Another great video, keep up the good work, as painful as it is, it's always great to see the good, the bad and the ugly! We're just gearing up for our first growing season, pigs and sheep are a few weeks off of going in the freezer, then it's all focused on planting!

My dad taught me this trick when you pick your cabbage don't pull it out ,cut it at the stem and make a cross (with a knife) on the top of the stem this will let some new shoots grow and you can harvest these after a couple of weeks .Its probably better to do it during spring and onwards as i don't think we have a good growing climate in County Durham this time of year.

I use to not blanche my colli flower until 1 year I lost my whole crop in the freezer to green mold (10 big bags) 😭Although I always wash my veggies 2 to 3 times before putting them into the freezer, that year we had a lot of snails in the garden, and I think that just washing them was not enough (not even with salted water). The only thing I still don't blanche are veggies that snails leave alone (like leaks).

Oh gosh that’s so sad to hear. All that effort 😢 we should blanch the pesky snails 😂 best of luck this year

Hi Tracy can you use the seeds off the pumpkins for sowing this year.
@OurSmallholdingAdventure2 сағат бұрын
I would love to but I didn’t isolate the flowers so they will more than likely be cross pollinated, so not this year. Great where possible tho! Thanks for the comment :)

Great vid Trace as always :) bloody rodents ive got terrible trouble with rats digging up into my chicken coup 😡so thinking im going to build a new one on stilts,they are worse this yr im sure.Quick question re pigs im thinking of getting a couple this yr for the freezer how much freezer space does 1 whole pig take? will it fill a chest freezer? Keep up the good work spring will soon be here lol
@OurSmallholdingAdventure3 сағат бұрын
Thank you! Good luck with the stilts. They’re a royal pain! We’re doing a video on the issues we’re having soon. Re the freezer, the chest freezers are 306L capacity and even though ours are split over a couple, I would say you would t get much room left in that size from our 2, so for one maybe a 150L may suffice? Don’t quote me tho x
