@filipinonurseretireshome486411 ай бұрын
Hello! I know bamboo is beautiful but very prone to insect infestation. It normally do not last long. YOU MUST TREAT IT AND MUST USE A MATURE THORNY BAMBOO. IF you consider using bamboo for paneling, make sure you use the skin only. It will cost more but it is resilient to a lot of abuse and insect infestations. Make sure you treat them with Solignum at least 1/year. Good luck!

I really like how your house frame is constructed from steel. This is the first time I’ve seen this method used in the PHs. Very smart. Is there an advantage over all concrete block construction? Wood doesn’t last long unless it is really well treated. You mentioned the construction was discounted. What would be the regular price? Your property is lovely. Are you and your gf doing all the gardening and yard maintenance? Amping, David.
@thefloppydisk11 ай бұрын
Thank you for the compliments. We agreed that steel would be stronger and holds up better to the elements. Family members did most of the contracting, so we saved a bit. I mention both prices (with and without discount) at some point in the vid when I’m inside the house.
@ShikokuFoodForest11 ай бұрын
@@thefloppydisk I really like the steel frame like I said. What exactly did you use on the walls? Looks like some kind of wood siding. Do you figure that will stand up to the heat, humidity and insects? Again, curious why you chose a steel frame vs. concrete block? I’ll have to watch the video again. Happy New Year! Amping, David in Japan.
@olavlaupsa49011 ай бұрын
@@ShikokuFoodForest I would also choose the steel walls. Most of all because concrete is a real heat sink. Building with still framing it's easier to put up insulation and then have an inside wall. Also make hiding the electric cables inside the wall easier.
@ShikokuFoodForest11 ай бұрын
@@olavlaupsa490 Yes, you are right about concrete being a huge heat sink. It can be used to an advantage in cold climates. I do like the steel framing and for hiding the wiring and plumbing. Yes, easier to insulate too. I couldn’t tell what was used for wall siding in this case. What would you recommend?
@olavlaupsa49011 ай бұрын
@@ShikokuFoodForest In cold climate, like where I live in Norway, I would prefer wood, as it is better for insulation. Concrete has great advangaes in strength though. For siding I think it would depend on what is most important, looks or practicality. I would use aliminum sheets. Easy and lasting. You can use wood, but it need a lot more treating to last in the Ph. Insects and humidity can destroy ittoo easily. You could use fibre cement siding, but in my mind it's more work than aluminium and not that much nicer.
