Hi Maria, it's snowing here on Canandaigua Lake 22 degrees Celsius thank you for version of Santa Claus and the history behind him. I always thought my Uncle Roy was the real Santa Claus and I'm being serious when I was a child I was always good around him all year round. Needless to say it did not work. When Christmas Comes Around I always think of my late Uncle Roy and how jolly and kind he was to everyone. Thank you again for what you are doing and bringing joy to many of us with you are videos. I hope you and hubby are well?

Hi Maria! I have been binge watching your videos since I just discovered your channel. My great grandfather was Swedish but sadly I have never been to Sweden YET. A couple years back I wanted to have a Swedish Christmas by researching Swedish traditions etc - and there was no beautiful resource like your channel at the time - so maybe this year I will designate as our true Swedish Christmas thanks to your wonderful videos ;). Thank you ;)

I am so enjoying your channel, because it brings me closer to the traditions and beauty of my Grandmother's homeland♥ I still have my Grandmother's posters of the JulTomte and I framed them and bring them out every season.

it is so warm (12 degrees) here in germany and it's really difficult to get into a december-coldness-chrismas mood. soooo i'm happy about your advent calendar, because this is the only reason why i already decorated my home with those luminating stars, candles and some other christmas-winter-stuff. looking for episode no. 4! ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ p.s. and how lovely is the postcard with santa and the cat lying in the hay. naaaaw, i wish someone sends me such a cute card for christmas.

Oh I can totally undertand that, it's hard to get in the spirit when it feels more like early autumn than winter and Christmas. I am so happy my little advent calendar is making you find that Christmas feeling, yay!

No, probably not all Swedes know wither, not sure what it's like in other cultures but that's our history behind the evolution of Santa, well part of the history at least. :)

I had heard of the Coca-Cola Santa story, but was very interesting to hear about the Swedish Gnome predecessor as well. The subtitles here are in Dutch btw 🤨 Speaking of Coca-Cola and you wrapping up with thumb up ; there's a soft drink in India called Thumsup. Can be seen as a cousin to Coke and Pepsi, but in its original formulation (which I hope still continues) is better than them both for many (including me). Of course, none of these are not health drinks and shouldn't be had too often .

In the Netherlands we celebrate Saint Nicolas on the 5th of December. The Dutch brought this to America. There it became Santa Claus as they couldn't say sinterklaas. Nowadays Sinterklaas is less celebrated in The Netherlands. It is now seen as discrimination, which is strange it is a child focused celebration and kids are totally not busy with this subject. So in the Netherlands we celebrate Christmas twice. 5th December Sinterklaas or Saint Nicolas, 25th and 26th of December first and second Christmas day. I never heard the story of the Swedish Christmas. I welcome the gnome in my Christmas.

Wooden clogs? Santa was Dutch? XD Modern day Santaclaus seems to be the hybrid between the Swedish version and the Dutch Sinterklaas :) But Dutch Sinterklaas is a hybrid between a Christianity and the old germanic god Wodan/Odin. He is, like Wodan/Odin, portrayed as a wise old man with long wild white hair and a beard and rides his magical horse that can walk and jump over the rooftops like Sleipnir. Odin has always been depicted with a raven, who is his messenger. Who, later became krampus, a goatlike demon that would kidnap misbehaving children in a bag, who then, even more later became the "now so controversial" black Pete, which in America have become Santa clause & the elves with magic reindeer. Children were always feeling a mixture of tense happiness and fear in the time of sinterklaas. Because you would hope that pete woulndt kidnap you but bring presents instead. Modern day Santa really seems to have influences from both sides and its nice to know that, even how often this figure has transformed, the core of the tradition comes from one the same thing :)

Do you edit your own videos? Because they just seem so professionally done, like a show on tv. Anyways, thank you and God bless you.

Very interesting, thank you! I have started watching your Adventkalender with my kids and they are really enjoying it although most of the content is more "Mom-stuff" :P Nevertheless, the feel of your little films is so incredibly festive, warm and fuzzy that they are loving it anyway. I will think about whether this one is appropriate for them though. Haha! They haven't questioned the Santa they know too much yet :) By the way, is Astrid Lindgren's Tomte Tummetott basically the original Santa?
@NorthernHeart6 жыл бұрын
Naawww, that sounds so cozy, I hope that there will be more episodes that suits them better ;) Since I know what's coming I think there will be :) And thank you for sharing, that makes me so happy and give me so much energy. :) Regarding Tomte Tummetott I think her is her version yes. The little house gnomes took care of the house/animals and so on that is pretty much what that little "tomte" aka gnome is doing if I remember it correctly. So yes, it's pretty much where our Swedish Santa "originates from" but not original Santa, so to speak.

We have Sinterklaas, or st Nikolaas in Holland, he is not really scary, but in the old days hè put children in a bag to spain, if they were naughty.
