After 4 years of full time Boondocking it still AMAZES us that there are free camping spots out there that are this SPECTACULAR!!! But before we get to the Boondocking location….. how about the moki dugway!!! We definitely would not drive this In inclement weather but it was equally SPECTACULAR and EXHILARATING!!!! As we start the video I said it was Highway 161…… that was incorrect, it is Highway 261!

Just curious, can you fly your drone there? If not how did you get the amazing shots? Going in 2 months. Want to fly mine. Also, is there enough room for cars to pass each other going up and down?

Bill Perdue We were able to fly here! There are several pull offs where you can get out and use a drone or take pictures. The road is plenty wide for 2 normal size vehicles to pass each other. We had to do over an hour of research before our flight to make sure we complied with all the rules and regulations. My Part 107 drone pilot training came in useful. Not far after you reach the top is a restricted area and you will not be able to fly as it is a National Recreation area. I would not recommend this as a first flight as there is much research, planning and hazards to be considered at this location. Please let me know if you have more questions. We hope you have a great time!

❤ Wow another mind blowing road trip. The drone footage traveling up the hill was great to really get the full sense of size. The time lapse of the sunrise with the van at 18:00 breathtaking then to top it off with the valley. Just so great to see parts of the US which we hope to travel to one day. If not we at least feel great seeing it with you two. Seeing the stones/rocks/boulders definitely gravity as they look like they could fall down the mountains any moment. For me I can stop to think how great to see so much untouched land by man kind. More important the volume of human history hidden all over the landscape. I normally don't pass up mountain roads, but I rode up the Dugway once with a friend who had no sense of danger and drove it much too fast despite the objections of everyone else in the vehicle. I thought I would be sick and kept my eyes closed most of the way. We also encountered dump trucks coming down. It was the most frightening experience of my life. I advise all of my traveling friends to skip it. You have nerves of steel.

The State of Utah recommends that only vehicles less than 28 feet in length and 10,000 pounds in weight attempt to negotiate the road. Most vehicles can travel the route safely. Caution is advised for motor homes or vehicles pulling trailers. However, small RV’s like truck campers and shorter class B and class C motorhomes can tackle this drive with ease.

Several years ago I drove up this Hwy and thought it was an epic drive. 😎. Unbelievable how quickly you went from the bottom to the top. Your drone footage is INCREDIBLE. Absolutely beautiful. I live in Utah. It is an amazing place to call home. You did wonderful job on this video!! I have always wanted to drive the Moki dugway but have never done it, I have to go for sure now!! Thanks for taking me along with you!! Could you get a 26ft travel trailer in the camp sites there? Is the road all one way and only accessible by driving up the dugway to the campsite?

Hi Gary! You can enter from the north side and not have to go up the Dugway. We did not see any trailers in this area but finding a site is possible but a bit risky. I believe trailers and rigs over 10k pounds are not recommend. The road is narrow with hairpin turns. Meeting another rig in the opposite direction would frighten me 😂

Hi John! I think a smaller class c could do this road. They do caution rigs over over 28 feet or 10000 pounds. Even if you don't do the Moki dugway the Valley of the Gods is right in the same area which we highly recommend for free camping. 😀

Still loving you adventure videos. I have heard that front wheel drive campers can have trouble with traction going up steep grades as all the weight shifts toward the rear wheels. Have you experienced this? I have a 2016 Promaster diesel.

Yes, we have had to back up a steep gravel road one time as we could not make it going face-up. Front-wheel drive has been awesome in the snow I will say.😀

We are pretty sure it is a dark sky area, there are just no towns anywhere around. The one night we were there it was cloudy! 😂 We also liked some of the camping not on the edge of the cliff there.
