As someone who lives in the Hudson Valley, you definitely hit up some amazing spots and loved the video. You also came at the right time to explore the northeast in the Fall. There is a ton of history in the Hudson Valley of course, and its impossible to see it all in 2-3 days, but if you ever make it back and you're history buffs, I would totally suggest hitting up some of the famous houses like Kykuit (Rockefeller Estate), Sunnyside (Washington Irving's Estate), both of which are right near where you were (Sleepy Hollow). There's also FDR's Home and Presidential Library in Hyde Park. Of course, most of thee homes have tours and require reservations to get the whole experience, but totally worth it.

My sister is in-law is from Chappaqua.We stay in Tarrytown every summer and the Estate is fabulous!
@DaimyoD02 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recommendation. Next time I'm in the area these will be on the list. I'm pretty lukewarm about all US presidents but my friend is a pretty big FDR fan lol. But you don't really need to like someone to learn something valuable from visiting their historic estate IMO.
@SithLandlord2 жыл бұрын
@@DaimyoD0 I forgot to mention, I'd you go to Hyde Park, NY to see FDR, also go and see the Vanderbilt Estate. It's literally down the road.

Yesss I agree! Also they should stop at the Eveready, best diner food in the valley
@russmartin41892 жыл бұрын
@@DaimyoD0 FDR guided the USA through the Great Depression and WWII. His home is largish. The museum is good. It is a nice place to walk around. Most presidential homes, are not worth the effort, but a few are. Mr. Vernon, Monticello, and FDR estate are. At the same time, you can vist the Vanderbilt Mansion about 2 miles up the road where you get the best view of the Hudson Valley.
As a lifelong Mid Hodson Valley resident, I truly appreciate this video. I honestly believe there's no other place on earth that is as beautiful as it is here in the fall. Thank you so much for showcasing our beautiful part of the world

There is another castle in New York, called Boldt castle, near Alexandria Bay , NY. in the 1000 Islands. It is now closed for the season but you could look it up. Quite the love story behind its build. I was able to take a ferry ride from the Canadian side to visit it. Even needed a passport! Can't wait to see where you go next.
@joannakennedy60052 жыл бұрын
Yes quite a love story, it was interesting reading about it. My stone-built house here in the UK, is actually older than that castle. It's great that it has been fully restored, because it would have been a shame, for an interesting part of history, to be left in ruins.
@michelejeican8302 жыл бұрын
There is also Singer Castle down river! Singer Castle was actually lived in and you can stay in it now. Summer is great, but fall is beautiful in the 1000 Islands!

We started our journey in Albany on the Hudson River the last week of November almost 3 years ago. A family of 5 on a 38 ft boat we've since sailed thousands of miles and visited multiple countries. Watching your video helped us reflect how far we've come as we sit here in Guatemala. The Hudson is on of the prettiest rivers we've had the privilege of sailing.

10:25 Technically, poi usually refers to balls on the end of ropes, which can also be used in fire dancing like this. Poi is originally from Maori of NZ and wasn't a form of fire dancing originally, AFAIK, but has since been adapted into a contemporary flow art, which includes fire spinning. I think the term is now sometimes used more widely to refer to fire dancing in any capacity, particularly when it is seen at tourist resorts in the Pacific islands. Inside the flow arts and fire performance community, the flow seen here on the video would be called staff / fire staff, and depending on the style, contact staff (in addition to fire breathing). Fire performance can include a variety of other props, like dragon staff, S-staff/baton, rope dart/meteor/puppy hammer, fans, hula hoop, leviwand, sword, nunchuks, orbital, juggling, fire breathing, and countless others. At any rate, the distinction is a bit pedantic and I don't think anyone in the community would call your statement outright wrong, they'd get what you mean, and the use of the term here is actually pretty neat IMO. I was excited just to hear that you've heard of us lol Source: I spin poi, sometimes including fire poi, and a little bit of rope dart and staff. P.S. If y'all ever see this, huge thanks for the Harvest Host tip, I am super excited.

I understand your wanting to put down some kind of roots. My mom & dad were super active RV'rs for many years and their home base was a 32 x 42 post and beam metal sided building to park their motorhome and car and boat inside. They built a 2-bedroom apartment in the second story at the back of the building to stay in while NOT traveling. But when they left on a trip their car and boat and "apartment" were all safe and sound inside this big building at the farm. They installed a trailer waste water dump/drain outside with a water supply for any of their RV friends (Beans?) that might drop in for a stay. What a life!

And if you stopped in Woodstock NY, just a few miles out side town up the mountain is an authentic Tibetan Monastery and Temple. Across the street are some pretty great hiking trails that take you all the way up to an awesome view of the entire area. With the Mohonk Mountain House, not sure if they still offer along with a trail pass, you can purchase a meal ticket and take advantage of their dining hall. And yes, great eats at Top Taste!

I really enjoyed watching your video just now (Sunday, June 25, 2023. You both have a great attitude towards what you are doing and that is very important in life. I'm originally from Brooklyn, York. The fall is a wonderful time to visit the Hudson Valley. But there is a lot more to see north of Kingston. Opus 40, between Woodstock and Saugerties is amazing. The City of Hudson, in Columbia County became a major whaling port in the early 1800s. The Village of Coxsackie in Greene County has a charming downtown right on the riverfront. Historic districts in Albany and Troy have been used as sets for filming The Gilded Age because there is so much intact historic architecture. Lots more to see!
