Sister Jensen, you too are a good teacher. I, myself am learning, and relearning the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and have a ways to go to prove my worthiness to be re-baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All speakers have council that is of benefit to me. Hearing of Prophets of Old, which I have read about in the Holy and Sacred Scriptures, in General Conference Talks, brings the Scriptures to life for me.

This was such a powerful talk, it really touched me. Especially when he spoke of Joseph in jail and said what if Joseph had the attitude like, so this is what I get for keeping the law of chastity. But it's not that your life has to be good good good, but to know that Heavenly Father and the Lord love you, and to know that They are with you through your trials. if we could sincerely trust Them, and know that it will lead to increasing love for Them and a deeper conversion. And trusting that they never leave us. As evidenced by Joseph ending up #2 to Pharaoh only and he was able to save the entire Israelite Nation.

Perfectly timed talk for me. Just the day before conference, a coworker was instructing me to pray for the things I want. I told him I could do that but the Lord already knows what I want. I shared the parable from Jesus about God knowing us better than our earthly fathers. He still didn't understand why I wasn't praying for certain things. Ultimately , I don't want anything that the Lord doesn't want for me. Therefore I'll take all that he gives me and endure my trials. I'll do right by my family and honor my covenants. I don't need more than this. But I can't have any less. Make sense?

How do you align the statement in the D&C that says: I the Lord am bound when you do what I say....etc. If you need a job to support your family and it doesn't come for years and you die then what's the point? I've heard apologies. Say this over and over. Oh in the next life or oh on his timeline. Well some things have very little time. You may only have to the end of the day the week the month the year. You can't always just put things off and say oh in the next life. Oh this is what he meant. Either he was bound or he's not bound. The scripture doesn't say I the Lord and bound to keep my promise when you do what I say but I'll get around to it 10, 20 100 years. We as individuals can make the same promise. I'll keep your commandments. I'll keep my promise in my own time. Just give me enough time. My only expectation is that a, I mean one prayer is answered within the time it's needed. i. e. This life. Like, should I marry this person. Don't really have years to wait on that one

I really struggle with this concept- what’s the point of living righteously if everything is done according the lords desires and not our own. Are we not agents into ourselves? Are we not here to grow as individuals? If so why the emphasis on submitting to whatever the lord seems necessary? Where is the ability to call upon heaven for miracles and blessings after the manner In which we seek?
@candyxoxo192 жыл бұрын
@Lone Wolf Customs, Ask for what you want and you will get it if it's the Lords will. You will get it according to His timeframe.
@TwilightZoneMusic2 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstand. What the Lord desires is what ultimately is best for us. This can be interpreted many ways but God knows how we can grow spiritually while on earth and return back to live with him. Just like any good parent, they respect our choices but he's always there with his arm stretched out. No one can force you to do anything. We can choose not to follow any commandments just like we can ignore a parents rules or advice. In the end, he sees things from a higher and eternal perspective which our minds cant comprehend (this is why the prophets in the scriptures say encounters with God were undescribable, unable to explain). We even have a hard time defining the spirit, what it feels like, how it works. Life is a refining process... just like a rough rock cannot be made smooth unless it goes through constant damaging over a long time. We couldnt be refined in the premortal life, hence why we're here. And we dont have to do the journey alone.
@nathanbanks29352 жыл бұрын
Hi, Since God is way wiser than we are, because he is all loving, all knowing, and all-powerful, he is aware of what blessings we need, and the ones we just want. It isn't blind obedience, it's following pure wisdom, and love, because we want to love him. Since wickedness never was happiness, why would we want to be miserable? We are kind of like little toddlers learning how to walk. We think that "being carried by our parents is somehow better than walking on our own." We are promised compensatory blessings for lovingly obeying and keeping God's covenants and commandments. Since eternity is infinitely long, and mortal life is incredibly short, our tiny sacrifices are nothing compared with what Jesus Christ did for each of us, because his his infinite love for us. God bless you brother!

How can he say "Our repentance and obedience, service and sacrifices do matter ...but it is not so much because of some tally kept in Celestial account books" when James E. Talmage says in Jesus The Christ pg 561 "In the accounts kept by the recording angels, figured out according to the arithmetic of heaven, entries ARE made in terms of quality rather than of quantity and values are determined on the basis of capability and intent". One Apostle denies a tally book, another one proclaims it. Who do we believe?
@patrickgee81892 жыл бұрын
In context, they are saying the same thing. It's figurative language in both cases, meant to illustrate the same point about over-relying on our works. Both are meant to reflect the truth that it is not so much what we do, but what we become as a result of our desires, our agency, and the Lord's grace. Elder Christofferson says immediately after this that these works help us engage with and know the Lord better and assist in our transformation from natural man to saint. Elder Talmage discusses the Heavenly accounts in the context of citizens giving donations to the temple. Some throw in a lot of money, but the widow who throws in two mites comes away the most changed and benefitted for her service. On page 561, in the same paragraph, it says "the widow's offering was her all. It was not the smallness of her offering that made it especially acceptable, but the spirit of sacrifice and devout intent with which she gave." That's why Elder Talmage notes that it's about "quality rather than quantity" and the eternal value of our actions is "determined on the basis of capability and intent." I hope this helps. While their analogies may seem to contradict each other, they are testifying of the same truth.

@@patrickgee8189 you explained that well, and I love "Jesus The Christ". Such a good book 😇
@parkerplace29102 жыл бұрын
@@patrickgee8189 I appreciate your efforts as an apologist and the desire you have to explain contradictory statements, but I don't see it that way. I see it as it was stated. One apostke says there are accounting books, the other says they don't exist. It doesn't need a commentary on why the they are not contradictory. I felt like you replied in the same exact manner as those essays that try to explain not so well admitted and accountable church issues such as priesthood, polygamy, mountain meadows massacre, etc. General membership members just can't bear the thought that 2 apostles or church presidents might say contradictory statements or that the church has made huge errors. They can't, they won't....because that makes the church vulnerable and potentially wrong now and then. The church expecta me to confess and admit when I'm wrong and repent, they should do the same but they won't. They have a no apology will ever be given policy. What kind of pompous organization can never admit they made a mistake(s)....this one and it's annoying and not right.

C DQ He never said they don't exist.. actually he said, "it's not so much that..." so in reality you are the one who is contradicting. Your opening statement is a direct quote then in one of your earlier replies you say he said, "they don't exist" which is a contradiction. I think elder christofferson is alluding to a cynical mentality. Namely to the critic who is always accusing us of works based salvation. On the other hand, Possibly another mentality directed to the member who is over consumed with a check list mentality. He's addressing personalities. He's issuing a warning of sorts regarding perspective. Doesn't mean that the record or book of life spoken of by John isn't kept. You make a good connection. It's almost like christofferson was intentionally Referencing that and you picked up on it. If so it's hard to imagine he would blatantly contradict. He does say however, "it's not so much that...." Which is not even implying there isn't a tally of sorts or even making a contradiction where were forced to choose between two Apostles... his statement does actually affirm there is a record. He's talking about where to place emphasis and helping us to be more refined in our thinking and assumptions.
