why not dig a trench 2-3 feet deep and put it in a proper water line with a pump building at the supply end. With the two supply feeds available and just have a valving system to select where the water comes from

I’m guessing Greg wanted to use his chainsaw to make the trench and their dog came up with the drive and scoop idea.😁 I was just watching Farmcraft 101 fixing his Yanmar backhoe and he mentioned he bought because of the limitations of a backhoe on a tractor. The limitation being you had to disembark the backhoe to move the tractor. Problem solved.

Shallow wells are usually 10 to 60 feet. Sand-Points work well in my area, and they are DIY-installed with a sledge- hammer! Your Backhoe can get down many feet, meters! An auger, hand or powered, can dig down many feet but wells need pumps. There is much green on your property indicating surface water! Shallow or deep wells do not freeze! Apparently, you have a small stream, fed by a Spring? If so, then there is pressure pushing the water out of the ground! Much can be done with Springs! Ron PTL USA

To keep the ground brush around the solar panels down, cut the brush down like you did, then place cardboard over the weeds and keep it down with rocks. That will kill any growth below and keep weeds down for a few years before biodegrading

Another awesome video!! I’m wondering…. Instead of having to move water line spring/summer, couldn’t you have a t line for a second line to lower spring with an on off valve switch? So then you could just keep 2nd line closed until upper spring runs out, then throw switch to open 2nd line? Not sure if this is possible, but I envision it in my head😂😂😂 Enjoy the warm weather😎

Heat, yep even on the so-called wet coast. All of you needed more water to keep heat stroke away. Your trenching method is unusual but extremely effective. Good thinking! Is the house insulated enough to at least be cooler during the day? I actually expected that chore to take much longer and be more difficult than it obviously was. Thank you for the update videos, they're often intriguing and we'll thought out, Katie. 👍

Greg and Katie, good job as usual on your projects. Have a look in your Stihl chainsaw exhaust for a small mesh spark arrestor that screws out. When they get Carboned up and oily your chainsaw bogs down and yours should be screaming but it seems muffled. There are heaps of YT sites about It and how to set your high and low on carburettor. Chicanic is one good site

I guarantee that is one great system and as to why we live in rain forests an have no water right where needed beats me. I have lived exactly like this... wish I could remember how to make the pump that worked on its own weight as it filled it would trip and then make a pump... amazingly good pressure and no electrical needed. Harder for poor Katie to fight wardrobe malfunctions that the job but she got it done. I have those same guns Greg, at seventy three almost now, I still measure a full fourteen inches and have sixteen inch forearms... your going to get there too. I trained it the army plus hand loaded scrap steel for junk for a good ten years into box cars on the railroad... I still can't close my hands as the cramps just kill me.

Looking for property with springs or moving water. Thinking about a large underground home. With built-in pool/cistern. Me and my brother are getting disabled with time, and moving in together would benefit us both. Underground seems the most efficient way to live, in any climate zone. Wind and solar, would be fine, but like the hydroelectric options.

Love the vids, keep up the great work! Do you have a video about the process of purchasing your off grid property? Or would you consider sharing the process? It seems difficult to find info about the process here in BC.
@ThisOffGridLife2 жыл бұрын
This video is about things to consider when looking for a property but we haven't done anything about the buying process. We did owner financing, just by luck, through a lawyer so everyone was feeling comfortable and safe. Otherwise the best bets are to talk to the banks about loans for the land, and keep checking real estate sites, landquest, kijiji and facebook. Some off grid Facebook groups have land for sale postings or you can ask. We found ours by telling everyone we knew or met what we wanted to do and eventually someone knew someone selling kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWXUmoVneJiCZ9U

Have you ever thought of using divining rods to find a spring that you could put a Sandpoint into right down near your home. Means that you are downhill from the mountain you have a good chance of finding a spring right near your house all you need is a couple of copper rods make a grip to hold the rods and walk in a way where your balance is not influencing the rods preferably pointing downhill from how you're standing when you're over potable water they will cross then they will begin to bounce count the bounces until the wires go sideways that'll tell you how many feet keep going around doing that until you find something that you can get a Sandpoint into fairly easy...about the 🐻 I'm assuming grizzlies I'm hoping black bear instead ...grizzlies scare the heck out of me black bears I've dealt with
@Fritz_Schlunder2 жыл бұрын
Is that a good idea? "Water witching" through the use of "divining rods" is clearly not based on science. To the extent that it works or does anything at all, such results would have to be a consequence of supernatural action by an intelligent entity that is presumably watching you and is partially possessing you so as to control your muscles to make the rods cross at the appropriate time. To the extent that such a practice works at all, you end up acquiring useful (to you) information, from the supernatural (intelligent) entity with knowledge of subsurface water locations, by way of possession (or partial possession) of you. The Holy Bible speaks of many supernatural entities, including God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, Satan, demons, angels, and various humans with some degree of supernatural ability. When engaged in the practice of "water witching" using "divining rods", who exactly is helping you? If you engage in "water witching", then you are in essence demanding some supernatural being to come and help you find water, but you do not know who, in anyone, may actually be helping you. Wouldn't it be "safer" to you to simply say a prayer to God, ask for assistance in deciding where to place your well or where to dig, and then go "randomly" select whatever location you feel like digging/attempting to place your well, and then accept whatever consequences follow?
