What goat milking machine is that? I don't see it listed in your description, would love one. Great video, do you drink the milk ever? how is it?

Just ran across your video. What is the rub that you are using on your goats' udders after you milk. I know the spray, but you have a tub of some type of ointment. Thanks!
@deserthardtdairygoats3 жыл бұрын
I’m using KenAG Udder Cream. It’s a menthol style cream that helps blood circulation and keeps udders/teats from drying out.
@dawndolan30983 жыл бұрын
@@deserthardtdairygoats Can I use it, then let kids back on to nurse? Usually i separate kids from mamas at 3-4 weeks for the night, milk first thing, then let them nurse all day. Will the menthol keep the kids from wanting to nurse?
@deserthardtdairygoats3 жыл бұрын
@@dawndolan3098 It has no taste, I’d know because I had the same question😂 but if you’re not needing the menthol there are many other udder balms available

@@deserthardtdairygoats HI Again, I went back and looked at some of your videos, as I just acquired three Nigi girls, two of whom came bred to the buck of my choice. I've had Boer and Nubians for seven years, but want to learn more about these cutie little girls! (And I'm terrified of having to help with kidding--it's only happened twice out of ten births, but that's 20%!) Anyway, in one video you showed a few shots of your milking set up. What kind of milk machine set up to you have? I'd love a Hamby, but can't afford a $2000+ set up! Thanks, Dawn

Wow I've never seen milking done that way. Do you not keep track of each amount?
@deserthardtdairygoats Жыл бұрын
I only keep track of the amount of milk given by each doe on milk testing days, where it’s weighed and sampled by what each doe gives within a 24 hour window.

Hello Desert Hardt, I have 2 ND girls 2 months old and like your milk set up. What size Simple Pulse inflation hose did you use? It says Nigerian or micro and wanted to get the right size or another? and what biscuit/cookie are you feeding? thank you love your set up
@deserthardtdairygoats2 жыл бұрын
The inflations are the Top Flow Z with 1/2” hose size. The cookie/treat they get after being milked is just a Purina horse treat 😂

Question for you. I have two Nigerian dwarfs that I’m wanting to milk, and will be breeding them soon. I’ve had them for about a year now, but I never got them used to a stand, and haven’t gotten them comfortable with my touching their udders. Have you ever milked goats that weren’t used to the process, and do you have any tips on how to go about this?
@deserthardtdairygoats Жыл бұрын
Yes all my goats started out untouched when it came to being milked. It’ll just have to be a twice a day thing when you milk until they become comfortable and use to you touching them. Until then it’s a kicking match

May i ask what you are using instead of the teat cleaners? They seem to be unavailable now?
@deserthardtdairygoats2 жыл бұрын
I simply use luke warm water with a little soap, then I take teat check wipes (purchased off Amazon) and then I strip each teat a few squirts to ensure any bacteria is out. Then I begin milking
@cindymobley89262 жыл бұрын
@@deserthardtdairygoats "strip"? Not sure what that means. I have doeling that are 7-8 months that we are breeding so i am getting ready for the inevitable, i hope.
@deserthardtdairygoats2 жыл бұрын
@@cindymobley8926 “strip” just means a few squirts from each teat. You usually strip a teat before and after, if you’re using a milk machine. You squirt milk from each teat before you begin milking to make sure you rid any of the milk that was sitting just inside teat. That’s were bacteria usually collects
