My favorite thing to do is to wash whatever dishes are in the sink as making coffee or tea. I also have a pretty small sink and dish rack to dry dishes so anytime I have a spare five minutes in the kitchen taking the time to do that makes it so much easier as there often isn't enough room to wash ALL of the dishes we dirtied during a meal.

I rinse in minimal water with a dish brush, which of course i clean meticulously after, and presoak the cutlery in boiling water twice, but for a kid, you're starting off your dish-washing journey well. Caravan / 'van life' tip: no draining space? drain it in a plastic bowl. You'll have to tip out the water once, but every other method ends up with damp cloth that goes mouldy. Boiling water rinse dries itself. Mould is like moths: once it starts, it never stops.

How do you exactly compost? I live in a small apartment too but I was advised against by a farmer that I shouldn't compost because 1) it'll smell really bad and 2) I don't have a garden big enough to use up the compost anyways. Do you use one of those compost bins with a carbon filter? Do you compost meat? I heard meat and dairy adds the most to smell. Do you get ant problems from it? Love you guys!
@LeahandLevi4 жыл бұрын
worm composting (for most things) is something that I've heard a lot of people do in tiny spaces. But we actually have a compost pickup service which is a part of our municipality. So it's unique to here but a lot of places do this too!
@BDavis-rb6xn4 жыл бұрын
The amount of food waste a household produces (assuming you're not way overbuying) can be composted easily and distributed to house plants fine. We've (2 people) got a tumbling composter that's still only half full after 2 years and not emptying yet. It's enough to completely fill 2-3 12" pots (would not recommend, just trying to quantify), so as long as you've got a decent number of house plants or container garden you should be fine. Actually for home composters that also garden you often can never make enough compost to really satisfy demand. If you some how do produce more compost than you can use, I'm sure family, friends, or neighbors with plants wouldn't say no. Also, I'm afraid I don't remember what it's called, but there's a (Japanese?) method for composting that will help with meat and dairy as well as all the other things.
@SunnySmith994 жыл бұрын
When we lived in an apartment, we kept our compost in the freezer. The freezer worked great because it keeps the smell away. When a few bags were full, I took it to the university that had large compost bins. Check and see if any local places accept compost :)

Really was needing the good vibe from both of you :-) A couple of days ago i watched a Dr. talking about washing your vegetables. He said that it would be sufficient to rinse them with water. Supposedly vegetables absorb some stuff from the soap, and it ends up not being as healthy as one might think! Yeah, a video on pickling would be worth a video :-)
@LeahandLevi4 жыл бұрын
That's good to know! We don't leave them in too long but yeah... good to know!
@FaerieDust4 жыл бұрын
Yep, veggies are porous and can absorb soap which is... Not great 🤷 things with thick peels (oranges, bananas, avocados) should be fine, and honestly as long as you're not letting the produce soak in the soapy water you're probably fine. Maybe don't feet them to small children, though. Your best bet, though, is just cooking everything. Not as fun, fresh fruit and veg is the best, but cooking everything is the most foolproof way to for sure kill pathogens (most, at least, including coronaviruses).

I got some glass IKEA pump glass jars for hand soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and dish soap. So I can buy the huge containers and fill myself instead of smaller containers with pumps (that get gross and are hard for refill due to small neck holes). So there’s that. But now I’m having trouble figuring out which is shampoo, body wash, or conditioner 😅. Sharpied words rubbed off within a week.

Great video! But I expected no less from you 😁 I often found myself browsing through the fridge and finding stuff that has gone off because we didn’t get round to eating it. My husbands work hours can be so long that by the time we come to eat we just go for comfort food and don’t eat what I had planned, hence stuff going to waste. Since we have been at home together every day, I am furloughed and he is working from home, planning is sooooo much easier! So far I have only wasted 1/4 of a bag of salad (it’s the only way to get rocket here and I love it) which got hidden behind a bag of carrots and three potatoes which went icky. That was in the first week and since then we have wasted nothing👍 One thing I have found that uses all sorts of odd bits is tacos 🌮it’s amazing what you can put in them and chilli sauce makes everything delicious 😋 Stay sane and congratulations to Dr Tidey 🥳🥳🥳🥳 I saw the Instagram posts this morning and I’m so happy for her 😁 Stay safe xxx

Hi you should try replacing your chemical cleaners with bio enzymes. You can make cleaning bio enzymes using citrus peels. I would like to see your video on that 😊. It's very eco friendly. @@LeahandLevi My dining table saves me, tbh - extra "counter" space on top, and space for boxes of unopened bags of dried stuff under (that's where my lentils, beans, and rice lives👍). I bought lovely new oven dishes, brought them home... And then gave them to mom because they were too big to go in the oven 🤦😂 at least I'm a single person household! Cooking smaller amounts at a time uses more electricity than I'd like, and I have to wash dishes so frequently that that uses way more water than I'd want, but I make do. Always aware that what I have is a luxury in it's own right. I'll still complain about it, of course, it's annoying AF, but I'm happy to have it nonetheless. But also really grumpy. Ugh.
