Honestly I got to hand it to the council. Their intervention on the First Contact war not only prevented a drawn out conflit that would weaken the Turians and maybe destroy the Humans, they managed to improve relations between both races to the point that Humans and Turians are commercial partners and even have joint military programs. If the Batarians weren't such a tyranical and expansionist state, the Reaper war in ME3 could very well be the last Reaper Cycle (counting the cure of the genophage and peaceful resolution on rannoch).

Turians are the 7th most hated species in mass effect. First are the Batarians, second are the Vorcha, third are the geth, fourth are the Rachni, 6th are the krogan, 7th are the quarians, the 8th are the Turians. Only 4 species hate the Turians, the batarians are racist slavers that hate everyone, the Vorcha are barely sapient and hate everyone, the krogan for the genocide, and humans for the attempted genocide. Every species in the galaxy hates the batarians, the vorcha, the geth, the rachni and the krogan, most of the galaxy hates the quarians and won't let them immigrate to any planet or space station.
