I’ve got an Everest at the moment and having similar issues with GCM and specifically rear axle load. Be wary of how your ball weight relates to rear axle load - I had my setup professionally weighed last week and my ball weight at 260kg was putting an additional 35-40% onto the rear axle due to the lever effect, with airbags at 35psi. Your constant load springs will probably help, but be wary of the markup on your ball weight by the time it hits the rear axle.

@@callandavies6273 Hey Callan Cheers for watching. Your 100% correct. I did a 1-1 correlation when doing the numbers in the vid. I should have mentioned the increase above the ball weight being transferred from the front axle. I don't have the weights down to that granular detail yet but we will have enough wiggle room with our current setup.
@shaunobrien6641
@shaunobrien6641 Жыл бұрын
You'll love that car. Just a note on ballweight, it will add way more to the axle than the actual ball weight due to leverage and the weight shift front to rear as the weight goes on. On my Crusier, with GVM upgrade 300kg ball weight added 400kg to rear axle
@RoaminintheRobbo
@RoaminintheRobbo Жыл бұрын
Hey Shaun Failing to include/mention the weight transfer from the front axle was a huge oversight on my behalf. We have plenty of wiggle room with our current setup, but will need to pay closer attention if/when we upgrade to a heavier trailer. Cheers for watching.

A great choice congratulations guys ,we love our 200 series 2018. We tow 2.5 agm max van have watch 1950 kg rear axle max easy to exceed with the 2150 kg you will be OK GCM wise no issues. We have 3650 kg upgrade gvm we are ok tight on the rear axle with 250 kg TBW. I have a Donaldson PowerCore replacement air cleaner ordered. They appear to have much better filtration than the factory unit.

Hey Ian, cheers for watching. The 200's are certainly an awesome ride, and we can't fault ours yet. It's good to see someone else on top of weights etc. I'd bet loads of rigs out there exceed their limits and are none the wiser. I too, have a power core on order and will be fitting it as soon as it arrives. Thanks again mate, safe travels!

Hey mate, how did you find the ride quality after the GVM upgrade? We have a 2020 Sahara and one of the things we love about it compared to the Navara we used to have is how comfortable the ride is. The Navara wasn't bad either, until we upgraded the GVM which made it hilariously uncomfortable when unloaded.
@iandibley8032
@iandibley8032 8 ай бұрын
@andrewfinch1789 hi Andrew The ride quality is still good ,I went for 200kg rear coil springs, and the Cruiser & van both sit nice and level. I was concerned that 400kg would be too harsh. The gvm was Arb Oldman Emu, has done 50k no issues

@@RoaminintheRobbo Mate you guys inspire us, I am an ex truckie owner driver, having just bought a van 2000kg, to go behind our 129 prado, van is dual axle, ball weight ot 130kg with full water tanks, and gas, we have 360kg left, and well under on rear axle of car.... The weight also effects steering and stopping, not many think of this, at 100kmh that is just over 26m per second travel, so times that by weight, there is your safe stopping distance from 100, very scary to take about 250m to stop!!!!

Great video guys, most people forget about the 150 kgs of fuel in the tank and a lot of families are a lot heavier than you guys. We purchased our 200 new in 2020 and got the Sahara because it was the only model that came with the Toyota safety sense. It’s a beautiful car and we expect to have it for many years to come. If you look on Aliexpress they have so many things to upgrade you car eg you can get the phone charger that goes in the lower compartment of the centre stack. In the upper tailgate there is a plastic square. You can get a light to fit in that opening and it’s plug and play, it just hooks into an existing harness. Cheers, Stuart. Canberra.

Hey Staurt. Cheers for watching. We love it so far, and it tows like a dream. Like you, we intend to keep it for many years. Thanks for the tip for upgrades. I've looked into the tailgate light, but unfortunately, with the gxl, I'll need to run a power cable. Where as with the Sahara, you can just tap into the powered tailgate function. Craig

@@RoaminintheRobbo Hi Craig, thanks for taking the time to respond. That a bit disappointing for you. We would have been happy with the GXL but I explained our reasoning re the Sahara as we were nearly killed in a high speed head on accident and safety was our number one priority. It’s really good that the previous owner of your car upgraded to Apple car play as the original unit is the shittest navigation system ever and that includes the Sahara. I use my phone for navigation. I really like your videos as you guys are real and so down to earth, I love it. Looking forward to seeing your travels in the new car. Cheers guys, Stu.

@Scrounga’s Workshop oh gosh Stu that is terrible, must of been very scary for you and the family! Completely understand why you would want top safety in your car. The Sahara's look amazing! @@RoaminintheRobbo Thanks so much, To me all the models look very similar it’s just the amount of junk on the inside. There isn’t one spare/ unused switch on the panels. You’re right, he accident wasn’t much fun and we’ll both have some permanent injuries, not that people would notice thankfully, but it certainly gave us a better perspective on what’s important to us. We also feel extremely lucky that we can continue on with our lives as the two drug users in the car that hit us were both killed. We really do enjoy and appreciate every day and are very happy with our lives. I’ve just turned 60 for reference and have been retired for 7 years. Happy travels guys and I hope you’re enjoying life. Cheers Stu.

Gorgeous!!! Love your opening music and how you presented the new car. Love it Love it love it! We had to get a towable rig because we wanted to go from a trailer to a Class A Rv but we did not have the heart to get rid of our Toyota Tundra we love it too much so we bought a little jeep to tow and kept the Toyota too. We believe Toyotas can last forever our Lexus we gave to our daughter is at about 230,000 now still going strong and our other Lexus was the same. SOLID CHOICE and it's Beautiful and will tow well!! Great calculations make sure you always have enough weight for beer and wine!!! Ron weighs the rig sometimes just for fun!! Love my Geek!!!

I have been having payload issues with my Ram 2500 (4,500 kg GVWR) for the last 8 years (the truck is a 2011). I sold it while the market was high in September and had a 2022 F450 (6,350 kg GVWR) order in until it was converted to a 2023 in October. Who knows when I will get it.

10% ball weight should be the absolute minimum. Anywhere from 10% to 15% will keep you stable at highway speed. For heavy trailers a bed mounted hitch is so much nicer to tow with.

Hey Rich, I've found that with our new set-up that the 10% ball weight feels really solid. I have the ability to slightly adjust the download depending on how we load the camper...water tanks etc . Maybe I'll run a couple of tests to see how it goes.

@@RoaminintheRobbo I have had a sway issue twice and both times were in the same spot east of Denver on I-70. The sway started due to cross winds and I was towing about 14k lbs/6,350 kg in a 30' enclosed trailer on a conventional class 5 hitch with my Ram. I stopped and adjusted the load and the problem was fixed, but it scared the hell out of me. I know that Europe specs ball weight at 7% and gets away with it by limiting tow vehicle speed and having very low max. trailer weight on a standard license. We can run as fast as any other traffic (up to 85 mph in parts of Texas) with a 26,000 lb combination weight on a standard license (38 states have RV exemptions to this law which allows you to run up to freeway maximum for recreational/non-commercial use - usually 80,000 lbs) so 7% would cause carnage.
