I found your early foster care videos when I was considering getting licensed. We got licensed in Nov 2019 and took in a little boy who was 20 months. After a rollercoaster ride similar to your kids, we are officially adopting him in the next few months. This video made me cry tears of joy to see those happy faces. I am literally crying. This brought back the feelings my brother and I had when we were adopted by my Uncle Chaz and his "partner" ,now husband, Stevie ie: Dads n' Pops. In 1961 my Dads became our legal guardian and we were officially adopted in 1969. Remember this was when 2 gay men couldn't live openly, let alone adopt. Congratulations Family Mc Kay! Children are not part of my plan. However, I’m overjoyed to tears watching you add 3 McKays to your family. It such a gift to be a fly on the wall with your family. There are so many pluses to this that it boggles my mind to even write them all. The fact that you didn't rush into this, you questioned everything, as you should, and decided after much thought it was the right thing, means more then anything, I would only hope the Judge would see this video, and see that over time, the anguish of not having them was tormenting to you, and that shows that even in the beginning, you loved and cared about these children. After 3 years as a foster care Social Worker, I never even had gay parents never mind the opportunity to watch gay foster parents adopt kids. As a gay father myself I know exactly the joy you are feeling. I am of the generation when the only way a gay man could have children was to marry a woman. We had two natural children and fostered two more. When the kids reached 16-18 I found a man who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with and we separated. It was hurtful at first but eventually, we resolved things and continue today as best friends. The kids all grew up and married and have their own lives and dramas. One thing I did not expect was how kids never "leave" the nest but continue in your life and depend on you still in so many ways.
