@2:55 It's Kościuszko Mound surrounded by the fortress built by Austrians. The Mound itself was built to commemorate Tadeusz Kościuszko - a Polish - American hero, who fought for the independence of Poland and also who fougth in American war of Independence, built the West Point Academy, and his last will regarding his American assets was to use them to give freedom and education to as many black people as it was possible.

Hi, I am Polish and live in one of the big cities of Poland. Our country has a lot of mountains, not only the Tatra Mountains (Zakopane), but also the Sudetes or the Carpathian Mountains. We have the sea and lakes. We have nice, big cities, castles, attractions for children, Zoo in Lodz is probably the most modern in Europe. Foreigners do not yet know our country well. Visit Wroclaw, Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk, Zakopane, the Baltic Sea, Masuria and lakes, castles. Sample our food! You are welcome. We are open to cultural tourists! Many of us are already well educated and fluent in English.

KZbin algorithm recommended me this video for some reason, so here I am. Am polish, by the way. And yeah, as you saw it in the video, there is a lot of landscapes in Poland, many of them feel very different to each other. They showed you the most important cities, and yeah, that's all worth seeing, of course. We're talking about Warszawa, Gdańsk, Kraków, Wrocław, Łódź, Toruń, these are all major cities, Warszawa being the capital of the country. Poland is also less expensive than most western European countries, and certainly way less expensive than Australia, so I guess that's a plus for many. And it's actually very safe, terrorist attacks never happen no matter the city, country's immigration policies are very strict so if anyone comes to Poland they always come legally, nobody illegal is ever accepted no matter the situation they are in. Pickpocketing is not common, but of course, it is always wise to watch over your belongings if you travel. Younger people tend to speak English to some extent already, but it's always wise to either learn some crucial things like numbers, or just carry a phone with Google translate in case people don't speak English. Good luck and you're welcome here

Thank you for your interest in my country From spring to autumn, almost every weekend there is a stage on the side of the City Hall Tower in Krakow's Market Square (you can see it in the video). And it is this half of the market that hosts the weekly entertainment. At Christmas and Easter, the Krakow Market turns into a huge bazaar where you can buy soap and jam (such a Polish saying) Kosciuszko Mound was raised with soil from the sites of battles in which Tadeusz Kosciuszko commanded. Kosciuszko Uprising fell, the mound is a monument to the great commander. Of course, it does not match the size of Mount Kosciuszko, but for that we have it in Krakow. Auschwitz is for me the most terrifying place in Poland. I have never been there and never will - because I would cry uncontrollably In Gdansk, the Vistula, Poland's largest river, has an estuary. In Gdansk, many of its estuaries have been further deepened and widened. The Three Crowns are located in neighboring Slovakia and can be seen well from the Polish side of the Tatra Mountains. Poles say that Warsaw's Old Town is the youngest old city in the world, as it was completely rebuilt after World War II. Three cities in the film are located on the Vistula River - Krakow, Gdansk and Warsaw.

Although Gdańsk has some German influences it's more Dutch actually ;p Gdańsk used to be a member of Hanseatic League and there were a lot of Dutch there, many of them have settled there and they started to build buildings in Dutch style and other people probably liked it because they followed the trend ;p So it's kinda Dutch with Polish and German spin to it ;p But you have to know that similarly to Warsaw Gdańsk was almost completely destroyed in WWII, after all this is where the War has started, what we see today was rebuilt after the War.

Danzig/Gdanks as well as Krakow (both had sometimes a German majority as population btw.) were also like many other cities up to the Baltics/Russia member of the Hanseatic League. And like many central-east or eastern European cities were also constructed after the 'Magdeburg Law' (from that city in the Holy Roman Empire). It was the same as in 19./20. century many countries in the world took overthe law systems from different European countries. The Chinese 'Baurecht' (building laws) are for instance (strongly) based on the German building laws. Anyway, the history of Central Europe and farer East is a pretty mixed one. And because of that you have from some artists of the Holy Roman Empire also medieval paintings about Krakow or it is mentioned in different writings. Or later codices like the "Balthasar Behem Codex" (also known as Codex Picturatus. Its a collection of charters, privileges and statutes of the burghers of the city of Kraków. Compiled in 1505, the codex was named for the chancellor at the time, Balthasar Behem. The book's text is in German, Latin and Polish. It is now held at the library of the Jagiellonian University of Kraków. That codex is about religious rules but also about guild stuff).

apropos 'Kulturpalast' (today Palace of Culture and Science) from Stalin, that slightly toxic gift. If Polish were smart then they just integrated a 'Stalin/Soviet Crime Memorial/Museum' in this palace. This way Stalin/Soviets paid for his/their own deconstruction ;).. apart from that: most people (especially nowadays) cannot differ such architectural styles from others and rather see that palace as a variation of an US-American inspired Skyscraper (which btw. is not so far away from the truth. Despite of the framing that was indeed a major inspiration for Stalin and others back then over there as well).

Poland has a long, rich but also a difficult history, so I present a short partial resume ;-). An alliance with Lithuania against treacherous Theutonian crusaders in XIV century gave birth of a huge multicultural Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ( containing also Byaloruss and Ukraine). It had a golden era in Reinassance and early Baroque, was ruled by kings (first dynastial , next elected by nobility parliament). Decline went slowly with wars, contrreformation in church, backward socio-economic feudal system based on exporting natural goods, degeneration of parliament system causing lack of stability plus interferrences of foreign powers. Neighbouring absolute kings hated Polish efforts to reform the country according to the ideas of Enlightment and first in Europe contitution (1791). So in spite of Polish patriotic efforts and democratic uprising led by Kościuszko [hero honored with artificial hill] Poland was parted and erased from the map by greedy imperia: Russia, Prussia and Austria. After long struggle to maintain the national identity and resurrect Polish own state, it regained independence after WW1, but was again torn apart in 1939 by extremely cruel occupiers - Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Polish people have a long tradition of fighting for survival and independence, so adding together places where people harsly sufffered - there are plenty of memorial places. Sadly, Nazi Germans established in Poland more concentration&death camps (plus Jewish gettos in Polish cities and towns) to exploit and murder millions of people they considered a lower race - first Jews and Gypsies, but also Slavonic, Poles among them😢. Poland, abandoned to Stalin by Western Allies, as a first broke free from the Soviet domination at the turn of eighties and nineties. In spite of enemies who wanted to enslave/erase Polish people and culture, Poland, with its capital Warsaw is like a Phoenix risen from ashes. It has a lot to offer: plenty of beautiful historical places, various landscapes f.ex. old wild forest with European bisons and ... a desert; plus many more attractions, whatever you like ;-) Visiting one of concentration camps is not pleasant, but is the essential lesson, a warning, very much needed today: the consequences of dehumanisation of "the others" ( nationality, race, political views, LGBTQ, people with disabilities). So, visit Poland!!! :-)

I'm English. My church group went to Krakow, mainly to see places connected to Pope John Paul II, but we went to Auschwitz because it's where St. Maximillian Kolbe was killed by the Nazis. It is horrifying to see piles of human hair and people's shoes, but I would say that if it makes you turn away from inhumane action, then it is well worthwhile going. It is not a sick obsession with concentration camps, but a timely reminder of how low people can go, but also how the human spirit can survive. The Jews and others who lost their lives must never be forgotten.
