Having grown up in Syracuse, NY, which is about 3 hours south of Ottawa, I can remember loving snow always but not the long winter nights, cold wind & gray skies. This looks like a great winter day. I would walk at midnight after a snow storm & it was so peaceful. I haven't been to Ottawa since 1986. A graceful capital city. Salue!

Welcome to you guys who just moved to Canada. Actually, we have more or less 5 months of colder weather. But it's the price to pay to not have snakes, tornadoes, lack of water, horrible heat. Canada is a beautiful and welcoming country and no, we are not racist at all. However, with the ISIS attacks, we are becoming a bit worried about muslims people. Just got our visa!!!! me and my family will be living in canada in a few months!!! i'm so excited!!! the only thing i'm concern about is the weather because here in the philippines the coldest here might be in 16 celsius!! (and for me that is freaking cold already) and it never snowed here and it's always hot! my aunt told me that (in where we'll move) it reaches -40!!!! anyways i'm still excited because me and my family will experience snow for the first time! and many say that canadians are nice people ☺️

ok here is some fact about how cold Canada really is during winter. ive heard alot of bullshit around and id like to make it clear. note that this is from some one who lived in Quebec city and Gatineau all his life. 1. A average day during winter will be around -15C and -20C. 2. What we consider a cold day will be around - 30C 3. And finaly what we consider a very cold day will be around - 40C ( we usualy have 2 week-end of those every winter) so there you have it, this should give you a general idea on how canadian winters are. some provinces are colder then other like Quebec, Winnipeg etc... and ofc its much colder in the north^^. pls not that here in canada it is mesured in celsius. not in Fahrenheit like the americans. it is very different and you should make the conversion if you dont know them. p.s: i am sorry for english im a french canadian =).

I live in Manitoba - The Prairies - Winnipeg aka "Winterpeg". It's not that bad. You get used to it. When I first moved here 20 years ago (from Quebec) I cried waiting for the bus and my tears felt like they might freeze. But it's become warmer, or I'v become used to it. Just dress for it and enjoy yourself!

we're moving in canada with my family in just a couple of months from now I think, we are just waiting for our permanent residence visa approval. Im so excited, for the winter, the snow, hihi because I'm in a tropical country right now. am very very excited to experience the winter! Update: June 5-2020 Right now I’ve been living here in Canada for 2 and a half years with my family, i believe I’ve adjusted quite fast as the years have gone by so quickly, I finished school last 2018 and now Im working in Accounting and Tax Office for 1 year and a half. It’s been quite a ride! I haven’t been in lots of places here in Canada as I was busy studying and working at the same time before.. Now I’m planning to have a vacation in the Philippines before this year ends.. hopefully everything will go back to places that time.. It’s always fun on winter time and I also look forward every spring for the trees and flowers to blossom, then summer and autumn when all leaves change into different colors and fall onto the ground.. 😊😊 Im sorry my update is quite long. Im just happy to share what have happened in the last 2 and half years living in canada 😊☺️

You know it's cold when the snow is thin and powdery like that. The cold air goes into your lungs and it can almost hurt to breathe when you first go outside. You can't have a snowball fight with this snow. When the weather is warmer the snow gets heavy and moist and packs together for snowballs. If it gets to cold it doesn't snow at all.

If you dress to look good, you are going to be cold ! You have to dress for warmth in a Canadian winter: lots of layers, good boots, hat, scarf, thermal gloves, big coat with a fur trimmed hood...think Eskimo ! You go outside in a suit when it's -25 C and you will quickly turn into a well-dressed Popsicle !

It feels WONDERFUL, like a big, soft bed ! Just don't fall asleep in it, or you might not wake up ! If you lie down and move your arms and legs up and down in the snow, it makes the shape of an angel ! Children call them "snow angels" Winter in Canada is a paradise for children !

himanshu naulay welcome, most workplaces expect you to come to work unless in extreme or dangerous circumstances. It also depends on the type of job you have. For schools and colleges/universities, you will probably get more calls or emails letting you know if classes are cancelled. always check your local news as well, so you can avoid inconvenient or dangerous situations. best of luck.

Melissa, 400,000 may be the average price for a house in big cities like Vancouver, or Toronto. You can buy a house in a mid-sized city, or smaller town for 150,000-200,000, and live a very comfortable life on a nurse's wages.

you will need a winter coat for walking around in. the majority of the time the snow will be cleared off the streets and sidewalks so you can wear just regular shoes. if it snows and you want to walk around outside in it though, you will need a pair of boots otherwise your shoes and feet will get wet and frozen.

i suggest waiting to buy anything until you actually get here and see what the weather is like anyways. you don't want to waste a bunch of money on a winter coat and boots and you get here and the weather is warm and there's no snow.
