I think Magnussen's first penalty for cutting the chicane was bullshit, and while I understand that 10 seconds is the standard this season in order to more strongly deter drivers, giving him a 10-second penalty for that without even so much as a warning demonstrates the problem with this kind of punishment. From that point on, Magnussen knew his race was screwed regardless, so of course he's going defend aggressively, as further penalties are meaningless. This is what happens when you make such knee-jerk ruling decisions. Contrary to being a deterrent, it only encourages more aggressive driving.

For everyone saying "Alonso and Stroll made contact before Hamilton even arrived, you can't blame Hamilton": Alonso saw Hamilton coming in like a torpedo, so he did his best to move out of the way and avoid damage. Stroll and Norris were unfortunately on his outside, so he drove into Stroll. Hamilton sent such a ridiculous divebomb that even Alonso driving into his own teammate wasn't enough, and he crashed into Alonso. Which sent him into Stroll yet again and took out Norris. If Alonso didn't do all that and hugged the inside like he probably wanted to, Hamilton would just drive into the back of him and send him bowling. Alonso quite possibly saved all 4 of those cars (and probably even others nearby) from being completely demolished. And after all that, Hamilton got no penalty... maFIA

Hamilton rarely gets penalties for taking out drivers on track.
@f.kieranfinney4574 ай бұрын
K-Mag maybe didn’t deserve one of those penalties but he IS by FAR the most entertaining driver every race. If Nico hadn’t left, Magnussen would be out next year as they’re certainly bringing Bearman up for 2025. I wonder if they might still bin him because he’s just not fast enough, especially in qualifying. And yet he gets more TV time for Haas by a mile.

@JayJayGamerOfficial4 ай бұрын
You can't really say Alonso messed up since he was trying to avoid conflict with Hamilton who sent that insane torpedo on the inside when stroll was turning in. If stroll held off for even a second alonso still would have been hit by Hamilton and lando would have easily avoided stroll son E T1 L1 everyone knows to watch the car on your inside and react to what they do.

Yeah Lance was in a bit of a lose/lose scenario there. He basically had to choose between getting to close to Norris or Alonso, and a divebomb reminiscent of Pearl Harbour was the catalyst. It’s his 1st lap 1 retirement I think since 2021 so I’m not going to blast him for it.

I'm going to defend Hamilton's turn 1 move a little here and point out that Stroll squeezed Alonso into Hamilton. If you look at the onboard, Alonso actually saw Hamilton (his awareness is just unreal) and was trying to take a wider line into T1, but Stroll turns right into him with zero awareness whatsoever. Stroll makes contact with Alonso BEFORE he even touches Hamilton, which then pushes Alonso into Hamilton who then pushes him back into Stroll. The move was still overly ambitious for T1, for sure. But it's not the slam dunk penalty everyone is making it out to be. Without Stroll there doing Stroll things, Alonso would most likely have avoided Hamilton just fine. It's more a 60/40 on Stroll/Hamilton, with Alonso and Norris being the unfortunate victims. Pretty sure Alonso would have made contact with Stroll even without Hamilton barging down the inside with how sharply he cut across him.
@Br0k3nLiNk4 ай бұрын
Yea Stroll and Alonso had made contact before Hamilton joined in. As you said if Stroll didn't squeeze Alonso like the blind idiot he has proven to be, I think they'd of all survived.

Hammy was going to hit someone…..just a matter of who. He had no chance of turning.
@Razor9214 ай бұрын
@@TheMikelleh Very possible, but that's not how it played out and the stewards can't make decisions based on what ifs. The way it played out was Stroll pushed Alonso into Hamilton who then pushed him back into Stroll who then got pushed into Norris. Multiple cars were involved with two predominantly being at fault, hence it's seen as a Lap 1, Turn 1 incident. If Hamilton had just barged in on his own and smashed into Alonso, he'd absolutely have gotten penalized.

@@TheMikelleh Please look at Alonso's onboard again. He looks in his mirrors, sees Hamilton, stays out of his way and then bam, Stroll cuts in front of him and squeezes him right into Hamilton. And I want to once again reiterate, the stewards can only act based on what happened, not on what ifs. I'm not saying Hamilton did nothing wrong, I'm saying he can't get a penalty because Stroll already made contact with Alonso first and the stewards aren't in a position to say "yeah well but WHAT IF?". That's not how the rules work.

Think about what your saying. Stroll got hit and then went into Norris. So you're saying be should have deliberately turned into Norris to avoid his teammate? But it was really Hamilton to blame.

And even though K-Mag looks like the bad guy in a way, doing it its very very tough, and you have to be a very good driver to do it, to hold that pressure and defending with everything you've got, not everyone could do it, even if you are crossing the lines sometimes.
