Love you guys, and love the Overlander :-) Here is an idea for the popup roof: my previous camper had a similar roof system, with a DC 12V swing gate motor (rated to 200kg). It was strong enough to handle the roof’s weight (without solar panels). The opening process was about 10 seconds. It’s just an idea, hope it helps. I can’t wait to see the conversion! Take care! Peter

Hi Peter! Great to hear from you. That's great to know about the DC12V motor. I was looking at 12v linear actuator motors and wondered if that could work out and I guess you have answered my question! It actually has gas struts too, we managed to lift it yesterday and it only needs a real push for the first 20cm or so, then the gas struts make it a breeze, I'm thinking about a short 12v linear actuator that can do that first initial push! My second idea was to physically raise the roof, by adding box section underneath the roof, or maybe inbetween, this would mean I could stand up fully without popping the roof for most of the time. Then I could always pop it for when we might want to sleep up there, or for guests. Wow that was a long winded reply, I'm sorry! Take care, Michael

@@vpphun The overland show was great fun and it was great to meet you. I think having that extra permanent hight will be on the agenda at some point. We found it tough in the Westy Syncro when we had snow and cold weather. We just need to make sure it will still fit in a shipping container, as we would love to be able to ship this to the Americas one day :D

Yes, it might be in the HQ area, or we might just run a few pop ups. Some might be relaxed camping evenings, others could be a real special event, maybe some music too! Hope you are well Phil!

Great video! Looking forward to seeing your build! I'm still trying to figure out how I will do the roof once I get my T1, as I'm 6ft 6-ish and have looked at high roof T1's, pop tops, extending the roof, as well as the t1 Westfalia roofs from the James Cook models, and then fitting one of them to get the height. This, however is easier said than done!! I'll be super intrigued to see how you figure it all out and what you decide! looking forward to following your build!! Cheers, Tom
@ChefCampers

Hey Tom, thanks for the kind comment. Unless you have ambitions to ship inside a shipping container, I would go down the high top route. These vans are high anyway, so you are not going to get into most height restricted places anyway. Take a look at RoadHouse page on Facebook. They are based in Portugal and have plenty of high tops to fit to a T1 and sometimes vans for sale too. I think they also do the work, so it might be a job they can do for you. We started on removing the seats today and I might be cutting the roof tomorrow! Wish me luck haha! Cheers Michael

There’s actually a pull out draw next to the sink with a removal single gas stove. I think I will use our portable gas stove, rather than have something fitted and take worktop space. We really enjoyed taking it out and cooking on picnic benches, or just outside when the weather was nice. They had a cassette toilet, which was under the bed, a bit like the buddy box system in a T25. I think we will do a few changes over time, rather than spend too much time trying to build something perfect. I don’t want to get down the rabbit hole of over designed and over engineered 😆🚒😁
