Please look into the physical/health requirements needed to become a commercial pilot according to the FAA. This is a very expensive road and if you cannot pass a first class medical (which you have to get done every 6 months) and EKG (any one over 40, done once a year) and keep it your full flying career (until age 65) you will not have a job flying. Recommendation from a pilot wife-take the first class medical now before you start down this path. Many blessings to you and the family on your next adventure in life.

As someone who has that nomadic spirit myself, these changes make total sense. I’m someone who loves changes, exploring, and going to new places. I went back to school and became a travel nurse after being a teacher for a while so my job would allow me to travel. I lived in an Rv for a bit and did short rentals as I moved from place to place every 3 months. I love that you are so nomadic while having kids! Not only does it help them with learning adjusting to change at a young age but they can see that mom and dad aren’t afraid to go after their dreams. You both are blessed to have partners who have the same nomadic spirit. Can’t wait to see all the adventures you guys get up to in the future

My husbands dream is to be a landlord, I know that sounds odd, but his family had to deal with a lot of unscrupulous landlords as he was growing up, and any time they had a good one it stuck out to him. He wants to be someone who keeps nice homes at fair prices and doesn’t let the bottom line dictate people’s lives. He realized this in 2016 and we are still working on it, but I am so glad he was able to really think about what he wants from life- previously he thought he didn’t have choices and was stuck in life.

My friend’s parents live in a neighborhood for pilots with a runway in the middle it. All of the houses have a hanger for their planes. 😊 ✈️ Look for an airpark neighborhood. Good Luck 🍀

Mike, I would totally watch a channel with content of learning to fly. I think that would be exciting. My grandson is in California and working on getting his commercial pilots license and he loves it. I think he will instruct at the school until he can get the 1000 hours, or so, for qualifications to be hired as a commercial pilot.

What?!? That’s fantastic!! Whether Mike has his own channel or not, he should definitely share his process and matriculation through the license system. It’s informative and inspiring for others. And it’s fascinating! I’d love to hear about the meteorological weather and topographical side of flying. Fly is a gift Mike can share with others in a special way. My dad had his pilots license since he was sixteen. And some of my fondest memories are flying with him. He used to fly on Saturdays and sometimes I would go with him. They are beautiful cherished memories of having breakfast/brunch all around the Los Angeles area-from airports near the coast to the valleys to highest mountaintops. And whether they realize it or not, our kids are inspired by our choice to pursue change and new adventures. I’m so excited for the whole family

No matter what you said your plan was with moving up for your parents or however that works out things always change and that's okay. My grandma and grandpa both had their pilots license and owned a small cessna plane back in the 80s and 90s. Sadly they sold the plane before I was old enough to remember and I never got to fly with them. I keep telling my grandma to buy another one lol

I've been following you all since before you went overseas. I am not surprised by this development - if there is anything that you can expect from the Knorpps it's that they'll zig when you're expecting them to zag haha I hope you have the best time flying. I have only limited experiences and it was amazing. I would be interested in videos on your lessons and progress. I think you are wrong in thinking only the husbands of your viewers would be interested. Considering the gendered nature of the airline industry, you should take any opportunity you have to highlight women you meet who are pilots. But also, women due to various life experiences etc. might have to change their career late in life so your experience will be helpful and perhaps inspiring.

I am surprised he wanted to fly for an airline. Even charter and air ambulance (our experience has been all that plus private). Long time away from family including on holidays. But as much as they change things, he could be a banker in a couple of years too. Lots of money to tie up in schooling if you don't want to do this for a decade or 2.

My son trained for a pilot and achieved his instrument training certificate right before the pandemic. It was about $30,000. He was devastated and couldn't see the way forward. The love is still there. I'm thinking to give him a little push after watching this video, so thanks.

I love this for you all. At 47, I changed careers. I was a healthcare financial analyst, quit my job, and returned to school to study interior design, which was what I always, from high school on, wanted to do. It was hard & challenging but with the support of my son & wonderful husband, I made it. I started my own firm, worked every facet of the business, made mistakes and learned from them, joined my professional organization and became president of the local city chapter, and made so many new friends. Now at almost 72, I can’t believe how fast the years passed & I am so thankful that I spent those years doing something I love and still continue to do even if it is now on my own semi-retired timeline. God and family have been so good to me and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to achieve my dream. I can’t wait to see where your dreams take you!

What a beautiful epiphany you've had. I'm really happy for you, Mike. I hope you are so proud of yourself. My husband and I live exactly the same way as you two with our 4 kids. We take chances and talk as a family before we make any choices. We moved across country 4 years ago and are looking at moving to Hawaii at the end of the year. We are nomadic and are happy together no matter where we are. We all just follow our hearts and let our kids think the same way-- outside of the box. I also want to offer my support to you for making the right call with your parents. I think it's wonderful that you considered both their needs and yours. Ignore any negative comments.
