I left Lorain in 1968 with lots of great memories. The Ford plant and US Steel provided jobs that kept Lorain alive for a long time. Alas, things change....Love the pictures and song choice.

Lorain IS a great town! I grew up in Vermilion, but we went to Lorain for all of our entertainment and most of our shopping. When I was a reporter for the Morning Journal, I was blown away by the diversity of the people and what they had to offer. Every town has it's rebirth, and Lorain is about 20 years overdue.

well they keep voting democrat in cities like lorain, cleveland, youngstown, toledo, columbus, detroit, nyc, and so on, there is no future unless people clean up there ways, stop voting for the leftist morons, things be way better. but also minorities ruin the cities as well with there no class, no morals, no intelligence, but only slum mentality, till that all changes, things will stay miserable, that is why i moved the hell out of that area and i am living great.

I graduated in 1964, and was in the first sophomore class in 1961. Went to Garfield elementary, then Washington at the end of 4th grade, then Hawthorne. In the video at 2:09 is a photo of The Kandy Korner at 23rd & Bdwy, with a row of new cars in front of it. My parents ran the Kandy Korner from 1947 to 1958 and we lived above the store. It was torn down around 1984. Yesterday I viewed the rubble of AKHS.

My whole family on my mother's side Darby (Darabi) comes from Lorain and I have been back on many occasions to vist them, I must say Lorain is a wonderful City. It is really sad to think that Lorain is full of crime nowadays...I just wish it would go back to way it used to be. Thank you for posting this video! It does bring back the memories of the way Lorain used to be.

i wish lorain ohio still used to be the way it was back in those days. lorain be such a beautiful, clean, hard working city, these days today in lorain ohio is garbage, thanks to the hip hop culture, the mentality of minorities with no class and no morals and then it influences white kids to be trash just like them, its sad. but we can make Lorain Ohio great again by taking the trash out and make Lorain beautiful once again and hard working.

I was just through Lorain about three weeks ago...there were places that gave me the creeps, in broad daylight. To all the former Admirals, Steelmen, Clippers, Saints, Spartans, and surrounding places, we can't get it back, but we can remember how it was. GO CLIPPERS! State Champs 1974.

I moved from Lorain in '91, and I now live in Texas...I realized watching this that the "Lorain" I remember is more than 30 years gone. Here's to the Dreamland, Tivoli, Ohio, Lanza's, Scott's, Heilman's Ranch House, Twin City Cab, El Campito sans sidewalks, and so much more, my old home town...goodnight. P.S.- with me gone, who points the cannon at City Hall these days?

A wonderful song, and Lorain was in its glory in the 1960s when I came of age. You could get a job anywhere - Ford, steel mill, GM in Elyria, shipyards, Thew, etc. The rust belt of America is just that, and it started when companies outsourced work to areas of cheap labor - first our southern states, then other places around the globe. Manufacturing in the US will come back only if we reduce business taxes for companies with jobs for US citizens here. the Clambaker. AKHS 1964

It's true Toni Morrison left Lorain just as everyone leaves their town. It doesn't make it bad, it's just that you want something different. Besides when someone "comes" from a town, that speaks volumes about that community.
