That small alley at 4:11 is called the Zakkendragersstraat and translates to the sack carrier street. It leads away from the old harbor and was part of the route to transport cargo to the market place. Because it is so narrow it would be that in the morning it would be one way in the direction from the harbor to the market, and in the afternoon one way in the direction from the market to the ships.

I've been making (Calvé) PB sandwiches with (Koningsvogel) sambal badjak since the early 80's. Never, ever have I tried adding a fried egg on top though! Which will be the next order of business tomorrow 🤤

Oudste stad van het gewest Holland. De binnenstad is nog steeds erg mooi, maar er is wel een hoop gesloopt waaronder het oude postkantoor, waar een lelijk gebouw voor in de plaats kwam (de HEMA). Columnist in het AD Kees Thies heeft er veel over geschreven.

There are several shipping hubs around Dordrecht that are among the busiest in the Netherlands. Southwest of Dordrecht is the intersection of the Dordtse Kil with the Oude Maas. North of Dordrecht the intersection of the Noord, Beneden Merwede and Wantij with the Oude Maas, also called the three river point.

Seeing you both sitting there at the Merwede there, makes me think back a long long time ago, when I as a 4 year old kid found some coins on the street and decided to take my back then girlfriend (I started pretty young, I know) on the ferry to the other side (Zwijndrecht). However I stumbled near the river and fell into it. Luckily my girlfriend pointed at me, while looking at some people around and I was quickly saved from drowning. Wet and cold, an ambulance came and I was taken to hospital for a check up. All was good, but this memory stays with me forever. Yes, I am born in Dordrecht. 😂

Leük dat jullie Arnhem dit jaar gaan bezoeken. Sonsbeek park is mooi. 🌸🌳 Vooral op een zonnige dag bezoeken, dan is het zoveel mooier. In mei staan de Rhondondendrons in bloei. Er is een grote waterval waar je onder door kunt lopen. Het Openluchtmuseum is de moeite waard. De Eusebiuskerk heeft een lift, en dan kun je over de stad uitkijken. ❤

Let's start with the most important issue: Michelle, the hair is fabulous. Secondly we're so glad you have landed in that perfect place of not too big, not too small. Those Thai and Italian food options say a lot about the broad mix of shops and people in the area. Nice. And yeah, mind blown over that peanut butter / sambal / egg sandwich. Just as an FYI, 'cause I always seem to make about me 😁 the vegan dishes are great to see as I'm trying to be a better meatless cook and examples are so helpful. All The Way to 25, in '24!

Have you already discovered cafe the Hide Away in the center? A place where a lot of English people come together during sport events like football (soccer) or rugby. They even have Guinness on tap.

Dear couple. Although I live in Rotterdam, I like to take my bike on the waterbus and come to Dordrecht for some great food in a fabulous city. You'll have to try the poffertjes at Vissers at the Koemarkt. They are the best!

Dont know if you can get it over there, but you should try the Loempia speciaal. Its a big loempia with a slice of ham, a fried egg on top and peanutsauce (satésaus) I love them!

Growing up as a kid my father introduced me to jam and cheese sandwiches. I don't know if it's something dutch or well known, but i still love white bread with jam and cheese. I past it on a generation, my daughter loves them to. Hagelslag and peanutbutter is a weird but known combination to.

I love Piacere! Got my cousins hooked on them too haha. If you want a tasty vegetarian/vegan sandwich, try the verdure sandwich, it’s been my go to for a while. Other great Italian places in the center are Strada Del Vino & Otto e Mezzo. My favorite restaurant in Dordrecht has to be De Stroper though.

Great video, again. Do you use public transport a lot? I come from the (small) town Leerdam, the glass blowing city. Great experience to see how they do that. But just the trainride from Dordrecht to Geldermalsen is a beautiful ride, called the Merwede-Linge lijn. Might be something for your 2 Do list. By the way, if you guys love meat try the Argentina restaurant they have amazing spareribs, you can see it feom the glassblowing experience.

we use public transport all the time. we don’t drive and we don’t ride our bikes long distances! is geldermalsen worth a visit? we did take that line to get to gorinchem (it’s where we went to febo in our bram vs smullers vs febo video).

​@@buncharted Geldermalsen is mostly known for the bike routes around it, its a village with a lot of history of farming fruits, it has a big auction for apples and pears but is not open to public as far as i know. ( But i dont know very much about it, used to go to carpentry school there, and now once every few years i will go there for the Airsoft headquarters, but thats it) But inbetween Leerdam and Geldermalsen is a village called Beesd, with an Estate witch is open for public, a few shops, restaurants and a beautiful nature walk you can look it up. Especially around the time of blossem its amazing around there.

Great vibe. Curious about how you guys ended up in Dordrecht. I’m guessing you may have already covered this in a previous video. Most expat KZbinrs seem to be in the most famous cities of the countries that they are in: London, Paris, Berlin. Having said that, it’s wonderful to get your impressions of a typical Dutch city that I didn’t already know about (I’ve been to Amsterdam many times, den Haag and a few other places. My brother in law lives in Haarlem after having been in Delft for many years - and we have visited him in both places.) Viele Grüße aus Nürnberg.

I lived and worked in Dordrecht. Best Greek food to go is sold from De kleine Griek ( the little Greek) located on Vriesebrug. Best Greek meat sandwiches you'll ever eat! Love the vids! Greetings from the southern part of the Netherlands, limburg.

I've lived in Dordrecht for 62 years, 25 of which in the old city, but half the places you go to I don't recognize instantly. For instance that Daily Meel: I went to elementary school around the corner in the Hofstraat, but I didn't recognize the street now. About the paardenworst from butcher Verkerk: the widow has given the recipe to butcher Gelderblom in Sterrenburg mall, and he is selling the paardenworst again since last week. It is also my understanding that Britons and Americans usually don't eat horsemeat. Did you like the paardenworst? (I love it, I eat it every week).

we had it a few times from verkerk as a special treat. we definitely enjoyed it! it’s true that americans don’t eat horse meat though. we hadn’t had it before moving to the netherlands :). thanks for letting us know we can still get it! daily meel just opened a few months ago! it’s right across from pim’s (the pannenkoek shop).

Merwede is one of the few words where every e is pronounced in a different way. First one as in get, second like the a in date. and third one as in different. Stress is on first syllable.

The butchery Verkerk doesn't reopen. The owner died last year and his wife tried to continue but closed the shop because it was too much for her and there weren't any new buyers for the shop. But the butchery Gelderblom in the Sterrenburg mall got the recipe of the paardenworst and is selling it since a few weeks. So get over there and get it.

Never heard someone mention them before, outside of the mythical beast platforms or something like that.. Makes me like you guys even more hahahh🥹 Edit part 2 hahahah: Did you ever get the loempia’s from a Chinese restaurant? You talked about a “hot pocket size” loempia and I (as a dutchie) don’t really know how big a hot pocket is hahah, but the loempia’s at the chinese places are pretttty big! Loooove peanut butter with sambal! I make a peanut butter, sambal (badjak, not olek or something like that) raw red bell pepper, fried onions (the ones you can buy in the supermarkets🤭) and sometimes bean sprouts, but without them it’s already very good! That was my go to “fancy” lunch at work hahahah (i’m declared unfit, I don’t know if that is the right translation, but I’m 31, chronically ill, MS, and can’t work anymore 😅)

​@@buncharted City of parks, but also a city with a rough exterior but nice hidden gems spread around. It suffered heavily from WWII, and every year around september there's multiple local events and remembrances. Some in the city, some in the towns and villages nearby. All centered around Operation Market Garden. Anyway, the zoo itself worth visiting, but the Openluchtmuseum is especially a gem.

there’s a video from last summer that says “we’re moving” in the thumbnail - can’t remember the name of the video 😅 the beauty of living in dordrecht is that it’s very close to rotterdam but is much smaller than the 3 cities you mentioned, so we get the best of both worlds
