'Our Neighbour Killed My Boyfriend With A Crossbow & Shot Me At 20 Weeks Pregnant' | This Morning

Laura Sugden and Shane Gilmer lived in a quaint village in Yorkshire. However, life in suburbia wasn’t all that it seemed. Following a year-long feud their neighbour, Anthony Lawrence broke into their home undetected with a crossbow. In an attack that can only be likened to a horror film, both Shane and Laura - who was 20 weeks pregnant at the time - were shot. And although Laura miraculously managed to escape, Shane tragically lost his life. Laura joins us today to tell her story, and discuss her campaign for tighter regulations around the possession of crossbows - #ShanesLaw.

I have had issues with my neighbour since 2019. It all started with my constantly being kept away during the hours by his loud music which I eventually reported. This is when my troubles really started, fortunately, I am still here at the moment. So very sorry for this lady's loss, Truly sorry.

My male neighbor was doing the same thing, playing music starting from 9pm, 10pm, sometimes only starting at midnight and then going til 3 or 4 in the morning. There was once when he started at midnight, at which point I was still awake because I'm a night owl, either trying to read or trying to listen to a video to help get sleepy, and I hear it start. I am so tempted to go out there and talk crap, tell him turn it down but I don't. I somehow managed to fall asleep about 1:50 am. I wake up the next morning at 6am to get my kids ready for school. Guess what, he's still going. And not just normal radio music blasting, he's a former DJ...so the horrid base pounding and the repetition was making me sick. He then keeps on going until well after my kids got on the bus, and I was trying to lay down for a morning nap since I'd not got much rest the night before. So he played from after midnight until 9 or 10am. In most towns there are noise ordinances as far as decibels, as well as time you can play it. I was very close to reporting him in some way so at least he'd get a warning. I had already told his gf twice about it, but he just kept doing it. Pretty sure he was a bit, hopped up, if you know what I mean. The M word, or something like it. No 40-something adult can stay up 24 hours without sleep like that, without some kind of help. Anyway, I never did have to say anything else or report him to the landlord, because he stopped. *Knock on wood*. I now believe someone else had said something to him, someone was brave enough to say to his face, or else the cops dropped by to give him a good warning, because he hasn't tried it in months. Maybe 5 or 6 months. It was a nightly occurrence at one point.

@@youcantdiealonewithcats I am in the UK, so I managed to get it stopped. These people have no respect for others. I was talking to a man in the area where I lived and he almost lost his life. He had repeatedly asked this neighbour living in the ground floor flat to turn the music down after 11pm as he needed to be up at 6am for work. Anyway, he went down to the flat at 1am and said, turn the music down and the neighbour pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed him 14 times. He was very, very lucky to survive. The individual got 6 years in prison.

I have crossbows, multiple, and I 100% agree that these need regulating. I know these are not classified as weapons under the 1988 act, but they should be! I would happily license mine, and would happily register. To have these for sporting or even collecting is fine, but steps need to be taken to avoid them falling into the wrong hands, for onus and responsible and accountable keeping,l. Don't get me wrong, you can make them, you can even 3d print them, but this is more reason to regulate before it gets out of hand and the idea is to msoe it harder where we can for people to be able to achievethe unthinkablewhere we can. These things can be so dangerous in the wrong hsnds. They can render balistic shields, armour, stabproof kit and even some semi hard cover useless, surley this is reason for change. God love her and her family. I can't imagine knowing the damage they cause what this must have been like. Government need to he aware that crossbows are not old tech anymore but potentially tactical firearms and need to monitor accordingly.

Firstly its legal under the act 1987 and it should not regulated, crossbow crimes is extremely rare, at most its happens few times in couple of year. drinking driving, knife crime, even gun crime have use much more than crossbows.
