I simple love Mt. Rushmore. Everyone should see this on their bucket list.

I can't believe you were disappointed with Mt. Rushmore! I was there for the first time 5 years ago, and when I got to the edge and looked up, I was overwhelmed by the hugeness and closeness of it! It brought me to tears. We're coming back again this year, and doing some new attractions (inc Devil's Tower), but our first stop is Mt. Rushmore. 😀🇺🇸
@JamesandLaurent3 жыл бұрын
If you were overwhelmed by Mt Rushmore, you absolutely have to go to Crazy Horse then. Much larger statue.
@gomogo20003 жыл бұрын
@@JamesandLaurent Thanks! We did Crazy Horse last time, and took the bus up to the monument. Yes...it is HUGE and impressive! But since it wasn't "face-to-faces" like Rushmore I didn't feel overwhelmed like I did there. Rushmore is just so majestic and beautiful, especially since it is four very important presidents. It was a very exciting and a proud patriotic moment. Can't wait to be there again in 2 months! 🙂

Great Video! We are flying into Denver and spending 11 days in South Dakota/Wyoming. How would you two suggest spending those days? Travelling via SUV. We were planning on driving up to South Dakota and spending 3 days there then spending the final week in Yellowstone.
@JamesandLaurent4 жыл бұрын
Our answer is: It depends what you are into. Believe it or not, we have never been to Yellowstone and therefore have no opinion on whether one week in Yellowstone is a lot or not. But 3 days in South Dakota feels incredibly rushed. 4 or 5 days sounds a lot more reasonable, the reason being that there is a lot of variety in South Dakota (landscapes, wildlife, history, museums, gambling), while Yellowstone is purely about landscapes and wildlife. Hence the question about what you're into. If you only want to do 5 or 6 of our Top 10, then 3 days is still rushed but feasible. If more than 5 or 6 are interesting to you, then 3 days is way too short.
@kristinnunn48073 жыл бұрын

You should base your visit of Mt Rushmore on the weather forecast more than anything else. As long as you get there early in the morning, you should be fine. It's not one of these sites where small crowd vs. big crowd makes a huge difference to your experience.

That town of Wall looks awesome to stroll around and check out the history. Wall Drug is where it's at haha. I always picture the nuclear testing in the Pacific, Utah, Nevada but never South Dakota. So neat. -c/t

I wish I had a genie, who could let me ride on a magic carpet to Deadwood, for a meal in the Gem Steakhouse (and I'd like to sleep with Al Swearengen, too!)....I love walking, but I'm not very confident with rambling in steep, hilly areas; so maybe it's not the region for me?
@JamesandLaurent4 жыл бұрын
Deadwood has a river running through it, so the whole downtown area is pretty flat. It only gets hilly if you want to go up the Mt Moriah cemetery.

Somewhat disappointed you left out Jewel Cave and Wind Cave, both very close by. Also, the Booth fish hatchery or the Geographic Center of the US in Belle Fourche, but I can't really argue with your choices.
@JamesandLaurent3 жыл бұрын
We really wanted to go to both Jewel Cave and Wind Cave, but one was closed because of Covid and the other because the elevator was down. Maybe on our next trip there.

In the 1930s a new highway US 16 bypassed Wall. So he put up signs offering free ice water.

Do you guys know if everything is closed now because of covid?
@JamesandLaurent4 жыл бұрын
Most of the national parks should be open, at least the roads and trails. The visitors Centers might be closed, which means you'll have to do a little bit more research on your own before going there. Deadwood is reopened too.

@AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL FOREVER! Literally 529 more miles to Sylvan Lake where the wife and I vacation every year. We found Wall Drugs and Deadwood to be touristy and a letdown. Worth a stop, but just a tourist feel. But each and every year we go to Rushmore and walk to the base of the memorial where we stand and think about the beauty of this country and our amazing fortune at being born and living our 28 years of marriage in this great country. (28 years today!!! It's our yearly anniversary trip). Anyway...I just laughed at your liberal comment and wanted to wish you best regards. I'm guessing (hoping) the authors Just wanted to point out other things to do in SD, and really don't mean to dissuade people from the monument.
