Right from the start when Marley showed her extremely skeptical personality, I thought to myself "Hmm... Ryan has picked a tough one here." She proved she was tricky as you continued on, so its fantastic that Ryan is so experienced, and has the help of other wonderful professionals. I really think NO-ONE could've done a better job with this particular horse. Well done both of you (Marley wasn't that keen on humans to start with, so to end up trusting them so much is heartwarming)

Ryan, My wife and I went to MM horse shopping for a second Polocrosse horse for myself. We got to the Will Rogers Coliseum halfway through the maneuvers class on Thursday, so it wasn't until the meet and greet that i recognized who you were. We stayed for the whole weekend and wound up taking home Shelley's mare, Cheeky Monkey (kinda crazy how that came to be). She is now our 4th Mustang and my first, personally. Already making big strides together. You and Marely had some great performances, and your many years of experience training horses was evident over several of your competitors (the right horse helps, too, lol). Congratulations on the Reserve Champion finish and a bigger congratulations on Marley's training. You certainly put in the time.

I watched a mustang makeover in Europe and after a few years the organization allowed trainers to "block" their horses from being sold so they can keep them. Before that there've been some tense moments and tears when trainers couldn't afford to buy the mustang they'd trained and bonded with...

I have to admit this was tense for me. It was like watching Mary Kitzmiller and Remi in their mustang competition a few years ago. Not only the competition itself, but feeling like this horse MUST go home with his/her trainer. I got to watch snippets of your classes and Marvelous Marley was so great. I’ve had seasoned domesticated horses not cope as well with an environment like that. You really demonstrated that connection card. I get emotional over how these mustangs can go from feral to this level of competition in weeks. Horses never stop being incredible to me! I’m so glad she’s staying with you. Fabulous job Ryan! You should certainly be very proud of all that you achieved with giving a mustang a wonderful start in life. Something I discovered on my own journey is when doing competition the biggest assistance you can offer a horse is to forget about the competition and really focus not on the horse only on the job/task at hand. Horses are incredibly designed to read our focus and the stronger and more committed we are to that focus (life and death level) the better the horse will perform as their attention will solely be on what the rider is asking and not on the environment. The rider must have sufficient discipline to be consistently clear with their aids in competition as they are are at home. A horse focused on their rider is a great partner and will always be bombproof as environment ceases to matter only the partnership.❤

I had a pretty much bomb-proof trail Appaloosa-QH cross who would jump anything, so I was confident going into a one-day three-day event training show. We did okay in dressage (not really our thing) and I figured we'd nail the cross-country. My horse was fine with jumps that looked like coffins with scarecrows inside, challenging obstacles, etc. But something about the pairs of judges near the jumps just rattled him. At one point he took the bit and we went off course. Couldn't believe it. You never know what a horse will do with something new. (The "stadium jumping" was a tight, tough course on a newly mown patch of pasture. Many horses were slipping or blowing turns. We zipped around with no faults. Arrrgh.)
