I just got notification today that I got a job 😊 I'll be renting an apartment hopefully by February. I've been (homeless) a guest at families homes for 20 months. Covid and a bad car wreck (injuries)flipped my life upside down. I went from independent to dependent, I lost everything! So thankful for the email I got today about my new job. ✝️💖😊 I was blessed and happy with my little life, I'm glad to get to rebuild it again.

“A successful businessman on vacation was at the pier of a small coastal village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The businessman complimented the fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The fisherman proudly replied, “Every morning, I go out in my boat for 30 minutes to fish. I’m the best fisherman in the village”. The businessman, perplexed, then asks the fisherman “If you’re the best, why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish? What do you do the rest of the day?” The fisherman replied “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, spend quality time with my wife, and every evening we stroll into the village to drink wine and play guitar with our friends. I have a full and happy life.” The businessman scoffed, “I am successful CEO and have a talent for spotting business opportunities. I can help you be more successful. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats with many fishermen. Instead of selling your catch to just your friends, you can scale to sell fish to thousands. You could leave this small coastal fishing village and move to the big city, where you can oversee your growing empire.” The fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?” To which the businessman replied, “15 - 20 years.” “But what then?” Asked the fisherman. The businessman laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!” “Millions - then what?” The businessman said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, spend time with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your friends.”

This is a great message, Nate and Sutton! How wonderful that God is showing this lesson to you now. God had me pare down my belongings substantially this year and it’s quite freeing. I am very appreciative of your vulnerability and letting us know the lessons God is teaching you. I really love small homes. I think they’re so cozy! May God bless you on this journey of finding out what kind of home is best for you.

Yeah, I’m a Christian and I’ve never seen a more perfect example of someone who is Christian in name only. He’s not fooling anyone else but his poor wife & I’m concerned for her safety and well-being. His actions speak volumes, and God knows. He can pretend all he wants online for likes and views, but treating his wife so poorly is disgraceful. Christians aren’t supposed to be narcissistic, manipulative and selfish like this man is. So shameful.

You are SO right in everything you have stated. I started watching The Minimal Mom and you have to watch her videos. She has inspired me to declutter, downsize, donate, etc and live a more simplistic life. It has been SO freeing. We have watched so many friends go bigger and bigger with their homes, cars, trips etc. Meanwhile, we have lived in our home for 36 years. We have done simple inexpensive changes year by year. We are now empty nesters and are so content with our one level simple home. And YES WE HAVE ROOM IN OUR DOUBLE CAR GARAGE to park our 12 year old cars inside. We have watched our town build more and more storage units which are a HUGE monthly costs for people. It is very freeing to live with less. Our motto is if we earn more we give more. We have owned our small retail store for 46 years. We work hard, give hard. Thank you for sharing your story of awareness to live a simple life!

We have a great marriage, love the Lord, and have a second baby on the way! Life truly is good! I have to be honest that I was envious of your home and your willingness to GIVE IT UP if the Lord asks you to is so powerful! I had to stop this video and wanna share a bit of our story, we lived in canada basically our whole life, both of our Daughters where born there, our income was really good we could do whatever we desired, but we felt a calling to move back to where my husband was born,a third World Country, 2 years ago, we live on a very tight budget our income obviously is much much lower here, all the money my husband earns is much counted for, this past pay period we actually had 5 dollars leftover, which we are excited about 😂cause it tells us we can do this, but we don’t make enough to pay for our girls school tuition so we need to go back to Canada to work for a few weeks/Months out of the year to pay for that, but My husband and I spend so much time together now we do everything together our girls are happy here and I’ve honestly never experienced a peaceful life like this before and I wouldn’t trade it for the life we used to have when we could do much more, God is all powerful and He knows what’s best for His Children. Keep Sharing the truth , love you guys ❤

It's so interesting to hear your perspectives on this matter. My husband and I are opposite of you guys. We have a small 1 bed 1 bath apartment with just a bed and drawers. We don't have a couch or a table to eat or anywhere to host guests. We do our best to focus on God and rejoice in Him. I can say it's been a very humbling experience living this way for over a year but painful at the same time. We barely make enough money to cover our bills and struggle to have anything extra for dates. We give out of every paycheck trusting that God will bless those who need it more and bring the increase. We often think about how we can't wait to see financial increase to help others more. I have seen through us consistently giving that God puts it on people's hearts to give us money without knowing our situation but it is always right on time to pay bills. God has been good to us growing our faith and trust in Him. I always think I want to be in a position of abundance to be able to give because I know what it is to have lack. But like you guys said, the more money, the greater the responsibilities. The ideal would be enough to cover bills, enjoy life with family, and also help those who are struggling. Whether we have much or little, our hearts must remain in a servant state towards God knowing that we will reap what we sow. If we give, it will be given back to us. It does seem like it's harder to give when your bank accounts are full because our flesh wants to rule us. Praying for all of us to have hearts of obedience, surrender, and discipline to God to maintain humility and giving in all states or conditions.

When my children were young we never did Santa but Jesus. Most of the gifts we gave were necessities with a few extras. As grandparents we stopped buying gifts at Christmas a few years ago. We were feeling so overwhelmed in our society at Christmas time. Even Christians who say it’s about Jesus rarely spend time focused on Jesus ( us too!) in the month of December. So much time is spent on parties, parades, plays, school events, even movies that have nothing to do with Jesus at church! We said enough. I don’t have a tree either. I decorate for winter like I decorate for fall. Each day we focus on Jesus. My favorite Christmas movie is the 2006 The nativity story! We just watched it with our grandchildren. They see the difference between our home and what the world says is Christmas. May the Lord lead you into a deeper relationship with Him everyday🙏🏻. God bless you all.

My husband and I have been married for almost two years and have been in a small two bedroom apartment the entire time. We desire a bigger space to fit more people, and I appreciate this reminder that we don’t need to fill that space with things. Recently, the Lord has helped me realize that my feelings about our apartment not being big enough stem from pride and that I can still be a good hostess in this space. It’s how I use it that matters, not how big or small it may be. If we don’t use this smaller space well, how can we be trusted to use a bigger space well? It’s like the parable of the talents🙂thank y’all for sharing what God has been doing in y’all’s life!

This word was good guys. No need to feel that you poured out too much on us. We receive the message in its fullness and thank you for being obedient to delivering it! I also have practiced minimalism more over the past few years and before my son could get new toys I asked him to give away all the ones he currently had. The same goes for clothes, kitchenware, linen, and more items. I don’t believe in a life of excessive accumulation of things. I used to have a battle that if God makes me wealthy, will I not keep my core values and just start accumulating things, and I remembered that God can make us financially secure and abundant but that doesn’t mean we have to live in excess. We can still be financially secure minimalists and learn to give more than we receive/ accumulate. Thats is my desire. I desire to have financial freedom but also to be humble enough to know that the money is still to be used in the kingdom of the lord not for my flesh!!! Its okay to have nice things. God doesn’t promote us to be poor and in lack, but he also hates selfishness and insatiable appetites for greed. If we have abundance it should be for living well, generational wellbeing, community outreach, helping those in need, and proper education. God can do anything for us, but with what he does, we have to appreciate it and be conscious of what we do with our blessings. ♥️God bless you two!

I’ve been convicted about this too! We are going to majorly downsize/minimalize in our family, with the desire to be more thankful and creative with what we have instead of entitled and expectant about things we don’t! Our kids had so many toys, I felt like everyday I was just picking up ALL DAY LONG but they barely played with things, just got stuff out and went on to the next thing (we have 3 under 3). I realized we don’t need or even want most of the stuff we have, so it will be going. Each kid will get to keep their favorite toys and that’s it. If someone gives us more as gifts, they can either trade out one of their older toys, or give away the new gift - we’re done adding to the clutter!

I love this video! My husband and I are struggling to decide about building our dream home. We love our property and live in a small house with 6 people. But building would be a huge investment and we really aren't sure if that's the right place to put a lot of our money. We want to give & make sure we can be generous more and more. We also never want to make money an issue or not be content with what we have. It's so hard to decide to not do what it seems like everyone is doing and what will make our life "easier & better". I do feel like God has been pulling me toward not building but it's so hard to part with what I thought our dream was. Really evaluating all these things right now. It is hard to see "everyone" with Pinterest perfect homes and not feel like that's the goal. The temptation is hard.

This is my list of Christmas tradition ideas focused on Jesus * Make cake for Jesus together as a family on Christmas Eve! * Read Christmas story Luke 2:1-20 * Church service * 3 gifts per child because that’s how many gifts Jesus got. (Something they need/to wear, something to read, something they want) * Jesse tree * Write a letter to sponsored child * Operation Christmas child * Angel tree * Give to someone anonymously as a family * Moving nativity scene/ countdown to Bethlehem * The manger mission * Give gifts to Jesus * 25 days for Christ advent * Giving manger * Sleep on the floor on Christmas Eve to remember Mary and Joseph who couldn’t sleep in a bed that night * Have a box with index cards that your family writes your blessings on throughout the year. Christmas morning the family reads all the blessings from the year * Bake dessert with kids to give to family/friends/neighbors * write a prayer for each child in a blank journal and then read that prayer to them out loud on Christmas, adding a new prayer each year! Then they can keep the journal when they are older * Special Christmas dinner * Character cards create birthday cards for Jesus, and as our “gift” to Him, we try to better observe the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, the quality or attribute most challenging to each of us. For one child it might be patience, for another self-control. We brainstorm situations and actions that strengthen our patience, such as waiting for a turn, or self-control in sharing belongings without becoming angry. Then we write or draw these ideas on our cards. On Christmas Eve, the completed cards are placed in a stocking, to be opened and shared with the family on Christmas morning. Each child is able to celebrate the birthday of Jesus in a personal, tangible way, becoming “doers” of the Word and growing in strength of character. * Names of Jesus Christmas decorations We cut out stars from cardstock paper and wrote “Jesus is …” on each one. Then we wrote words that described Jesus, such as “Savior,” “Emmanuel” and “Prince of Peace.” For our family devotions that night, we talked about the different names of Jesus. Creating these stars to decorate our kitchen cabinets was a great way to engage my kids in remembering the character of Jesus. * Prayer box of Christmas cards Put Christmas cards in a box and add to it each year. Leading up to Christmas let the kids choose the Christmas card out of the box and you pray for that family.

This does not apply to me at this point in my life. I have been struggling for 3 years since fleeing an abusive marriage with nothing and being dragged through the court this whole time, and it has caused me to experience hate and abuse amongst my family members that have been helping to support me. I am naturopathic doctor and I have been really trying this whole time, but I fled to Texas because that is where my family is, and no one knows what I do here. Please anyone that reads this pray that my situation will turn around and God will provide for me. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you all.

This is so awesome! My husband and I received the same revelation from the Lord a couple of years ago. Holy Spirit convicted us in the way we were living in abundance. We made some changes and kept surrendering more to Him. And now we’re living as full time missionaries in India with our 4 kids! It’s amazing how God can use you when you continue to seek Him and His kingdom. I would have never imagined living in India but this is where He called us! Keep seeking Him and obeying His Spirit. Thanks for your perspective. I feel like the move to 'minimalism" , downsizing and career change at every turn has, in many cases, been a knee jerk reaction to abundance and can often represent a lack of contentment as well. If you believe that God lead you to your house, if you bought within your budget, and if you live within your means, maybe you can best honor God by staying put and using what He has given you . Comparison robs joy, so we all need to be careful and be content with what we have wherever we are. Keep up the good work !!

@Nate and Sutton Hi from UK, our homes are teeny in comparison. When you showed empty house with garden I thought. A. I'm jealous .... being honest. B. Is it safe, do you need security? C. All that cleaning! And does it echo as so huge. I say this to admit I was green eyed. This humble video is bloody brilliant, such authenticity. My kitchen is a mtr x a mtr. We don't have your huge fridges. I don't have room for oven, but air fryer. I'm gonna make a pile of what to get rid and donate. God bless your downsizing! Godly love from UK 🇬🇧 ❤️

Thank you for acknowledging that having the basics for a comfortable life does make you happier. Yes, I know happiness isn't everything and that my life with Jesus is much richer with my income now than life without Jesus and a million dollars, but my family of 4 makes half of the 70k number you mentioned. Sometimes with American Christian ministries having such a HUGE emphasis on charitable giving and keeping less for yourselves, it just makes me feel incredible guilty because there have been many times in my life were families/church members have been very kind/giving to me and my family cannot repay them back...I have been moved to tears of shame because their will be a pitch for sponsoring a child or some other cause and I know I cannot contribute. I love were your heart is leading you to and do agree that Americans really don't "need" as much as they think they do. God bless you guys and I hope your children realize as they get older how materially and spiritually blessed they are to have you as their parents :)

“Labour not to be rich: Cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away as an eagle toward heaven.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭23‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭ “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭35‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Proverbs 23 is the passage of scripture that the Lord opened the door to be read in my daily devos, which was a total God coincidence due to it being the day that this video was published and watched by me. It was something that just God really hit on throughout the video as well as when studying His Word. These three verses really say so much towards what you all pointed to in the video. You two are blessed and it's awesome!! A great reason to increase is so that we can GIVE more. Proverbs 13:22 "A righteous man leaves and inheritance to his children's children." The more we have, the more we can give. We live in an economic world and it takes money to spread the gospel to the Nations. Missionaries will be the first to tell you that they need money to dig wells and bring medical supplies overseas. Money is a blessing from God if it's in the right hands and being stewarded properly. You two are awesome! Do whatever the Holy Spirit leads you to do! Matthew 7:11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

This just might be your best video yet... at least it's top of my list! 🥰 I love the raw honesty and humility. I remember watching your house tour video and feeling a sense that it might be to you what my first house was to me: a lived realisation that a Long time desire was not really what I wanted, but what I'd been taught to want. It's beautiful really. Don't let people tell you it's a lack of gratitude because I can see that it's actually the polar opposite in your hearts. A revelation that excess is not your desire, is a special type of gratitude. 💞

"He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity." Ecclesiastes 5:10 This poignant verse is a strong reminder that even the possessions we love will not bring us true satisfaction and that obtaining more of them will not satisfy us either. I also like to customize this verse and substitute the word 'silver' with whatever I am thinking of splurging on. I say to myself "She who loves 'earrings' will not be satisfied with 'earrings'..." lol. It's actually been very helpful!

I don’t think you necessarily have to live in a small house, just not anything extremely excessive. We live in a 3500 sq ft home but we also have 4 boys. We need the space especially as they get older. And we also host a lot of family. One thing I have to remind myself to not get caught up in is constantly remodeling, changing decor or keeping up with trends. I’m instead trying to focus on keeping the stuff we have nice and keeping things clean. I really love the direction of your hearts! It was a good reminder to scale back on spending. ❤

I'm not being mean at all, but can tell you are much younger than me and were raised way after I was. 3500 sf for a family of six is huge. I grew up with kids from families of four kids that lived in 3 bedroom one bath homes that were 1200 sq ft. Kids shared bedrooms back then. Girls in one room, boys in another. My coworker now talks about how he shared a bed - not just a bedroom, with his brother until he graduated highschool. Didn't think a thing about it because that's what everyone did in middle class America in the 50's through 1972. Crazy huh?! I truly think starting with the 1970's, materialism and excessive everything started being pushed on all of us Americans. "For the love of money is the root of all evil."

Another angle to think about with your home is utilizing it more often to minister to others through your church i.e small groups/ hosting youth groups etc. It's always wonderful to be able to fellowship with others off campus within a home. So maybe God wants you to consider other uses for your home beyond providing for your family. Whatever you guys decide, I pray God will give you wisdom and that He would bless it unto Jesus.

Maybe you could start something and have us join you in purging our homes having prayer and devotion. You are on to something huge here and you cannot stop with this video there is still way too much to cover. I can sense God using you to challenge us as a body of believers to get rid of what is not of Him and become more like Him. We are to travel lightly because we are the light. It’s so interesting because in some way that’s exactly what I had been looking into, too! No coincidences for sure. I had been looking into my learned behaviors to seek joy from outside things - instead of from inside. Three years ago I lost everything, the most important being my health. My relationship, home, income, the ability to work. Since then my journey has been very intense - I learned so much more than I would have ever learned being healthy! So I am very grateful for this opportunity to dive in very deep, also on my relationship with God. And I continue to heal from the inside. It was very interesting to see both of your insights as well! And if I have ever been envious of your lifestyle, please forgive me!

I think the only thing I'd add is to say that gratitude is the antidote to greed. When you realise just how much God has blessed you with, everything else doesn't matter. Living simply can be just as much of an idol as the greed for more stuff, but what you're giving thanks to God for everything (little or much), you don't need to worry about the stuff.

Honestly, I've avoided your channel lately because I didn't really agree with the bigger and better premise I noticed re your housing etc. I am pleased that I clicked on this today to see that you are re-considering this mindset. Having had big houses through the (married) years and now living in below market rental after a difficult divorce, my satisfaction level is far greater than having the large home that I could never afford to decorate and never feeling satisfied... And I make lots less than 70K in retirement (less than 30K in fact.) So congrats to you for recognizing this at less than half my age! It will make life so much more satisfying in the end. God Bless you and your sweet boys.

We moved into a bigger home last December. From 980 square feet to 1791 square feet. Which may not seem very large to most people. But the change has been hard. It is needed because we were squeezed into what felt like a storage unit with 3 kids. But life has definitely become more hectic because of more space. It’s more to clean, more area for toys and clothes to be in places they don’t belong. When we were choosing a floor plan, I told my husband we could go with a 1500 square foot house, but he was unsure. I regret not getting the 1500 square foot house. Maybe I’m wrong… I don’t know.

We have a perfect amount of sq footage. Less than 1800 sq ft for 4 people. The layout is just not good. Can’t fit a normal size couch in the living room. We host our community group sometimes and it’s just 14 people squished in there. So we do want to remodel, but I truly don’t need more space. If I need space I can go outside. I want less stuff too. I’m glad y’all are starting this while the kids are little. We have one adult kid at home and one teen. I think when they move out we will have grandbabies by then from my other married kids. But if not, we’ll have 3 guest bedrooms lol Side note: I LOVE The Chosen! I was in episode 1 and will be in a couple more this season. It’s a HUGE blessing!!!!
