Nice list guys, and great to hear your perspective, we ended up getting the HD Sport Glide, Mrs loves the back and I love the ability to quickly remove all the extras and go for a daily ride, or load it all back up in seconds and go for a longer trip. I'm 6ft3 and topping 105kg, we did change the seat for a Lapera Kickflip which has changed the feel of the bikes to be a much more locked in feel which I love, plus the mrs gets more padding. Great video. I agree with what you say in other vids about the satisfaction and pleasure from riding smaller machines. I am 82 and have ridden almost every kind and size of bike. I now find the big ones too heavy for me to move around . I recently bought a 98 Honda Rebel 250 with only 2k mike's from new. It has been a revelation. It's the easiest most comfortable bike I have ever owned . So relaxing to ride . No , it's not fast but it's silky smooth , quiet and easy to maintain myself . It's not all about arm wrenching power . Cruising around at sensible speeds and enjoying the surroundings is what it's all about for me now . Push the button , and release the clutch and it almost rides itself . Love the RE 350 classic you tested recently. I am very tempted with one of those ... But the Rebel stays ! Great channel . Excellent content and presentation . Well done .

Good to see you back! A little bit disappointed by your top 5 choices, as they were all extremely large and expensive bikes, appealing to a narrowish group, in my opinion. How about putting together 'top 5 bikes' in various categories? Over the past couple of years I bought a Zontes 310 sports tourer (great bike, but at 5 foot 7 needed a step ladder to get on and off it!), then a Herald 400 Classic after your review - great bike! Then the best bike I have ever owned, a Royal Enfield Meteor! Not sure why I love it so much, it's not fast, but has a huge dollop of character. Honestly, where do you go more than 60 mph in the UK if you avoid motorways? A lot of us just want to ride around the UK's country side in a relaxed way, and smaller bikes are more suited to this. Also, many of us do not want to spend 10's of thousands of pounds on a huge bike. Given the price tag of a Meteor or an Interceptor, you just can't get more smiles per mile, for the price! Love the channel! Mr Darcy mentioned (when I offered to let him test my Meteor) that you might be doing B&B, is that going to happen? If so, how can I book a few days away on my Meteor next year! Cheers guys!

I demo'd the new Beemer. I had a good time. The guy leading was riding pretty sporty. There is little wrong with most modern bikes and this Beemer is no exception, but I rode my Road King to the demo and home from the demo and riding them back to back cemented that the HD feels so much more refined. Odd, as shaking and rattling was initially HD's thing. Besides the overly vibey engine, the Beemer wasn't nearly as ergonomically correct or as variable. You better like the position the Beemer puts you in, because there is nowhere to move around to get comfy once you're on it. In its defense, I thought the brakes felt nice, better than HDs, and it did feel a little lighter to back peddle into parking spots and whatnot.

We reviewed it in 2020 so that’s why. Unfortunately we were unable to get hold of any Indians this year ☹️
good list. my top 5 bikes:5 goldwing for beeing best all around tourer and grocery getter with that smooth motor.4 crf300l for a usable small displacement dirt bike with every day street ability without beeing to heavy or to harsh like husqvarna/ktm etc.. 3. kawasaki versys 300: for beeing realy streetable everyday but still handelable in lighter dirt and a good commuter and cheap/reasonable to run but smoother due to it´s 2 cylinder 2. yamaha tenere 700 for long distance touring with a little bit of ofroad capability but every one would agree that bikes like these are not a dirt bike and should not be considered for offroad use but i basicly can do it if the rider feels the need for it, very street able motor thought with good packege for bigger rider and a good suspension also for bigger rider.1. bmw 1250 gs in the 40 years editon with a more straight up upper body position. it would´t be necessarly my choice of bike but i have to admit the adventages of the sticking out boxer motor in a n accident when a bike hits you from the side and that is a common type of accident mostly in lower speeds in urban type of traffic but it can nonetheless smash your legs badly on other bikes with no protection from the side. in india there are many leg protection bars available for the enfield but in europe/usa there are more for the bike to be protected but i want my legs also protected for that occurance. i know there are a lot more types of things that can happen but that is a thing to consider. also the bmw just is a jack of all trades but for me for a pure tourer i would tend to go to the gold wing but the bmw has it´s advantages in the more higher up seating position like an enduro so if one likes that for some reasons then the bmw is there for you. i would realy want to have both: a bmw gs, a gold wind and the crf300l and them maybee a proper enduro like husqvarna also. i have 2 huskys and a bigger bike (wich i don´t ride) but the gs and the goldwing are bikes that i would like to add to my garage, but of course money is not limiitless or i don´t want to spend that too much on deprechiating things that i don´t absolutely need. but nice to have for sure they are.

Yes, and the rumble between the cilinders just doesn't feel right, nice bike, but the standard R18 has(in my opinion!) really ugly exhaust pipes.... The classic solves that....

I'm a Triumph man so my preference is for Triumphs. But I have to agree with you on your opinion of the Speedmaster; It does look too small for you. Regarding the Harley, not my style, The Harley persona and attitude that it exudes from my experience (and location) is off putting. Not to mention, going into a Harley dealer and feeling (and being treated) like I should be lucky to have the privilege to enter their store. I do like BMW's, but while I didn't particularly care for the R18. You had me at the minute you said Reverse. Yes, driving a Heavy 900+ pound Cruiser "With No Revers????" I still cannot fathom why only Honda with it's Honda Goldwing (prior to the R18) is the only big bike to put Reverse on their bike. Just on that alone, I would have given it number one.

I rode triumph for 16 years, last one was a thunderbird. Traded my 2010 thunderbird in for a 2021 street glide special. I love this bike. I love thaT Harley offers real dealer support. I love that every interaction I’ve had with their shop I get a request from Harley for feedback. I appreciate that they want to know if I’m happy. Never once did triumph reach out to me and ask me for feedback on my buying experience or my service call experience.

The single-sided swingarm on the Rocket lll is its best feature. I don't like the Triumph Speedmaster at all. The R18 Classic: a great bike but number 1? I agree: reverse is essential on heavy bikes. I have it on my trike. I like all sorts of bikes. What a great jacket.

Good lineup, especially considering your criteria. Thanks for getting over the size issue and squeezing the Speed Master in there, I'd go along with that as well. Obviously, one man's meat is another man's poison, so I guess you'll get flak from all directions, so no criticism from my end. I'd be well interested in a few "by category" reviews next year, as I think that a fair comparison can only be achieved if you compare apples with apples. I'm really excited about the emergence of Indian manufacturers in the European market, (years ago I worked in India and their culture and history is so closely bound up with Great Britain's that I see us as being in the same family) and I would love to see how they stack up against the established marques. Keep up the good work, and look on the bright side, we're almost halfway through the shit weather season!

I'm a 6 foot tall Street Twin rider and agree it's a tad small. I'm wondering if Triumph thinks the big Scrambler 1200 XE is the bike you're looking for. It's even in the Bonneville lineup. I've had the pleasure of riding a Scrambler 1200 XE a few times and it's an absolute blast.

I don't know about the fatboy and rumor has it 2022 might be it's last production year in the US. I like the Rocket 3 in there but I would have chosen the GT just for the forward controls. The BMW at number 1? I've sat on one and didn't care for it, I felt cramped with mid controls and no way for forward controls or even highway pegs. I"m curious as to the reliability of the R18 and it's service costs. BMW's are not cheap to have serviced if you are one who doesn't like to wrench on their own bike. Cheers
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Yes it will be interesting to see what bikes stick around! Certainly maintenance costs weren’t figured in 👍🏼
@nielsmeer3 жыл бұрын
You can get highway bars to rest over the cylinders. I’ve rested my legs directly on the cylinders on other boxers. It’s fine to stretch out for a few minutes. The R18 engine is highly understressed so I expect it to last a long time. Beauty of boxer engines is they are super easy to work on as the cylinders are right out there. This helps reduce service costs. The R18 has minimal electronics and the ones it does have like ABS and ASC they’ve done forever. Few caveats… my R18 Classic was delivered earlier this week. My oldest BMW is a 1972 R75/5. I bought my first BMW 25 years ago, so I’ve had plenty of first hand experience with reliability, self wrenching and service costs.

not sure I agree with the BMW...yes it does look incredibly fantastic, but I rode one on Dallas recently, and was left very uninspired. I rode the big Indian after, and loved it! This is coming from a Rocket 3R Black owner though, so I do love that stupid torque, and that was well used (on my old 2012 2300cc Rocket) back in Texas.

Great video! I like the BMW R18 Classic, but they can be expensive to maintain; thus, the reason that I bought a 2019 Indian Chief Darkhorse-I can easily do most of the routine maintenance myself. Yes, everyone is different. At 5'9" and 155 lbs, my cruiser preferences are just different. With minimal rear suspension movement, awkward leg position, and the massive weight for an 1800cc engine, the R18 is not in my list of top 5 (yes it has the style). I would definitely add the Indian Super Chief Limited in the list. And the top one in my list is the Rocket 3 GT.

"Old Man"....I'm a little bit surprised that you chose the BMW as your favorite bike. I , to, LOVE the way that it looks , and I agree that it IS "art on wheels" . I love the driveshaft! I'm tall like you. I recently saw one of those at a gas station and was really surprised at just how small it is. I so wanted it to be Indian Chief Vintage size. Long and big . But....it's not. How do you REALLY fit on it on a long ride? There aren't many "big" bikes for guys our size !
@MrDarcy-OlMan3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps looks are deceiving. The Indian Chief has a wheelbase of 1626mm snd the R18 1731mm. The R18 is plenty roomy enough and I found the riding position spot on! 👍🏼👍🏼

I cannot agree more with you over the Speedmaster . Triumph generally build bikes too small which is a huge disappointment when they look so nice and have that history behind the brand. The Fatboy was one of the most comfy bikes at the NEC this year, but, twenty grand!!!! I've had an air-cooled BM since my early twenties ( 54 now) so was looking forward to the R18. The pots are so big I lost my feet under them in comparison to an old boxer, I wondered whether that would feel cramped over a distance ride? Thanks for channel chaps, good luck with next year, have a good Christmas / New Year break, that goes out to the hosts and every other biker watching these. Keep it shiney side up👍
@florislok3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you. I also ride an old boxer since the early nineties and are interested in a Triumph. But yes, they make them much to small. Must have to do with the Asian and South-American market. Back then when our airheads were made, tall Europeans were the main buyers.
@richardjames27753 жыл бұрын
@@florislok you may well be right there. I'm six one and looked very awkward on a Bonneville. It's strange as the human race are supposed to be getting bigger each generation! Nice to talk to another airhead🤣🤣. The simplicity of them are cool.
