Currently on medical leave…we’ve been hitting the pantry pretty hard. I’ve noticed somethings are nearing expiration that we acquired back in 2020. I also thought we had a 6 mo supply of things, 2 mos in and many things are depleted. I’d like to encourage everyone to take inventory and reconsider the amt of items we are putting up if we are to rely on our pantries to sustain us. ❤️🙏🏾

Can you order groceries delivered from your local food market? Also most markets sell shelf stable milk that does not need refrigeration in quart containers. My market sells them on the baking isle.

Great job! We are in a 2 bedroom, but still managed to squirrel away almost a year's worth of food. Every closet has half shelves under our hanging clothes. Both beds have freeze dried food and home canned items underneath. Top shelves have paper goods as they won't cause damage in an earthquake. Even our sofa has canned meat under the skirt. It can be done with some engenuity, lol

Folding stoves, that's what we need! We just recently bought some little cooking cans.
@bethfromchicago8719
@bethfromchicago8719 Жыл бұрын
We have a sterno...folding stove. It uses a canister of sterno..We found out the metal sides of the stove get very warm. Set it on a metal cooking sheet for stability. When we lost power a few years ago, we set the cooking sheet on a charcoal grill outside. The grill was just for stabilizing the cooking sheet and folding stove. Most of us prefer sturdy fry pans and one quart pans on our kitchen stoves. On the sterno..stove I recommend inexpensive small fry pans with thin bottoms. A one quart pan with a thin bottom is good also. You can put butter in the fry pan and fry bread until it is lightly browned and warm. The quart pot can boil water for pour over coffee, instant oatmeal, tea, etc. Chef Boyardee can be heated up in a pot. Don't put heavy or large pans on the sterno...stove because it could tip over. When we were without power during a five day outage, fry bread and pour over coffee was very good. The fast food restaurants had very long lines.

I have a home in south Florida and it is hard to keep the house consistently cool and dry for a prepped pantry in the kitchen . We don’t have basements here. I use my walk-in closet for my prepped food. It is the coolest area in the home and the master bedroom has an air conditioner dedicated to that room. I have home canned goods there, wheat berries and about $5000 in Thrive Freeze dried foods. Having freeze dried foods in your pantry is a must. They last 25 years

Had to subscribe. 😊 everybody don't forget, 🧐 cans are much heavier than clothing. Soo, don't stack them too high. Mine would be doubled like Pegi&Don's. Imagine... 4:26 a.m... you're enjoying your best sleeping hours and suddenly you hear the sound of your prep crashing to the floor 😯 If you can't install more shelves, you can still use ALL that wall space by stacking your light weight items on top of the canned goods. Your paper products, chips, pasta boxes can be stacked allllll the way up 😁 😊

I just recently found heat and eat in an emergency MRE’s online. I became so obsessed with prepping when they started shutting things down when Covid started that I’m still buying things plus my spouse has fear of fire so I had to get smokeless cooking supplies but It is smart to prep for anything including building your go bags for couple and go bags for your kids as well we were originally going to have a safe room built but during a conversation with neighbors someone said don’t forget you will also need a plumber to build a place in the room for you guys to use the bathroom and I said oh lord we are not digging all these holes in the basement so I went back to the computer and found toilets with disposable bags plus I have some powder that turns urine and feces to basically nothing prepping takes time you don’t want to be caught without anything like matches that won’t absorb water if they get wet by a mistake or forgetting to put crayons and coloring books in the kids go bag. Littles things like that will eventually mean a lot.

You can boost the nutritional value of the ramen by adding a well beaten raw egg after you have the ramen cooked and hot; you can further add variety and nutrition with some of those canned veggies, and a huge boost in flavor with a bit of sesame oil.

If you have a small apartment you definitely have big closets. Which is wonderful. It was a good idea to transform that closet to a pantry and it makes a good size pantry that’s for sure. 👍

Good to see you again! 🎉 I live in a condo. I have two closets in my bedroom and, like you, converted the larger one into my prep pantry. I took out the pre-existing shelving and put two freestanding metal shelving units in there to get maximum use of space. If you’re in a smaller space you have no choice but to make the most out of all space including vertical. I love your start and hope you share updates on your progress!

I love that they are temporarily in an apartment. So many people in apartments think they can't prep or garden. Hopefully this will encourage people to realize you don't need to be on a ten acre homestead to prepare.

So glad to see a prepping video again! Like you, I also started forgetting about my preps and got caught up in the excitement of every day life. Now seeing everything happening in the world has brought me back to the prepping world. You guys were one of my top resources back in 2020 when I started my prepping journey. It's go time! Keep up the hard work and keep your family prepared!

Government shut down. We glad we prepped far before COVID. Paid off our CC. Stocked up on enough FOOD. Our concern this mortgage plus water storage..... We stocked up on enough toilet paper. Prices are outrageous.

Consider getting a 50 gal pickle barrel or 2. They stack nice and the entire lid comes off to fill and get water. If you fill it with city water that’s already been treated you don’t need to add bleach. But it’s potable. By the way, I also have the water-bob which is the same as yours for the bathtub. It’s good enough to drink out of as potable water. I also used a walk in closet when we lived in a manufactured home and we stored food in a friend’s basement. We got them started in prepping because of our food and items that we stored in their basement. We also stocked a big armoire in our living room with food. No one ever knew

@peggyharris7419 Thanks so much for that idea about the armoire. We are deep cleaning around my mom's. That is a great use of the armoire as the TV isn't in there anymore. I lucked up on some under shelf baskets for 75 cents each. I was just about get a couple from Walmart for $15.

Thank you for mentioning Mackerel, I see it here in Australia and it’s cheaper than salmon. I will stick some in my pantry next 😊

Your story sounds similar to my family's. We sold everything in 2019/2020 and lived in an RV but now we moved to NC and live in a small apartment while we're trying to purchase a home.
