Totally agree that the reason why older folks and not-so-old people find gardening appealing is that it's a slow hobby but ultimately a rewarding haha I myself, who is in their early 30s, have managed to see the appeal of garding that I have began to dabble a little on it although my style for gardening is more like landscaping a vivarium rather than making it look like the conventional garden with well trimmed plants and grass. Also, those loud bellowing frog calls that you heard whe it was raining were the calls of Banded Bullfrog males looking for a mate and their calls are so loud for such a small species and the calls sometimes keeps me awake during nights with heavy rains because they are so noisy haha. The calls of the Cane Toads sound more different since their call is described as a long trilling/clucking call that is more higher-pitched for such a large amphibian. And since the rainy season is the mosquito season, hopefully some insect-eating birds like swifts and swiftlets start showing up in your property.

Mikey, try to make the organuc mosquito repellant. Mix 3 tbsp. Coffee grounds, 3 Tbsp. Olive oil and 3 tbsp. Lemon juice. Mux and let it sit for 4 hrs. Strain in a fine cheese cloth or sieve. Put it in a jar. Then apply a small amount on your skin when you go to the garden or sitting outside in your backyard. It smell good. You can use it too as a mosquito repellant as a lamp. Just put 1/2 cup of Olive oil with the coffee grounds. Add 1 cup of water and put a wick like a candle. Light it in your patio. The mosquito hates the smell of coffee. Good luck.

Your Mom is very busy in your garden. Wow lots of seedlings too! Fresh grown organic vegetables and fruits are the best! You can buy packs of vegetable seeds i.e. Okra, spring onions, radish, bell peppers, kale, etc. they are easy to grow just spread them on your veg. box plant..you will be surprised how they grow! Gardening is a great hobby. Mom knows best!

Mickey, I'm a 69 year old senior in Canada. After I retired in 2015, I transformed my front and back yard as a "Botanical Garden" (my Canadian neighbours named it)..Grubs invaded the whole lawn, so I don't have any choice. I loved gardening and I can stay there from 0600-2100 every day..I even dozed off in one of my resting chairs..
