I'm purchasing kind of a small camper to live in full time, and I was thinking about making videos on and about it, and it's nice to see some smaller living folk who aren't 20 something and super perky/fake chipper.

If you do any off-grid camping (no off-shore electricity) you'll probably find the furnace unsatisfactory because of the high battery draw. The blower sucks a lot of juice. Older RVs had passive heaters that didn't use electricity but no longer. There other types of heaters that are somewhat satisfactory. BTW, the suspension on your Scamp is a torsion bar type suspension. Your Scamp seems pretty well loaded. So be sure to let the suspension "rest" (regain it's torsion) by jacking it up and letting the wheels drop. I don't use mine in the dead of winter so jack it up in late fall and leave it jacked up over winter. If you don't it's like compressing a coil spring with a heavy load and leaving it in that position. The coil would never rebound to it's original fully extended length. In the case of a Scamp, if you allow the torsion bar to loose it's torsion there goes it's ability to absorb shock and over time your RV will sag.

Thank you for the comment we thought that may be the case but only plan to off grid camp during the nice season anyway. We are also looking into a small generator like a Honda. So we'll have to see. Thank you.

Blowers suck a lot of juice? You may want to have your fan examined by a licensed professional. Anything that generates HEAT draws max current.

Hi New sub also from Minnesota. Had heart set on huge truck and truck camper, but I'm thinking about the sixteen foot scamp. Will be watching your channel there really isn't a lot out here about Scamp, popular as they are!
@ourscamplife52105 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! Ya thats why we started this channel. We had trouble finding info when we started looking so thought it would be helpful to get some info out there.

My wife and I have been looking at tear drop trailers and small rv trailers like this Scamp. This seems like a great option for a family of 4. We’re debating getting an off-road oriented tear drop trailer for us two currently to allow us to get farther out in nature, then adding a roof top tent for kids in the future, but I do prefer the idea of having standing room with the whole family inside the trailer. Have you taken this to any of the MN State Forests? If yes, any concerns with how it handles on those dirt roads? How about durability?
@ourscamplife52105 жыл бұрын
Yes check out our other videos for more details but It handles quite well and is very durable and light weight. we took it up the saw tooth mountain pass off lake Superior and it did great being pulled by our mini van up and down the minimum maintenance roads.

awesome! subbed. I got a lot of info from your video about the scamp. I'm looking to try and find one in my area to have a look. I'd like to see a video or picture of you standing up in that bathroom at 5'10" to get an idea on the size of the space. do you find the bunk supports to be fairly sturdy for your kid on the top bunk? Thanks for all the great info.
@ourscamplife52106 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub, and the comment. So glad to hear this video is helping. I will try to add a bathroom shot to the next video. And yes the top bunk seems very supportive. I believe its made to handle 150+ lbs. The bottom bunk holds me at 300# no problem. Check out our other videos too. Lots of other shots and info there also. Thanks and God Bless.
@ourscamplife52106 жыл бұрын
Also what area of the country are you in? They tend to sell fast if they are in good condition. If you're near MN its worth a trip to the Scamp factory.

Do the newer models not have as much head room than yours?
@ourscamplife52106 жыл бұрын
The 2006 and newer models have the higher headroom. Ours is a 2006. All the newer models have the same headroom as ours. 2005 and older seem to have less head room. Hope this helps.
