I take the honorable mention, the Mazda CX-5. Among the most reliable on this list, and the one with the most luxurious interior. Hyundai/Kia we looked at, but the interior quality does not compare and long-term quality is a concern. RAV4 was nearly as good but the dealer would only sell for $4000 over MSRP (2 of them). Did not consider Ford or Honda.

I bought an Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint PHEV EAWD 15 months ago, after test driving most of the above. It handles better, looks better, fits in my garage nicely, and does everything just as well as the ones mentioned ( I am getting better electrical range and gas mileage then stated on the MSRP ), and I got it below MSRP ( try that with a Rav 4 Prime, if you can find one ). Interesting timing from Honda though, they just announced a recall yesterday on their hybrids for cracked fuel pumps that can cause a fire. Subaru also just released some teaser details on their new hybrid system coming soon for the Crosstrek and Forester (increased power, improved fuel economy and mechanical AWD system still being used). Looks like it will be a very compelling option in the segment once released.

@@gosman949 There's been a few out recently. Looks like it will be the 2.5L boxer, with an eCVT and 2 motor/generator units but still using a mechanical connection to the rear diff. So it will likely be a little less efficient than the Toyota only system (that uses 3 motor/generator units) but will maintain that "Symetrical AWD" system most Subaru vehicles are known for. Also, because they are using most of Toyota's hybrid synergy drive (adapted to the Subaru vehicle), it saves them a considerable amount of development costs and they can also benefit from the proven reliability of the Toyota system.

Bigger screens are great if you use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. @@Revoncheap Here’s where your one-sided biases come shinning through: 1. Consumer reports is ONE source. There are many, many sources to refer to (Kelly, JD Powers, etc) so to place your information on a single entity is short-sighted and biased. 2. You might assume that there are many “unhappy” owners but you fail to see the overall success that the Escape has had since they introduced the compact SUV segment in 2001. There are HUGE numbers of them on the road today. The general reason Ford doesn’t sell as many of these SUVs is because of the competition. Keep in mind (if you can think beyond one dimension) that similar offerings from other manufacturers is the main reason why some models of compact SUVs don’t sell as well. BUT, that doesn’t change the fact that many of them are still on the road today. 3. This goes along with #2 but ANY vehicle that’s older than 2019 that’s still on the road today are “out of warranty” unless there’s a limited one attached to it somehow. Even America’s beloved “poster child” Toyota and Honda compact SUVs from 2019 and earlier are out of warranty. Sounds like you’re biased against Ford. Yeah, yeah, I know - I can hear you now: “Well Toyotas and Hondas are going to be more reliable and dependable than anything from Ford in the long-term!” Perhaps, but that doesn’t negate the vialbility of my Escape or others like it and why so many are still present today. Also, make sure that if you are only going to refer to CR as a single source, try to look at the overall valuation of what’s considered “reliable” in our age today. Reliability meant something totally different, say 10-15 years ago, than compared to what we consider “reliable” today. It’s unfortunate that soooo many people, like you, make these one-sided commentaries without even looking at the whole picture. This is why it’s so easy chicken-picking comments like yours to pieces. When I decide on a new vehicle it is going to be the Subaru Forester. Subaru safety record is by the far the top. Gas mileage is all relative. I need the vehicle to get me from point A to B. Plus being reliable.

We were able to get a better deal on the Ford Escape PHEV than the Honda, Toyota and Hyundai that we cross shopped. Ford dealers had good selection. We are very happy... flawless and efficient.

Honda has excellent build quality and should last over 10 years without a major problem with routine maintenance. I was surprised to hear about the autobrake system triggering with debris around the camera. Most automakers will disable the autobrake when there is something obscuring the camera with a warning on the dashboard. Mazdas have the best driving experience. A naturally aspirated 4-cylindar in a CX-5 feels excellent in day-to-day driving. The Korean brands load up features and arguably offer value, but owners will take a hit with the trade-in/resale value. Toyota must be preparing for a major redesign for the RAV-4, because it's been the same-old for a while, with no improvement in quality.

Although you keep stressing how expensive the Hondas are, the Toyota is significantly more! Like your show & watch regularly.

The Hondas are more than Toyota, comparing hybrid to hybrid. The Toyota HPEV is a lot more and in my book, not worth it.

Ordered a 2025 Ford Hybrid PHEV which has a lower MSRP for 2025 versus the 2024 plus i got a $3750 tax rebate. Having a spare rear tire relives the fear of getting a flat. BTW the Ford and Toyota hybrid systems are the best.

We have a '22 Santa Fe PHEV, which shares a lot of its components with the Tucson PHEV. It works well for us. Disappointed they didn't continue to offer a PHEV in the new Santa Fe. Curious how the CX-50 Hybrid will perform though. I would like to try a Mazda for our next vehicle when the kids are out of their child seats.

@hereigoagain5050Ай бұрын
Great! What is your biggest surprise about the Equinox EV? I think they should be in a different list because they are so different, but people do cross shop hybrids and EVs.
@Andre-cj3ecАй бұрын
@@hereigoagain5050 My biggest surprise is that it's fun. Zach says one shops for EVs with a spreadsheet and that's indeed how I chose the Equinox. However, now that I've driven the car, the pleasant cabin, comfortable ride, great exterior style and enjoyable driving dynamics of my AWD would have sold me on emotion. My advice? Forget it is an EV and just test drive it as a car.

Great top 5 summary. I’ve recently put a deposit on a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (it will arrive in the next 2 weeks). The Tucson Hybrid reviews well, is loaded with features and its towing capacity is double that of the CRV hybrid (2000 vs 1000 lb towing). I test drove the Tucson Hybrid and it was so quiet, smooth and comfortable! I also think it’s a great looking vehicle inside/out.

At one point I was considering leasing the Tuscon Hybrid Limited or Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige. But with the 2024 & 2025 updates I've also gone back to liking to the CX-5 Carbon Turbo & Signature trims which I know are better in performance than either of those hybrid models

The upcoming CX50 with Toyotas proven hybrid system is the best of both worlds imo. We shall see how it holds up. It'll never be a RAV4 though due to the badge. Toyota badge does wonders for resell, it's actually insane.
