Hey, Fam! We are off to a decent start, but we can't slow down. We've got about 45 days to get our small apartment preppers pantry together before the winter threats. Let's go to Aldi's!

I just found your channel and are with you 100%. We are in our 80’s and have converted out guest room closet into a food closet! We have two small raised beds and grow, can, dehydrate, and freeze as much as we can. We just counted 265 rolls of toilet paper in our attic so you could say we are prepared. Winter is coming and Covid is making a comeback. We learn so much from each other and having you there is wonderful!

Awesome!!! I too employed every means to "put aside" everything I can. I put those large cans of freeze dry food underneath my bed. It works for me. And it does not bother me that they are there. I also Can food, dehydrate, dry can, freeze etc...God bless be well. LAURA M

Some tips: don’t forget dental and foot care, Hygiene products and medical kits. Batteries and lights. Our rule of thumb is back up for the back ups. Have 3 different ways to do Everything in case one method fails. Recently purchased a self charger kit for the SUV. Also, food grade buckets are fine, but after an experience where field mice chewed through our dog’s heavy duty plastic food container, inside our kitchen -(we live in the suburbs and mice came in through a small hole under the stove), we had to re-think storage. Have most of our dry goods including dog food, inside Mylar bags stored in a simple galvanized steel trash can with tight fitting lid. Trust, the can holds a lot and takes up far less space.

Hello! I'm an almost 70 and live in a small one bedroom apartment. Along with a full pantry, I grow lettuce and other greens on a small hydroponic setup. I have a pepper plant in soil and a tomato plant in a grow tent. Even very small places can keep a respectable pantry.

✍Hello Pegi and Don... Came across your channel looking for something to watch. I'm 78 and a widow and my mom and grandma always kept a pantry. You said when you were young you asked but didn't understand why they canned so many beans etc. Well my grandma said during the depression they never had to worry about going hungry like so many did also she said she and her neighbor friends would trade maybe a jar of home made jelly or jams for home made pickles or whatever and she would make quilts and use old sweatshirts for the stuffing in the quilts and they didn't have to worry being cold. A lot of people have their heads buried in the sand not preparing but complaining. I live in a Senior mobile home park and definitely don't have room for extra storage but my grown daughter (59 who lives with me) and I have found a few places to store things in storage tubs. Pegi you are so blessed to still have your husband Don cause not having a man to help do the heavy work is really a challenge. Right now my daughter (thank goodness she's creative and not afraid of hard work) is starting to feel her age cause she has many serious health issues and does as much as she can for me. I usually am able to work beside her just like I did with my husband of 42 years but he's been gone now 19 years but I'm dealing now for about 8 months an acute case of Sciatica so I've not been able to help her with the new shed and no man to help or to hire. She's had some good ideas for our storage needs. I've really enjoyed your very helpful video tonight. Aldi brands are good but you might want to buy one can of Aldi corned beef first. Good Night😴 God Bless Bye from Ohio🌹

Aldi is good. Especially for non perishables and condiments and sauces, I hate spending too much on sauces and seasonings. Great to see you guys making use of a small space to store food. I have very minimal space to work with as well. Doing what you can with what you have is what it’s all about. Prices on food have gotten scary. I’m more picky about what I buy now. If I don’t really want it or if I don’t like the price, I just keep on walking. They need to see people won’t fall for their foolishness and hopefully bring those prices back down again. We will have to see :)

Don and Pegi, I like the shelf addition! Apartments are usually okay with hanging shelves, tv's, pictures, ect.. as long as you patch the holes before you leave. Suggestion on food grade buckets. I would get mine from Sams Club bakery for free for two years . Then they caught on to what people were doing with the buckets, and stopped giving them out. I think most companies have caught on because the food grade buckets are pricey. Now, I go to Tractor Supply and get their 5 gallon food grade buckets with the gamma lids. Each are sold seperately. When storing food, I would get bins that would fit under my bed. I store my canning jars of food under the bed in the bins just in case a jar cracked. If your bed is not tall enough use bed risers. I have even used file size bins to store cans/boxes of food in. Then stacked two file size bins on top of one another, and cover the bins with a flat twin sheet slide the bins next to your bed to make night stands. These are two ways I used in my apartment for storing food. I would also use a fruit/veggie caddy (the type that has 3 baskets connected by chains) hang it in my closet to hold small items like box of tea, tooth paste.....

If you have a large grocery store near that has a bakery section, the ones that make cakes and sell them. Ask them if you can have their frosting buckets. If they can, most will give them to you for free!! Also check smaller bakeries. You can use them for bulk storage, drill holes for planting a garden on a balcony and even store water. These buckets are food grade!! Let us know if you are success with this. If you have food pantries in your area know as well. Many would benefit from free bulk storage!

I am so happy you two are back on this channel doing pantry stuff! I have missed y'all!!! Inflation is insane and I do not see any hope for things changing anytime soon. Mayo is over $5.00 a quart here in Louisiana! And it's not really something you can stock up a lot because the shelf life is not long. Last year we turned an unused guest room into a huge "home grocery store"! Not only is it stocked with store bought food, I have been canning meats, potatoes, chili, soup, jam, and more than I care to type, lol. I believe we have a year's supply of most food. We buy bulk from Azure Standard. Wheat berries, flour, sugar, honey, cheese, oils, coffee............Check them out. They are the #1 best place in America to buy food and household supplies.

Its best served with fried egg and/or pickled beetroot. Super simple emergency food but tgis food was very common to eat 40 years ago and i still make this meal beacuse its so good :)

I’ve missed your prepping videos ever since you got the RV. I ended up giving my 1 year emergency non food preps and my 3 month emergency canned foods to my mom due to my stepdad, her and out of my 3 siblings, 2 of them all got COVID. She was grateful when I did it because she said that it was hard for them to get things because they were in quarantine and at first, on top of them at least the only other relatives that could have helped them ended up getting COVID too, it was hard to help them since my husband, son and I live in Georgia and they live in New York. But not only did I find a way to give her all my preps, I had also shipped her a box of all these cleaning and sanitizing products just in case I couldn’t get her my prep in time. Long story short before I gave her all my preps i remember my husband and my family back home at first called me crazy for starting an emergency prep stockpile because I had started it all about a year before COVID started but then once they saw everything I had actually helped them since New York was hit hard with COVID she said a lot of places were sold out, had a limit on a lot of stuff and would ask friends to help her when they found certain things. They thought I was crazy but realized that my preps actually came in handy.

Don’t you have to keep the generator outside? I also 2 freezers. I was couponing when my son was young. But since I’ve lost my way, now I’m trying to get back.

@@Tilas8 Yes the generator stays outside. We have a shed in the backyard, so it stays in there until we need it. We have a couple of super long cords to run from outside to our deep freezer in the garage. We survived hurricane Harvey and last winter's storm. That generator pulled the T.V, the gas fireplace, and 2 refrigerators

Don't forget safe drinkable water which is the most critical item that everyone needs a minimum of 1 gallon a day per person for rehydration of food, the body and hygiene. I discovered a USA company DryElement that sells probably the best gravity fed water filtration system in the world and its under $200.00. Their products are made in America and the Green Nano Gravity Filter is amazing. Also, they sell a long term water treatment solution that allows you to store fresh water for years.

I bought some Stainless Steel storage shelves at Target. They work great for small closets. And I keep packages of noodles and beans in STERILITE containers with the locking sides. Unless you are dumping opened food into the buckets, they don’t HAVE to be Food Grade.

If you have a Costco nearby ask their bakery for the frosting buckets. Our Costco gives them to us for free if you ask for them.

This is the truth!! I have a prep pantry and my goodness, I'm so glad I have what I have because as I add to it, it's so much more expensive!! I'm with Pegi. My parents and grandparents did it. They were the original preppers. It's definitely inflation proof.

It wasn't till after I married and was around my husband's family. That I ever heard of keeping a pantry or canning or pressure canning. I started a small pantry in a small cabinet and a large box. And slowly grew it from there. I can't tell you how many times that pantry saved us through many storms. Job loss and many other things.😊

The buckets at Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight are food grade, even though it doesn’t say food grade. The numbers on the back are the same as food grade buckets. If you go to most of your grocery store bakery’s, they will give you their frosting buckets. If you go to some of your sandwich shops they will sale them to you for $3.
