Seeing these temples, the existence of Jesus, his miracles, they threatened every power and principality. King of kings, Lord of lords, giver of daily bread, healer, who turns water to wine and raises the dead. Shots fired at all these other gods, on up to the sword of his mouth trumping that of the governor, his rule presiding over emperors, whose generations and power is from everlasting to everlasting. It's no wonder those early Christians were oppressed, and it's no different against the gods today of money, power, and identity politics. To Jesus all the power and glory. His name be great and higher above all.

Awesome series on the 7 Churches, thank-you. I would like to make comment on the staff of Asclepius; the medical symbol we use today. Although historically it is adopted as it being from this origin. There is as you know it a staff in Exodus with similar features the Nehushtan. Maybe you could shed some light as to the true origin of the medical symbol as I have not found anything to be concrete that it is from the Asclepius or the Nehushtan origin.

The medical symbol isn't from pergamum. It's from Exodus and Mosses and the sick being healed when they prayed to the cross with the snakes on it. All being God's mysteries. Even many years before Christ's birth, it was symbolic of his taking upon himself the punishment for original(and all sin) sin (the snakes) when he died on the cross.( the cross and snakes image.

Last week Revelation came up in my readings. Whenever I re-read I always try to look for something different to gain a little more understanding. I decided to really look at what Jesus told those in each church they'd receive if they remained faithful. During the days of studying in those chapters this video series happened to get recommended. It has shed some very interesting historical context that I heretofore lacked. I am truly enjoying this series.

It is amazing to me, that though we face the same obstacles and pitfalls, the trials and tribulations that we face for holding to our faith, the one true faith, it is unlikely that most of us would face being placed inside a copper bull and slowly, painfully being burned alive. How much easier to just say the words that would say our lives in the face of that pressure, yet if we confess the name of Jesus before men, He will confess our name before the Father! Fear not the one who can kill the body rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

It was not only that…..all the temples with all their Goddesses and Gods brought abundant trade and prosperity……the idea that a Jesus is Lord and he was the only way….was a direct threat to all of the Temples merchants and its customers……….there would of been so much pressure to just blend in, vs to take a direct stand for Christ (affecting your livelihood or your very life).

I had watched some Vdos trying to bring out the Patmos story including John's visions, call it Revelation. But I was left wanting, I kept googling until I got u. I thank God am fully satisfied and I don't regret watching it. How I wish many would watch it. God bless and continue to provide for u abundantly, as you minister. That’s interesting series, but I’ve noticed on a few of them there are some pretty flagrant inaccuracies in your reporting one of them was higher Opolis and Colossae as a pretender Laodicea, and then this one about the serpent wrapped around the rod, yes that is the symbol that MEDICINE has adopted, but it was a symbol of healing and that came from Moses and the serpent in the desert, those who had disobeyed God were bitten by the snake and those who wanted healing after having been bitten by the snake had to look at the serpent on the rod that had been lifted up, that was a crystal funny of the resurrection after the crucifixion…. We should always strive for the christologically correct bibliocentric exposition of all Bible information

Some Christians to fit in and not stand out will forsake Jesus’s name and do things which they shouldn’t. I've always understood that the medical symbol of the snakes around the staff dated to when God told Moses in the book of Numbers to make a bronze snake,place it on a pole, and when the Isrealites were bitten they were to gaze upon it and live.

The Snake on a Pole That Moses Was Instructed To Erect To Cure The Snake Bitten Masses.

I taught the snake on the stick was in the desert when the Israelite were lost in the desert that's when Moses told them, if they need healing from getting bit by a snake they should look unto the snake on the stick.

A few months ago I started writing letters to the pastor of the church I've been attending for several years. Mainly about avoiding the harder to swallow passages on the topics of hell, adultery, homosexuality and misrepresenting those who have passed by not calling out their depraved moral state along side their confessed Christianity. For some reason we all want to hear the "good" side of things and negate the sin when people pass, go figure. Nevertheless, our home group leader (an elder in the church) decided a month ago we would start a study in Revelation, of course the seven churches. God's timing is perfect. Who knew that my letters to the church (continue to this day) were to coincide with our study of the seven churches in Revelation. God did. He who has an ear, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the seven churches. Thx for the video.

Wow! This strengthen my faith especially learning more about the persecution the early followers of Christ experienced in Pergamum. I see how easy people including myself fall into wanting to be accepted by society. This encourages me to HANG ON to JESUS! Our true rewards in heaven await us and being with our Lord at His Feast. I can't wait! Thank you Joe for sharing! I have become a subscriber to ODB.
