Our Shetland Pony Winter 1976

I just wanted to clip out this part from a longer video of our Shetland pony in the winter of 1976. Shetlands are feisty, ponies and if you got behind her she'd often buck you. She was ill-kempt when we got her with burrs in her mane and tail--the people weren't taking good care of her. We saw her from the car and I think they gave her to us for free. My sister is leading her, me in front, and my step-sister behind me. My father is walking in the yard.

2/2 I know that you moved there probably because you had to. I am sorry to hear about your parent's split back then. I know that must have been tough on all of you guys. OK Charisse, sleep well tonight. Do you mind if I ask you if you continued to smoke as you got older? I am still smoking now and it is the last ugly habit that I have and probably the worst of all. I only smoke about a half a pack a day but that is even too much. Thanks~ Rob

I guess we all went through that sharing cigarettes in the seventies. I used to hide behind a nearby school or in the brook that was close to my house to smoke, When I could not get real ones I would smoke Winchesters, yuck! How could you have seen Led Zeppelin live if you were living in New Haven from 75-78? Just kidding. I always try to associate any seventies dates to their tours. I should have grown up and away from this kind of thinking by now but... 1/2 Rob

used to cut through areas that had loads of those things in the back woods behind our the house I grew up in and they would stick to everything that you had on and especially wool. That must have been awful and painful for the pony. That was really nice that you had the room and housed it properly. You see I always knew you had a big heart and now I know that you have been like this since you were a youngster. I really enjoyed talking to you this weekend Charisse. Thanks for all the info ~ Rob

A lot of times I am either so engrossed in the video or I am catching up with other VC videos that I completely forget about the description. Shame on me. You answered it quite nicely anyways. Why was it a problem to "got her with burrs in her mane and tail"? Is that a bad thing? You can tell I have no farming in my past although a friend of mine has one in NC that I will kill to visit. Yes, it was snowing all day but no accumulation. We are supposed to get 3 to 6" by 8 am tomorrow. Booo~ Rob
