Great video and stunning drone footage as usual as I am sure we have all come to expect from you two, , yes Eilan Donan was used in the opening sequence of "Highlander" and many other films, I believe it's the most photographed castle in Scotland. The Commando memorial and garden in Spean Bridge affords great views. The highlands of Scotland are packed with history as I am sure you will come to realise. Please keep posting the videos you are doing a great service. Thanks.

We stopped at a viewpoint and as far as you could see in all directions were open mountain tops. The Eileen Donan castle is certainly one of the most picturesque castles. You will love the Applecross pass as well, I have a shot of one of my current bikes on the pass as my screensaver…. @@reinmansmith you'll know exactly what I mean then when I say the biggest issue with the north of Scotland now compared to previous decades, is the traffic. @@SeanandEmily I grew up by Loch Ness, about 25 miles down the road from Cluanie, (of empty petrol pump fame). And in 1985 I actually stayed an entire summer in Cluanie, pumping gas at those very petrol pumps. To say it was cold and wet would be an understatement, it poured with rain every single day, bar two (it was atypically wet, even for the Western Highlands) Coming back to Loch Ness for a day off work was reverse culture shock, like landing in Norway after spending a year in Spitzbergen. I think your characterisation of the Highlands being lush and barren is very true; you can hike uphill from rainforest to polar desert in under an hour. Very interesting to get your impressions of the Highlands, obviously intelligent but not much preconceptions, there's no secondhand erudition here.

Great stuff, brilliant tank range on that Bmw, how have you found the reliability with the Bmw Sean? I've heard about the final drive problems etc, suppose on a fairly new bike it should all be ok. Em is a great co pilot, hotel prices there a bit of a rip off there, a tent makes things much more affordable.
@SeanandEmily4 ай бұрын
Yeah the tank range is fantastic, it's great to fill up and know you really don't need to think about it again all day. We have done 35,000 km on this bike since we got it last March 2023 and it's been great. Only issue is the SOS system needs a software update. I think the issue with the final drive was down to water getting trapped where it shouldn't but they did a recall (where i think they literally drilled a hole) and i think the final drive needs replacing every 60k. Yeah Em is a perfect co Pilot and does a fantastic job of filming. Yeah a tent for sure would save a lot! -just makes recharging all the equipment difficult. Although had we known the weather would have been this good for sure we would have brought the camping gear. 😎👍

Haha, always makes me chuckle when you get range anxiety at 120 mile. I think my range is only 120-140 from full with no fuel gauge and only a little light comes on to let you know you should start panicking 😂 I think that section of road from Invergarry up to the castle is one of my favourite rides. Awesome scenery though the riding does tend to get "spirited"...
@SeanandEmily4 ай бұрын
Haha i make myself laugh about that too! I keep telling myself I've had bikes that have had less range full than when i feel the need to fill up lol -i think it's because the fuel strip on my R1200 once stuck and it went from 120 km range to 0 in about 10 seconds on a motorway. Yeah that road is great and i can see how it can make for a 'spirited' ride 😆😎👍

Hi Stevie, thanks very much 😎👍 Yeah it's important to gain your pillions trust so they can relax and enjoy the ride too. With the right bike it's not hard, Super Sports bikes tend to be tricky as they are really only designed for 1 person but touring and adventure bikes make it very easy for both rider and pillion. Having a pillion that knows what to do is half the battle too, nothing worse than an inexperienced pillion suddenly moving around mid corner. As we have ridden two up so much the bike feels strange when i don't have Emily on the back. 😊

Fortunately we had great weather for the road to Apple Cross (episode will be out on Wednesday), We were very fortunate with the weather during this entire trip - as soon as we arrived in Folkstone the sun came out and appeared to follow us around Ireland 😎👍

Not sure prices in Switzerland, but I'm ashamed of some of the Scottish accommodation prices - I think they are gouging tourists. The Conti RA4 are single compound tyres, but heat treated to give a harder wearing centre. Keep up the good work!
@SeanandEmily4 ай бұрын
Based on this trip to Scotland we would say prices are similar ( Switzerland is know for being very expensive for everything) only Swiss hotels almost always include a breakfast. But I guess if there's enough people coming then they need to make up for the quieter months, still it was a lot more that we expected. Ahh interesting! we presumed they were dual compound but yeah you are right -they have been great so far so really happy with them. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of the tour 😎👍

Absolutely epic ride! Thankfully Shadow has a huge range, nothing worse than a small tank on a touring bike! Can I ask Shaun what is the make and model of helmet you use and do you find it especially noisy? This episode flew by, looking forward to the next one! Cheers.
@SeanandEmily4 ай бұрын
Thanks! We had an awesome day exploring Scotland. Yeah so thankful of the big tank, takes away a lot of thought about tanking up. We are using a Touratech Helmet that's manufactured by NEXX. They are really good helmets and although no helmet is noise free we do find these are well insulated so are not too loud. Here's a link to the exact model: www.touratech.com/aventuro-pro-carbon.html

Just be careful the further North you come there are less and less fences to keep the animals in . I've met sheep, highland coos and even a couple of buzzards just standing on the road

Please use local businesses, nothing against Wetherspoons but locals cannot compete against their " economies of scale" advantages. There is a saying in Glasgow which goes something like this..." I remember when Greggs was the worst bakery in the High St... now it's the only one"
@SeanandEmily4 ай бұрын
Yeah we do use local businesses when we can, but unfortunately our budget for this tour is not unlimited. Happy to say the restaurants and bars looked like they were doing a good business from tourism and there was a lot of locals using Weatherspoons too. 👍

I’m Scottish and live in Scotland and have done the NC500 many times but can you please refer to actual Scottish terms. It’s a Glen Not a valley. Lochs not lakes and please stop saying British as the majority of us are Scottish not British. Your videos are good though
@SeanandEmily4 ай бұрын
Coming from Wales we would not expect you to always use Welsh terms when visiting Wales however we do of course respect that you are Scottish (Sean's Dad is Scottish too), the same as if you were to visit our current home Switzerland you would not be expected to use German terms. This being our second day in Scotland you can't expect us to change the way we think and speak instantly and we keep this channel as natural as we can (no pre rehearsed conversations). That being said of course we want to use the Scottish terms, there's so many spectacular sights in Scotland and we are looking forwards to sharing the rest of the trip. We hope you can understand that we will at times revert back to terms that we have been using all of our lives especially when we are taken back by the landscapes and just want to express ourselves naturally. We hope you enjoy the rest of the series as we do our best to showcase Scotland's Lochs and Glens 😉
