I can understand your stress, and yes it's anxiety inducing with how much you don't have control. But from experience that mold could already be starting with that much carpet. And if it is water from a clogged toilet, you have a possible health hazard regardless of feces, it's still bacteria on top of mold. As an asthmatic, this can effect a kid quickly if they are around it. I hope they can resolve it as quick as possible.

It was a slow leak and we don't know how long it was leaking when we finally found it. When it's gray water they have to remove everything it touched. Our kitchen is on the same wall and we only have one bathroom. So we were out of our house in a hotel for 8ish months. All the flooring was removed and we had a whole kitchen and bathroom remodel. Everything but the vent repair was covered by home insurance and the home warranty covered some of the vent repair cost.

I’m sorry this happened. As worried as they are about the “toilet water” on your carpets I’m surprised they didn’t point out how yucky it is to wear shoes inside the house/on the carpet. That’s waaaaay worse 🤣🙈

I grew up going to NYC so many time. If you’re ever there during Christmas go to Times Square (Rockefeller Center). There’s a ginormous Christmas tree they light up and there’s a skating rink; it’s probably my favorite thing I’ve done in the city.

Note to self teach the kids how to turn off the valves for your toilets/sinks and if you have a inside main shut off tell them where it is. second have a plunger in every bathroom or near every bathroom and finally let your kids know that no matter what time it is, some issues are better to take care of now rather than latter. living in California you also might want to check the this old house/ask this old house library they might have a low-flow solution that won't clog or as often.

Sorry about the flood. Really you have to actually throw away toilet paper used for no. 1 . Especially with a size family like yours. I hope it doesn’t take to long to be fixed. Good luck!!!!

Sounds like you guys need to teach the kiddos the ticket method!! My dad sat us kids (8 total) down when we used a 12 pack of TP in two days. And specified how many sheets (he called them tickets fr the ride) of toilet paper we needed for pee (4 squares, fold in half, and in half again until you can’t use anymore) and Poo (8 squared and fold in half, and then half again, and repeat until you can’t use anymore)! That won’t solve the problem of overflowing toilets, but can definitely help!

Prayers for you and your family 💘 🙏. One time our furnace didn't work so we had to live in a motel for a few weeks so I totally understand. Stay optimistic about everything because stressing about it isn't going to help you, Chris, your mom or anybody really. ‣ Calm App helps with meditation and has white noise as well as bed stories for the kids. That helps me when I need to sleep ‣ calming tea helps before bed ‣ be glad you can leave the house and have something to do because that can help with stress ‣ cuddling an animal helps so much Good luck girl!🙏💘 - LIZZY

That’s why we use a bidet and don’t rely on toilet paper. We use towels. Only for periods or to pick undesirables. No toilet paper to flush down, we have trash bins for that. Bidet is life! It saves you 💰

When we moved into our new home the same thing happened to us. The upstairs toilet leaked into the the wall and downstairs into our family room. We had to replace all the brand new carpets and they had made a huge hole in the ceiling plus it also happened the day before Thanksgiving. It was a huge mess. We changed all the toilets 🚽 to be on the safe side. In my opinion I’d definitely change your toilets. Insurance did pay for everything, but it was a long process. I wish you the best of luck.

Definitely get multiple opinions on the repairs. If you use Nextdoor, post in your local community and ask for recommendations on home repair companies. Water causes more damage than anything else. I am sorry that this happened to you. 💔 You can get flooding sensors to put at the base of your toilets and such to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.

I got home from a weekend trip once and went to put my bags in my closet and stepped in a massive puddle outside my closet door. I opened it up and every inch of my closet was soaked. The laundry room had a pipe leak and drenched it lol. I had to have these huge fans in my room for a week and they made the room (and house) like 90 degrees. It’s such a pain in the butt.

Use your home insurance and pay the deductible. We had the same thing and the warranty didn’t cover it bc it was our fault. We got new floors, drywall, paint and new toilets that turn off the water once it reaches a level. I think our deductible was $1500 … we would have paid so much more if we paid for everything out of pocket that needed replaced. The cool thing is that our insurance didn’t go up.

Take pictures and document everything. I have been through 2 major house issues both with water. The first was shortly after we moved into the first house we purchased. Of course it was Labor Day weekend. I had gone into the bathroom to take a shower and used the toilet and flushed before starting the shower. Next thing I know my husband comes running in saying that there is water pouring down onto the washer and dryer downstairs under the bathroom. I had to rinse the shampoo out before he could turn the water off. So apparently the previous owner liked to all of his home repairs, but didn’t know enough to do them properly. The flange that connects the pipe under the toilet to the sewer line hadn’t been installed properly ie no soder/glue/or whatever they use to make a solid connection. It broke free and since the shower drains into the same pipe that water was dumping down below. There was also a sump pump in the basement floor that collects any water from a drainage system to prevent the basement from flooding and most of the water was flowing into that which triggered the pump to suck it up and make it go to the sewer line and it was basically just a loop of the water going up and coming back down again and again. It also soaked the carpet in the family room on the finished side of the basement. It had no windows and immediately started to mold. Insurance sent out people to clean it but it wouldn’t dry. They had to rip out and replace the carpet and they had to remove the flooring in the bathroom and were supposed to take it down to the joists but the men didn’t want to mess with the older flooring which could have asbestos and so they didn’t do a good job and we would have issues later because of it. The second time was in this house when the really cold temperatures froze a water line in the laundry room. It would have been a minor job had they fixed it quickly but they did not and it lead to them having to tear everything out down to the studs and floor joists and start over. It took 9 months to get it finished and they did the Sheetrock wrong on the windows and we can’t close 1 completely. I have to keep a dehumidifier in there to keep the moisture down.

Had a pipe burst from the person living above us once and we didn’t know until our whole kitchen ceiling fell. It was the worst having kids. I feel your pain, frustration anger and every emotion.

I live in an apartment and had legit the exact same problem. The person above us left their sink and and it flooded into our bathroom and closet. They legit did nothing to fix it though. We did all the work by catching the water in a bucket and waking up the guy above us. All they did was replace the drop ceiling, but they might not have to replace the drywall since it was a sink and not a toilet. I am not sure. But either way this will be tough, but you are a tough momma. You can do this

We had a pipe burst in early February, our kids bathroom, needed completely redone, as well was the playroom drywall and floors part of our living room dry wall, and our entry way dry wall, AND, some dry wall in the basement and carpet in the basement. It took insurance and everything till June to finish everything

You should keep a garbage can in bathroom and don’t let put toilet paper in toilet this way it won’t clog your toilet. We always had a well and septic so we trained our kids not to put toilet paper in the toilet. Just a thought.

literally my exact thought like that’s the first thing i’d do even if i don’t have the plunger in the bathroom with me, i go find one asap. crazy how this could’ve possibly been avoided. hindsight is 20/20 i suppose.
