Thanks Lynn and Hans for the plant tour. I always enjoy seeing all your plants and learn so much from you. I was going to transplant my succulents but you said it wasn't a good time of year to do that and you were going to wait till the spring. So, I'm going to follow your example even though it's early fall, waiting to the spring as well. Thanks for the tip!!! Loads of love guys!

I think layered shelving will definitely be a good idea to make a wonderful display for all your plants on the table. Even layered benches for the ones on the ground. It seems like your hubby is quite handy so that would make a good project for him to do. That's what my husband will be making for me next spring for my succulent collection, I'm so looking forward to it! Actually, he is also excited to building it for me 😄😀

Also Lyn, are you going to leave your Echinocactus grussonii in the polytunnel over winter? I don't know why really but I always thought they were more cold sensitive than other cacti so I always brought them inside over the the winter. It would be handy to know if they could stay outside though because I am very limited for window space in my house.
@desertplantsofavalon7 жыл бұрын
haha yes there is now definitely room for a few more haha :-D I was wonderfing about the Echinocactus grusonnii too as some webpages it says they are cold hardy and other pages it says they are not, but I think because we are going to be keeping the Polytunnel at a minimum of 3-4c ( possibly higher depending on the cost haha ) it should be ok at that temperature :-D the Echinocactus grusonnii I have I bought from a garden centre in cornwall near St Ives they grew their grusonnii's outside on a sloping rock cliff and the guy said they leave them there all winter, so fingers crossed I think they should be ok :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching Chris and sending an abundance of love and happiness and heaps of PLANT POWER from Belfast to Limerick for a TERRIFIC Sunday XXXX

A wonderful tour, lovely to see most of your joint collection under one roof so to speak...an emotional journey but also a rewarding one. Well done guys, take a break! You deserve it. Look forward to lots of future tours and advice. Also, do you have a video on care and temps for Hans’ Stephanotis Floribunda? I have one that went mad outside in the summer and unsure what to do with it now as getting quite cold here in Surrey Brrrr x
@desertplantsofavalon7 жыл бұрын
So happy you loved the tour Fiona :-D we haven't a video on the care for Stephanotis floribunda but ideally they like to be kept in the Winter warmer than the cacti at a minimum temperature between 10-15c / 50- 60F and kept more on the drier side and in a bright but not necessarily sunny position :-D we will be bringing in our plant inside from the Polytunnel to overwinter indoors in the next week or two as it will be too cold in the polytunnel for it :-D its best to bring in your plant in the next couple of weeks indoors, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending an abundance of love and happiness and heaps of PLANT POWER from right right across the Emerald Isle for a TERRIFIC Sunday XXXX

Anyway, the tour was awesome and I m happy to see everything went so well! Have an awesome and sunny Thursday Edit: the one at 18:40 is not a Tillandsia but a Tradescantia spatacea I think ( but I m not totally sure ) and at 18:54 the one you could not remember at the time is a Beaucarnea recurvata. And what kind is the spineless kind at 16:19 it is such a beauty!

It actually looks better than your previous greenhouse. Just hope it lasts. Makes me wish i had one of these, not to rely on shelves and windows. Also, you got any experience with cordyline plants?
@gazepskotzs47 жыл бұрын
I own several Cordylines , no special kinds just the red and green ones ( C.australis ) which one do you have?
@cactusmann55427 жыл бұрын
Red australis, and 2 fruticosa hybrids(choclate queen and rainbow). I put the australis together with 2 types of trandescatia spathacea . Wanted to ask because its growing slowly and wasnt sure if it was a mistake or natural. The fruticosa cholocate queen dried out all the old leaves and sprouted new ones and a ofshoot. Im not use thats normal as well
@gazepskotzs47 жыл бұрын
Tradescantia spathacea and Cordyline should go wel together, but about the dried leaves on the C. fruticosa I really have no clue , except for maybe dry air or spider mites . For example; my Adeniums can show negative effects from spider mites long before they are remotely visible. Perhaps you could check them with a magnifying glass, that works for me most of the time. Have an awesome weekend dude!

So, i should prune the old dry fruitcosa laves. I thought so. Thanks. BTW, does your cordyline austrails red grow slow?
@gazepskotzs47 жыл бұрын
No problem. Yeah, I would prune them too, about growing slow: during summer they grow rather quick and the rest of the year the almost grow not at all.

Hi Patti :-D ideally its best to overwinter Cacti and Succulents no lower than 7c / 48F but it can be very costly so we will be fully insulating the plants with extra fleece and bubble wrap and keeping a bare minimum of 4c and bringing in the plants that need higher winter temps such as the Pilosocereus and some of the other Succulents :-D depending on the species growing an overall minimum of between 4-7c is the best, some cacti can take lower temperatures than this if kept completely dry, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending an abundance of love and happiness and heaps of PLANT POWER from right right across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX

how do you deal with bugs like fungus gnats and other bugs with that many babies?
@desertplantsofavalon6 жыл бұрын
Fungus gnats are such a pain in the butt LOL! thankfully I rarely get them since switching to using mostly a loam based soil instead of peat based but when I do get them I usually use a systemic insecticide you water into the soil to kill the larvae that do the most damage to the roots, thanks so much Leatha for watching and your wonderful comment and sending lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER your way XXXX
