I remember clicking on that for the first time. I was worried you'd be the grumpy guy who complained about everything, but you showed enough of a sense of humor and good nature that I kept watching. And then I clicked on the next video in the series, and then the next, and... Well, I've been watching ever since. I love watching such good-natured people like yourselves. I'm sure I miss the cursing when things go wrong, but on-screen you have a delightful "Well, this isn't working, but now let's fix it" attitude. I never feel like you smile for the camera, but you smile because you want to. It's always nice to have someone genuine to watch.
@LiveSimpleLiveFree6 жыл бұрын
The last time Elizabeth or I uttered a curse word was probably about 30 years ago! It's just not part of our vocabulary, or thinking. If I smash my thumb, I don't even THINK a curse word! The most I would THINK when I smash my thumb is AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

That's awesome you two. Me and my hubby lost our home to foreclose and ended up in chapter 13 for 6 years. In that time p&is and saved 29900.00 bucks and found after searching a few years, found this home. We had to replace the floors and all the pipining.we did o. Our own. Very proud of what we did ad well. You should be proud. We owe nothing. We paid cash for this hunt cabin in the back woods. We got 18 acres and a big fixer upper but we grow our own food and can it for the first time. It was and is a true adventure. Your both are awesome. Adapt like a true soldier. Fantastic to watch this. Cash is king..Thank you for sharing..4 years at our place now.

Awe... Isn't that sweet. The previous owner custom fitted his door going to the sunroom so all the rodents could come in and share bed and home on chilly or hot nights. Ewhhh! Excellent work Bill. Elizabeth is so blessed to have such a loving, dedicated, and hard working husband. You're also blessed to have a wife who appreciates everything you've done to ensure you both have a comfortable home. It would have been easy for her to give up after her stroke. But she pushed herself, with your help too, to make the most of all the rehabilitation so she could regain control and continue to do her part in your union. A marriage is a partnership. If one spouse checks out emotionally or chooses to not contribute, the partnership falls apart. Just as with business partners. Each must carry their own weight and contribute to success. Bravo you two bravo. It would have been so easy to go your separate ways after losing everything. But your love prevailed and grew stronger as your comfortable lives crumbled around you. Congratulations, you've passed the most severs tests any couple can face. Many would argue losing a child is harder on a marriage. And for them it is. I won't deny anyone that. Cheers from Seattle!

If you haven't replace all windows yet, pull these and add a new layer of butyl tape. Add around all exterior doors a d windows. This is a second layer of protection if the caulking fails after really hot or cold days/nights from expansion and contraction of the siding or window frames. Always add caulking to screw holes and the screw themselves. This ensures water does not travel down the threads and into the wood or wall cavities leading to rot. Replace all rusted screws. These will continue to deteriorate cause more issues. I have a restored vintage trailer with modern amenities insidea for travel. Roughly 90% of all the exterior screws were rusted when I started the project. Those screws caused a lot of damage. All were replaced with stainless steel. Cheers!

I have a porch on the back off my cabin that's a bump-out, it had 3 layers of shingles on it and it leaked badly when I bought the place. The roof has a very mild pitch and I was thinking of putting on a tin roof, but I was told that putting on a rubber roof membrane called EDPM, which I had done a year ago. So far so good!

I hired a company called RV-Armor to do a rubber roof coating about a year ago. It was expensive, but it is working well and has a lifetime guarantee.

Hi Elizabeth, this comment isn't about the episode but I have watched your previous Christmas episode and I was hoping if I put it on one of your newer episodes the comment, you would find it easier. My husband and I have been living in a motorhome for the past three and a half years and it is smaller than the home that you have and we've had to do some of the managing things that you've had to do. I wanted to share with you what we do for Christmas for a tree. We actually do have a live tree. We go and buy one of the Miniatures, that's potted, and then we either have it indoors or outdoors (you can actually get both). After Christmas for Arbor Day we replant our tree and that's the tradition that we have started. So I wanted to share it with you because you were saying that you weren't fond of having an artificial tree, and that you'd always had real ones. Hope this helps. Blessings to you and your husband and family. -Annie

The thing most don't realize with old campers is that they say if not properly supported. The supporting tabs for the floor under the walls tend to rust and sag from snow loads. Especially if the bottom is skirted, it's always damp under the trailer. As for roofs, yes some of those sealers work but it's only a temporary fix. With the trailers I've done for people, I remove everything sticking up through the roof (all venting is done out through the side, much easier to seal) then fiberglass/gelcoat the entire roof. Plus, fiberglass is much easier to repair if it gets damaged. On RV's, I only use marine products(if it's good enough for boats in the North Atlantic, it's excellent for trailers) . Yes it's a bit more expensive, but you only need to do the job once, which saves money in the long run. I did my buddies fifth wheeler 20 years ago and he's never had a problem. As for RV and home sealers, if they were as good as they claim, they would be used in the marine industry.
