a shame.. If you’re driving south, the South Downs is amazing you can really see the rolling hill’s all the way down to Brighton. Enjoy your time and hope the weather stay warm and sunny for you guy’s. You’re an amazing couple and you really are talking the right tour, great places to visit. 👍🏽 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Have fun.

So glad you got to see some of the Dorset countryside. I live in Weymouth and places like Chesil are something to behold. Not sure why you’d go to Sandsfoot Castle in particular though, there’s not much there. I’m only about a minute from there so maybe I just take it for granted. Glad you loved Corfe, it’s impressive on so many levels. That Island at the end of Chesil is where I grew up and where the stone came from to build half the great buildings of London. Portland stone built St Paul’s cathedral, the Bank of England, the Cenotaph and lots more. I think the UN building in New York is faced with Portland Stone. Anyway, happy you enjoyed England.

As you travelled extensively around Wessex you should try reading novels by Thomas Hardy. Start with “Tess of the D’urbervilles”, or “Far from the madding crowd” as you love Jane Austin you may like these. All Hardy’s books are set in the area you visited. Having said all that, Hardy’s books don’t always have Austin’s happy outcome.

Great you visited York, it’s a gorgeous city. I live in Lancaster, the Red Rose city to York’s White Rose. It’s a great place to live but smaller and not as well-preserved as York. Did you see the statue of Constantine outside York Minster? As in the Emperor who legalised Christianity in the Roman Empire. He was in York (then called Eboracum) when his father died and so he became Emperor. Like York, Lancaster has ancient roots in the Roman Empire and later the Viking period, as well as some pre-Roman Celtic shrines - very old indeed. Any town or city that has -caster or -chester in the name will have originally been a Roman settlement.

Americans do this, they have a holiday so rarely they try to cram way to much into it, over plan everything and run themselves ragged trying to do everything, that's no holiday it's a travel show application. You are ABSOLUTELY right about UK car rentals and their stupidly petty , labourious and time consuming processes . This is one area where the USA is way, way ,way better . I have hired many times from LAX and San Diego and you are choosing your car - and you choose your own vehicle and they scan the barcode or QR as you exit - within minutes and the return process is equally efficient. In UK they will spend an age checking with microscopic efficiency for the tiniest mark or scratch that they can charge you for on return. USA every time on this one !!!

Hired a car in Charleston SC. Took over half an hour even though I had an account with the firm, when everything else failed they got the instructions out seemed they had to change a prefix code that came up automatically.

It's the same in Australia they're so pedantic. A few years back the company I worked for at the time rented me one when I got stuck in a regional Queensland city and of course within an hour I hit a Kangaroo. I filled in the form then they came back with wanting a one page report on the accident complete with a sketch. Ever tried drawing a Kangaroo? Turns out I can't.

@@dinger40 Good win! I had a EL Fairmont for my first car, had quite a few Ks on it but as far as I was concerned it was a GTHO. The roo I smashed was in a Herz or Avis Rav4 between Cloncurry and Mount Isa. Made a hell of a mess of it. Limped it back to Isa with the dash lit up like an xmas tree.

Glad you came to Yorkshire and didn't just stay in London. Our county is beautiful and so many people who visit the country just don't bother with it, but there are so many places to visit within the county even I've not seen all of it and I've lived here the whole 20 years I've been alive. Also curious, did you guys rent an automatic car when you was here?

I worked in that York hotel in the mid-seventies. It used to be the Station Hotel. Did a four-week stint as a night porter between jobs. Met Mrs Thatcher's husband off a train one evening with the duty manager and escorted him to the hotel. His wife had arrived earlier, along with all the security people befitting a PM. Interestingly he travelled alone with just his briefcase and a small overnight bag.

That pic in the bookshop, I just realised how petite you are 😂 I didn't notice in the Scotland video lol. Glad that nick got better, You said he got medicine so you know the next question... how much would it have cost for over there lol. In Scotland it would be free but once you cross border you're into crippling medical debt of about 8 or 9 pounds 😂😂😂

It's a pity you passed through the best bit of England - Northumberland and Durham, between scotland and Yorkshire. You can stay in the Lumley Castle hotel (built in the 14th century) near Durham. if you pay a little bit more, you can get a certified haunted room.

Speed limits are quite straight forward in the UK. We essentially have 4 national speed limits and if you don't see any signs then it's one of those, which will depend on the type of road. Motorways are all 70 mpg. On all other roads, if there is street lighting then it's 30 mpg and if there is no street lighting then it's 60 mpg on a single carriageway and 70 mpg on a dual carriageway. When you see a speed limit sign it means that it's different from the national speed limit and then when you see a white circle with a black diagonal stripe it means that it has reverted back to the national speed limit. That's why you don't see many signs.
@johnburton4577
@johnburton4577 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Also if it's non-motorway roads, if it's a 40mph or 50mph road the signs will be repeated at regular intervals. That means if you're not seeing speed signs at regular intervals it's going to be either 30 or 60+ and it should be clear from the environment which is which (built up/residential or countryside/more open).
