Safely to the Bahamas. Congratulations. Sitting here on a cold rainy Canadian winter morning and being happy for you guys enjoying the warmer weather. It’s handy to be handy for sure. Would not have been fun to not be able to fix the furler. Job well done. Now that I saw Steph’s dessert, I have to make something for tonight too. I don’t want to be left out.

notes: lion fish( known as poor man's lobster in Australia) clean with plyers and gloves, lobsters best to twist the tail off when fresh and BBQ the tail split in half. If you don't want a flying Champagne cork , hold the cork firmly in you hand and slowly turn the bottle and you will feel it and control the release. I have been following your channel recently. First posting. Glad you made it to the Bahamas safely. I also mentioned your adventure to some friends of mine down there- the O'Kelly's on Clarity. They are a bit ahead of you in the chain, down near Warrick Wells in Exuma's as of yesterday's conversation with them. Seek them out, they have a world of knowledge about cruising in the Carib. after 25 years sailing the region. I was hooked on them after this episode: "Need Space"? Our Secret spots Best anchorages vid from about a year ago. Sundowners on the Stern if you meet up with them later in your travels? Tell them- I sent you to them too, they'll get a kick out that! They're a really cool couple. There are a few other cruisers in the region, you might enjoy that I follow too. GBU Sailing. Beau & Brandy Sailing. Millennial Falcon Sailing too are scattered through out the travel area ahead for you. One other person who has imo a world of knowledge to pass on to other cruisers- is Capt. Rick Moore on SSL a fellow Canadian down near the Island of San Andreas, Columbia- off the coast of Panama. He might help you all too after 100k miles of sailing. Enjoy the adventure and the rum- the life style, during these Covid times. Hurricane damages, restrictions, boat repairs on the fly- limited supplies in port, cash layout... to sunsets in calm waters all in one day with many more ahead for you two. Stay safe, live and learn and then turn the motor off, tighten up the sails drifting along the turquoise blue waters, and maybe with a few dolphins escorting your bow waves to your next port of call. Every sunrise is a new adventure. Fair winds... LAC

When you get a chance, buy a toilet plunger. Drill 5 holes in it about the size of a quarter. Also get a lid for you 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. Cut a hole in the middle of the lid big enough to get the plungers handle through from the bottom. Now you have a wash machine for your clothes.
@SailingJibsea4 жыл бұрын
Great idea! We’ve seen the plungers but we have figured it’s been a good workout so far before we get our hands on a spare plunger 🤗

What happened to the shroud? Did the turnbuckle just loosen up? It sure looks windy over there. Here there is barely enough wind to turn the wind turbine right now, and lately if we get an amp out of it we are doing good. Last week we were seeing hours of 5-8 amps untill it would shut itself off when we got the batteries charged over 14v. Shame to have power to spare and nothing to spend it on even with short days on the solar panels.
@SailingJibsea4 жыл бұрын
Yes it loosened and we did not have safety rings on it (which have now been put on) It’s been calm the past couple of days finally, but winds are supposed to pick up once again tomorrow Are you guys still in Vero? It’s nice you guys have so much power! We can’t remember what it’s like to have power to spare lol. Every light would be on, the microwave would be used and even the TV haha
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
Good that you caught it before it was too late. We had a rigger in Oriental show us a couple of years ago how to use brass welding rod bent in a big U inserted through the safety holes and then bent in and tucked away from any possibility of snagging. One piece per turnbuckle. It is pretty slick and easy to do and also to remove. You can buy that stuff cheap in a 3' tube at welding shops or Harbor Freight and it is a lifetime's supply. Those darn rings ste so expensive and are oftentimes messed up when taking them off or just getting snagged and bent out of shape multiple times in a sailing season unless you tape over them. Then moisture gets trapped under the tape... We just upgraded our turbine to a new Primus Air Breeze. It has more than tripled our wind power production. When it is blowing 20+ it can produce 200w all day and all night. You guys probably have seen a lot of 20s there in the Bahamas this time of year LOL. The wind will die down next month there and will be really nice by hurricane season (untill a storm comes.) Are you going to head further South or go back North this year? We are heading to Maine probably this summer, but will take our time getting up there. Even after doing the East coast multiple times there are still a lot of things we haven't seen yet.
