@tonywilson4713Ай бұрын
It wasn't just the shift to McLaren. He was clearly being given the shaft at Red Bull when they started to favor Max the same way they had favored Vettel over Weber. So he went for a better deal. Had he gone to Ferrari he would have got that better ride and instead went to Renault and then to McClaren which were both basket cases. He wasn't the first driver to screw up like that as even Vettel and Alonso made similar career stifling decisions. Sadly as an Australian (and I hate to say it) but his time in F1 is over and he needs to find something else. Weber found a home in sports cars and did win a world championship. Maybe Daniel will find a place somewhere where his talent can be used.

Daniel should never have left Red Bull at the end of 2018. He could've stayed there, took the number 2 status in a top team and grabbed many more wins, could even have been in 3 title fights. All his momentum was lost when he dropped down to midfield Renault. It's sad to see a once amazing driver get the axe, but he has lost his mojo, he is past his peak, and Lawson is the better driver for RB right now with a higher potential. It's cruel, but Daniel would say it himself "F1 is cruel, the pinnacle of motorsport is all about survival of the fittest and strongest". Sorry to see you go Daniel, you are an incredible guy, good luck and I hope to see you racing again soon wherever that may be.
@mikii2001Ай бұрын
He was good in Renault, had a team built around him, and his departure started the drain at Enstone. Maybe the Gasly’s way (leading the midfield, with some potential to win like in 2021) would suit him better than all of this.

His first mistake was leaving Red Bull for Renault in 2018, his second (and arguably bigger) mistake was leaving Renault for McLaren just to get a bigger paycheck. It seems that Jacques Villeneuve was correct all along. I don't have any affection for Daniel. Red Bull gave him multiple opportunities to show that he still has the talent in exchange for his loyalty. It's about time they gave Lawson a chance to compete. It's a joke that Red Bull let Danny go in such a manner. The rumors swirling around the paddock about his seat were overwhelming, and some kind of official statement was needed to put them to rest. Not only was Crofty talking about his likely exit throughout the entire race, but SkyF1 even aired a highlight reel of his best moments in the sport-without any confirmation that he's actually leaving! Overall, it was an awkward and unnecessary situation, which only adds more pressure on Liam if he ends up taking that seat for Austin.

I'm not suggesting that Ric should have remained at VCARB, his performance in regards to Yuki did not suggest an appropriate replacement of Perez at RB, also I think Ric was lacking motivation in F1 given the general performance of the car this year. I would’ve gotten rid of Perez and put Danny in the RB20 for the remainder of 2024 because maybe he just needs a fast car to perform better. In any case the risk is minimal since Perez isn’t doing much better anyway. Then that will free up space at VCARB to test out Liam for the rest of 2024 as well (which my guts tells me Liam will be underwhelming also). And if Danny is still slow in the RB20, just find a new driver for 2025. They will have no shortage of good drivers wanting to join them. 😂
@tak8261Ай бұрын
@@PrioCaptSend Using the same logic then they should just give Yuki or Lawson a shot. So why have they not done this? Because they DO have something to lose by taking the risk. They lose out on Checo's sponsorship money, I would imagine they would need to pay him out as well, and there IS a chance that whoever comes in to replace him does even worse. (not just from individual performance perspective, but also in terms of being a teammate to Max) I am not saying I agree with their decision, but they clearly prioritized commercials, stability, and keeping Max happy.

@ArramzyChaosАй бұрын
What I am curious about is what Red Bull does if Yuki beats Lawson the same way he beat Ricciardo the rest of this year and next year. Seems like they really don't want to promote Tsunoda but it's hard to justify promoting anyone else if he keeps beating them. Kind of like Pierre, they didn't want him back in the main team but he beat his teammates so it didn't seem reasonable to promote them either. If Yuki continues to beat his teammates he should at least be given a shot, even if they decide to demote him later if he disappoints like they did with Gasly, I just don't think they'll even give him that shot.

Yuki hasn’t beaten Ricciardo though. It’s been the other way around for most of the year on race day. Accounting for the woeful strategies it’s even more embarrassing for Yuki. Yuki is shit. Signing Lawson for 2025 and allowing Daniel Ricciardo to finish the season would be a more respectful approach. Replacing him mid-season, despite his performance not being poor, seems unwarranted. Given his significant contributions to Red Bull in terms of revenue, memorable moments, and successes, this decision comes across as lacking consideration for his past achievements. It’s just spineless really and nothing else.

The reason he left Red Bull wasn't greed or selfishness. The simple fact was RB were favoring Max the same way they had favored Vettel over Weber. That's the influence of Helmut Marko and before you ask I have actually met Helmut Marko. He's a polite man and amicable but when it comes to racing he is utterly ruthless and once his mind is made up its made up. He'd decided Vettel could win more championships than Weber so Vettel was 100% backed and Weber got whatever was left over. The same happened with Max and Daniel. Was Marko right to conclude those things? *Most likely YES.* On their best days Vettel was always a fraction quicker than Weber and the same for Max over Ricciardo. The question that wont ever be answered is could Weber and Ricciardo have won a championship if they'd been given equal backing. I think YES, because Nico Rosberg got equal backing at Mercedes and he did eventually win a championship despite the fact Louis Hamilton was always a fraction quicker. There's nothing new in any of this its just Formula 1 team politics. Some teams are 100% behind one driver and the other gets the left overs while other teams are 100% equal to both drivers. Interestingly Helmut Marko's F3000 team that he used to run with Red Bull backing (late 90s early 2000s which is how I encountered him) was run as a 100% equal to both drivers, because his job/task with that team was to prove to Red Bull who was worth spending more money on.

I know Daniel is hesitant to make the jump to IndyCar, but I'm looking at the upcoming schedule, and given that we have a big break that leads up to COTA here in the US, it might be a great opportunity for him to talk with some IndyCar or NASCAR teams to see if anyone wants to give him a shot. If Red Bull is serious about the constructors race they should promote Tsunoda to the main team and drop Perez to race with Ricciardo (we'll have a real chance then to see who is underperforming more), and at end of season drop both Perez and Ricciardo (or drop one of the two before end of year). That will never happen due to politics, contracts and money. Tsunoda is actually qualifying decently and capable of much more if he has a drive with the RB20. Perez has been terrible at qualifying with a few exceptions and is costing them starting grid places. With McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes all catching up, it's much more difficult for Perez to move up the grid during the race (and also given his average race craft). Ricciardo on the other hand has a disappointing season and in truth does not deserve a promotion to the main team based on his performance. It's a shame because I think he'd be a more consistent racer in the main team and probably bring better results and racecraft overall than Perez.

Ricciardo in his prime was a very good driver. He had the bad luck of being in a time when Mercedes dominated F1 and Red Bull had reliability issues, they were the 2nd or 3er team. Even his move to Renault wasn't a bad decision, it was a gamble but he was going to get no.1 driver status. His move to McLaren was his doom. He never recovered after his 2nd season, no other team wanted him and Red Bull only rehired him just to have another option if Perez didn't perform well. Moving to Alpha Tauri was a consolation prize, but he didn't have a place in a junior team when their goal is to develop young drivers, not being a championship contender, and Daniel wanted to recover his form and eventually winning races again. And another point: Red Bull have two teams but they are struggling with their driver's lineup almost every season. All year is drama: Verstappen threatening to leave the team in 2026 if it doesn't perform well, Perez being threatened to be fired for almost half season, Ricciardo replacing an awful De Vries but being awful too, and not having a seat for Lawson, their most promising driver in years after Max. And it's ironic that Yuki has the most secure seat this year and the next one, but once Honda leave the team in 2026 his place isn't secure.
