Sorry, but no. An amazing vet is aside you when your animals are sick. Amazing vets travel to their customers, they call you to say that they will be around. They know they get paid for the care they offer, not for the meds they are selling. All in all, Jake and Becky need a frequent visiting vet. A caretaker, someone who loves animals, not just fixing issues when it's quite late. -- Do you recall how long Jake already had described i.e. the problems with the white peacocks? So how come the vet wasn't there before? Not on me to drop moods. I easily could simply watch and shut up, like most of the subscribers... The simple problem is that even I am suffering watching this from 6,000mls away. Maybe Jake didn't say it all, maybe it's the same as it's here, where you really have to SEEK for vets, who are doing this job because of the love they have for animals, instead of the greed on becoming insanely rich by ripping of the owners of their pets... I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, just wondering where it leads to if we just pay what vets are requesting from us while they didn't succeed. I excuse myself for such a terrific request. I know the rule is to be always mellow... "Everything's gonna be ok!" Tell this to your pet, when you turn it over into the hands of a vet, that makes you as the owner hope, but delivers you the leftover body of your beloved pet, attaching some bill...

You are armed with the knowledge to manage things much better, and you know of a vet who can and will care for your birds should you need their assistance again.

My condolences for your loss. As a Vet Tech Student, I would recommend doing the poop test for the rest of the birds, and possibly treating the soil now that Winger has already been buried there, as the ova or eggs of these intestinal parasites can live dormant in the soil for years. Ideally, cremation and burial after is better to prevent remnant disease from spreading. I hope you guys never have to deal with something like this again. Hate to say it, but their bird's injury is most likly their own fault. How they handle their bird it is easy for their wing to get caught on the cage and as he just pulls him out... It would easily break their wing. Someone on the last video pointed it out.

Because there wasn’t an avian vet “handy.” They had to drive an hour to get to the one that did the surgery. How would he have known that there was an avian vet an hour away?

@@avksmith I really don’t think that they were very experienced with birds before they got the poultry. I’m with you and definitely have an avian vet and a reptile vet and a dog vet. I know from experience (as you likely do as well) that not all vets are created equally and a specialist who is used to handling and working with the species we keep are worth their weight in gold. I think that they went into keeping poultry without much background for sure. And country farmers have to learn how to do many things themselves that we would bring our animals to the vet for. Add that to the fact that most of the poultry that farmers keep aren’t pets… Some are more knowledgeable for sure but I don’t think that most farmers go through the researching that you or I have done. The interest and the amount of time they have for research definitely isn’t the same as mine. Also I automatically test any exotics for parasites the very first thing. I can’t imagine having poultry and not knowing about poultry mites, lice, internal parasites etc. That should be Poultry 101, if you know what I mean.

But yeah a lot of people get into it without knowing all that much. It’s a different and more risky approach than what I tend to do but yup, it happens all the time. I actually haven't even heard about avian vets until I became interested in parrots. In my (small European) country you just get a chicken or any other bird and if something happens you either fix it on your own or you let it die. So I'm not surprised they didn't have an avian vet

im so sorry for your loss, and im glad you were able to get them vet treatment. it might be worth testing across your entire bird population to see if this was an isolated cause with the internal parasites or more of a widespread issue for your flocks. i think you needed to have been a little clearer or have had it earlier in the video that the wing inury had potentially happened on the farm, and that this was a more likely instance based on the newer vets opinion. you were very lucky the vet went through with the proceedure given the previous videos and i think you really have to give a public apology to the previoous vet. also the environmentalist in me says that bag you buried the peacock in is going to exist in the ground for hundreds of years and you really should have buried the bird straight in the ground. its not only an environmental hazard but being that shallow a grave theres a chance wildlife and your future bird residents of the area can dig that up and ingest the plastic. overall though yaall definitly did the best you could. and i hope you take onboard all the lessons youve learnt.

What is being missed, regardless of whether the deceased bird is in an _environmentally unfriendly trash bag or not,_ the carcass should NOT have been buried anywhere near where other animals of any species are allowed to roam. Since the Adults decided to bring the bird home, *the body should have been burned to protect the flocks.*

So sad little Winger passed away, but at least he's no longer in pain. Glad you were able to learn and grow from the experience. It's so hard losing a beloved bird, especially when they seem so close to pulling through. I've had my fair share of heartbreak with my birds and it's never easy. Shout out to the avian vet (and all avian vets). There is such a shortage of them in the world and they really do put their hearts and souls into caring for their patients as best they can with very little reward. Your vet seems like no exception and I can tell just by the quality toys and items they had at the front of their practice that they're very well versed in exotic bird care. She's definitely a keeper! Not sure if anyone already mentioned this to you, but in the future, at least for disease blood testing of exotic birds, you can save a ton of time and money by using a mail-in disease testing service (e.g. BirdIQ). You collect the samples yourself at home in the environment the bird is most comfortable in. BirdIQ provides instructions on how to do this and I know there are other labs out there as well. It's a very easy process and much cheaper than going through the vet. Best of luck on any future peacock adventures and give Blue lots of extra love. 🦚

I wanted to thank you for sharing Winger's story. I don't have any peacocks but I do have chickens. I had no idea about the mites or lice until I watched your videos. I had noticed my chickens losing feathers more than their usual molt. I have one named Fuss britches who I noticed was almost totally bald and her waddle is flopping over and she was secluding away from the rest of the flock. I looked up info about the mites and lice and lice is the issue. I cleaned the coop and treated the nesting boxes with permethin and DE and I also dusted her with Sevin dust and DE. She is already feeling better and venturing back out with the flock. I'm so thankful for your videos. I feel Winger's life was not in vain. His purpose was fulfilled by educating y'all and your viewers. He was a very special bird. Godspeed Winger.

So let's see if I got this right. You have two different kinds of external parasites endemic in your entire bird population, three kinds of internal parasites of which two are directly deadly on their own, you didn't notice your bird had a broken wing until the bone was sticking out and badly infected, and waited until you were down to one living bird in group of 7 before you thought to even investigate why? And even then you didn't even think to do a close enough visual examination to discover the lice? If you were keeping birds in my country this would be criminal negligence.

7 of those poor peachicks dead. It's devestating. This feels like a horror show watching how negletful and ignorant they are of taking care of exotic birds (or just birds in general considering their chickens were covered in lice and mites too)

Not to mention they accused a vet of breaking their bird’s wing on video. They’re lucky the first vet practice hasn’t sued them. No wonder the avian vet didn’t want to be filmed. But honestly I’m just horrified by the total lack of any poultry husbandry knowledge, to the point that you have to wonder if they’ve ever so much as googled it. I’ve lost chickens to red mite and you know, as with any sudden death I investigate EVERYTHING until I have a cause of death to make sure it’s not something that will hurt other birds. See a death, find out it’s mites, treat every bird and all the coops etc. it took them FIVE MONTHS to as much as NOTICE their birds were dying of a common bird parasite. Nearly half a year. I was sticking around to see the aviary finished as inspiration for some of my own birds but this is a horror show and has been for some time now.

They may have been bad for losing the sample, but they didn't critically injure the poor bird like all their viewers were led to believe. This family farm shouldn't be making videos unless they're teaching proper husbandry, because people see them & assume their knowledgeable just because they have followers.

They didn't notice any of the parasites, didn't notice the wing that was most likely already broken, didn't order the tests they said they would, and lost the samples. Also took on a rather complicated case despite only ever having handled a couple of birds ever before, which was clearly outside of their competence. In my opinion, just the fact that they missed two kinds of external parasites would warrant a report to the licensing board.

This poor bird. At least you know it didn't happen at the first vet's office if the injury was older than that. You might want to look into practices that may have led to the break to begin with and see if you can't improve your protocols. So sorry for your loss. It's never easy to lose any kind of pet.

The only thing you can do from stuff like this is be thankful for all the experience and knowledge you have gained. Learn from the losses and be thankful for the experience. I' m very sorry that you and Winger had to go through all of this, but you and the vet, were between a rock and a hard place with no where to turn. Even though you lost Winger, I’m glad you at least found that wonderful vet; she obviously did her absolute best and if you ever need a vet for any of your other birds, I’m sure she’ll be there for you. It’s also great that the fecal sample was found and tested; it was too late to save Winger and his family but you’ll know what to do going forward if you get more peafowl. I am so sorry for your loss. Please take the halter off of Poppy before turning her loose. It is known to be very dangerous to turn horses and foals out with halters on, and I’m sure calves are no different. I don’t want to see you lose her to a preventable accident.

My heart goes out too you, your family, and the lovely white peacock, Winger, you had. The vet seems like they tried to save him and I thank them for trying. It's all you can do sometimes. I've got a female lovebird that's sick with the flu but I have almost no options in my area for a bird vet so I completely understand the struggle you went through. I think I've also learned a lot from following Winger's story. I now know how to treat my own chickens if I ever need too.

Go back and take that bird out of the plastic bag. Plant some type of safe fruit bearing small bush on top of him. He can feed the plant. Hindsight says you shouldn't put an infected bird in an area where you will have future birds. You never know what might survive, but you can believe that plastic will be there 4ever.

The bird should’ve been cremated and then ashes buried. It’s going to infect the flock once they’re all put in the aviary, unless cement is being poured in there 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have food poisoning and I’ve been up all night throwing up. But I couldn’t resist following through this story. You guys tried you best and found a very nice vet who was willing to do everything possible to save him. Though this isn’t the outcome we all would like at least he’s no longer suffering. And if there is any silver lining, his death wasn't in vain. You now have so much information to protect your birds in future, and you also have connections with professionals who can help you in the future if you need it.

Yeah, never to take the advise from youtube commentators and take the animal to the vet. The original vet horribly mangled the bird and it took him over a month later and haggling to even find another to do basic service.

@@YujiUedaFan Have you ever worked on a farm? Or owned a farm? I don’t, but I come from a family of farmers and have farmer friends, and most take care of their own birds and other animals for most things, and don’t involve a vet unless there’s something major that happens that warrants the (usually considerable) cost. Even then it can be really difficult to find a vet to treat anything that isn’t a small furry pet. A friend had a cow she loved but had to put down because she couldn’t find a vet who would come out and help her where her farm is. There had been one but she retired and nobody took her place. Plus, vets are expensive. Where I am a check-up is $50-75 per animal. I don’t know what the cost is in Missouri but no doubt it isn’t cheap. Multiply that by so many animals and you’ll see why farmers as a rule only go to a vet when absolutely necessary, and thus why it’s hard to find specialty vets who can treat birds, etc. Winger’s surgery probably cost into the hundreds, if not well over $1000. So when I say they did the best they could with the information they had at each stage, I mean it.
