Magnetos are weak at cranking speed. Model T Ford started on battery ignition then you switched to the Mag after it was running .. Many cars worked that way. That was before they had a generator in many cases. They were Dry cell batteries that you had to replace when they were dead. The Headlights were Acetylene .

When you are trying to center holes like in the magneto, there's something called a transfer rivet. Like a buck rivet, but hardened and with a point on the head. Place your piece needing drilled over the holes with the transfer rivets in place and give it a light tap, or tighten the hardware in the aligning holes. Remove, the piece, and the transfer rivets will have center punched the new, needed holes.

Two, in the spirit of equal treatment, If a man showed up at the H.D. dealership to work on bikes, does he have the option of wearing a G-string, letting it all Hang out? I think not. When I worked in a shop many moons ago, we wore a provided uniform. Just a thought....

Coming from a mechanic that has worked for HD, chopper shops, and finally 15 years in aircraft, and a hobby restoring antique heavy equipment: If something you have has a magneto and you can switch to points or an electronic ignition DO. mags had their place decades ago but now, however "cool" they look are GARBAGE!

Aircraft have successfully used magnetos for a hundred years. Generally dual magnetos, that I've timed more than once, and worked fine.

WAit diagnosing on a kick starter... is an issue? Why don't you take the kick pedal off, hook your spark tester up, and use an impact/drill with a socket to turn it over? I mean... I've done that with outboard boat engines for much of my life. Remove flywheel, CRANK IT!!! when you have no electric to the starter.

I have seen a concept for a Goldwing trike as a wrecker/tow rig. It was pretty cool. However, I was watching the last video when he towed his newest boat, and it was bobbing and weaving, which usually indicates too much weight in the rear. It may be something up with the trailer, etc. Either way, it's tempting fate.
